  1. It's a bit like in the show: Don't bother logic to have good time. It's a childrens movie, don't forget that! I was kind of disappointed to see the princesses that helpless, too. I mean... there should have been around 90 percent of equestrias magic capabilities on that particular spot during the attack. The royal guard not to mention (at least they open the doors and pull the carts). A simple push against the obsidian spheres or a teleportation spell would have been enough to evade Tempest's attacks, at least after Cadence's shield spell failed to hold the spheres of. I do like the ponies to be peacefull, even naive. But they are defintively not helpless. I did like the idea to suspend the princesses in the shown way, that reminded me of sombras dark cristal magic. But the fullscale attack of the 'storm troops' was unlogic to succeed. They also did not say anything about that magic suppressing metal at all (in some fanfic it's existent as some kind of a star metal). I guess Tempest's armor was of the same material so it would have been a fight to repell her. But again: Don't bother logic to have a good time. They needed a desperade situation for the mane6's trip to be neccessary, so they created one. And I'm sure they did not want to push the invasion/war theme too much in a childrens movie. They wanted a movie about friendship. Considering this there's already a lot of violence in this movie. I'm very happy about the movie and I really would like to see more of those. I'd love to see more of the princesses, though. But the mane6 are not called mane6 for nothing, are they? (I still have the episode "Fame and Misfortune" in mind and the critics against some parts of the fandom...) Dusky Flare
  2. Hey. Is the critique exchange still alive? I'd like to improve drawing. I started 6 weeks ago. I do have a Discord group for art improvement, but I would like to expand, if someone's interested. I thought of exchange of critique, but I can accept almost any opinion about my work without gettin' mad. I just started after all... Anybody interested? Dusk EDIT: I take that as a no...
  3. You got a point there. There are many theories, why the cons are less well visited. And you might be right that the fandom is shrinking. We discussed that already. Much different theories there either. But there still is a core and there are new fans (as seen above). I consider myself a brony since roundabout last October. That's less than a year. Maybe it's nothing new... nothing hip anymore. I like to think that. I still think "dying" is the wrong word, at least for the time beeing...
  4. I wouldn't say that. Media are changing. There are huge groups on discord and stuff. Lot of them don't use a forum anymore. Maybe this kind of communication is dying due to more "modern" (faster living) media... I still like this kind of posting here... but compared to most of the others I'm an oldtimer myself...
  5. Nopony who wonders, how Luna came to know "Daybreakers" name in this scene? Maybe she saw Daybreaker befor in the dream realm ?!?! (Might be a nice start for fanfic, don´t you think?)
  6. Makes it convenient for the show (and they ARE indeed the ones who determine the course, I agree). I just can understand that some people (incl. myself) might not be too happy with that. It makes the world inconsistent, or at least unreliable. E.g. if you do fanfic and try to stick with canon you might just get a problem eventually if you use the comics to base on. Anyway... the show is the only thing to rely on. And as far as I remember they stated, that consistency and logic is not first priority making it... (read or heard that somewhere... don't remember where). Maybe I'm just a little bit sad because I liked that particular comic and the idea of the show is just so close to it.
  7. Please keep in mind that the comic is indeed from the time close after Luna Eclipsed. So it seems that the comics are not canon after all, at least not the micro series.
  8. I think neither of you is completely wrong. But you will not solve ethical problems lots of philosophers couldn't solve decently in the last several hundreds of years, will you? And... Wasn't it a cool episode anyway?
  9. The problem is that in history Utilitarism is quite often used to justify cruelties against single persons or minorities ... for the greater good ... you know what I mean... So despite that I'm fine with the basic idea of Utilitarism I really don't like the results coming out of it. For example killing the societal useless for unburden the bigger rest of the society... That might be a rather grave example, but it happened in history, didn't it? So... although there was no disaster in the end, I agree very much, that SGs ways are questionable. For me the moral of this episode concerning SG is more like "Trust your guts. As long as you do something in good intention, it's most unlikely to come out bad in the end"... And that, too, is not always the case.
  10. Isn't that something wonderful about this show? Us all here talking about ethics? Love this fandom....!
  11. What do I think about this episode? Ok, first to say the idea seemed somewhat familiar from the micro series comics (Luna taking place as the days princess. Enjoyed that one very much...). And there are lots of very good arguments in this threat that point out possible flaws of this episode like the ones from Music Chart Fan or Cypherhoof. As far as I can see this episode is the first time the show (NOT the comics) admits that Tia is not perfect after all. As stated above they act downright childish, which is nothing special for sibblings, but should be ... well ... more controlled when it comes to the safety of there whole world or something. They both know where their arguments can lead being the most powerful beings around. They shouldn't need SGs dream to realize that. (By the way ... rising the moon should not be something new to celestia after doing it for 1000 years with Luna as NMM banished...) However, since reading the comics I like Tia to be less perfect (In one of the comics Luna solaces her with "... your just a pony after all..."). And I love Luna to struggle with her pride giving in to her soft and compassionate side, especially when it comes to the centuries old ... rivalry ... with her sister. As stated above I really think Luna comes out stronger in this episode than Tia, although it doesn't matter for the show ... and celestia still is kind of perfect with Daybreaker being just an imagination of SG ... and Luna still having her selfdoubts despite what happened in the tantabus episode ... and Twilight still being mentally creepy ...... If you take it all together the one episode was by far to short for handeling the two sisters and their complex relationship.
  12. I just recently joined the herd myself. To me it's something different: Maybe one day this community will no longer talk about FIM or MLP as it used to. But, keeping in mind what Lauren said in the brony film: Maybe FIM started something. It definitively did in me: I believe this community is about dreaming of a better world: A world of friendship, of rights, of love and peace. During the last years for most of us the name of this world was - and still is - Equestria. But even when this changes in some more or less distant future, these people - you might prefer ponies - will still be dreaming of this better world. The fandom might change or fade, but the community will last. These dreams are what brought us all together in the first place, aren't they? Stay safe, you'll never be alone. EDIT: Not a nativ speaker... please excuse wrong spelling...
