    currently debating if my sona should stay an earth pony or be a unicorn (which i heard is one of the more difficult types of character to write about)

      That could be consideration, but my sona is a freelance photojournalist, so i dont know how that will work.

      Maybe i should stick with earth pony

      Could work out ok. Assuming a photojournalist related cutie mark, generic unicorn abilities (able to telekineticly hold a camera up above head height, write notes with hornwriting) could be supplimented by an ability to (for example) summon balls of diffuse light to correctly light scenes (useful for other purposes of course) or correctly "frame" a shot without having to look though a viewfinder.  That doesn't give the character much additional help, but DOES show what they are "meant" to be, and is a little more than an earth pony could do.

      I recommend starting with the Czech Republic (Czechia, I think it's called now)
      Massively interesting history.
      That or Poland. Less interesting, but still very involved in a lot of major events.
