Best to keep it to just your own room and your own food to start with though - it will still remove some of the load from your mother, and make you seem more mature to her.  Saying things like "is it ok if I do my own room from now on? I feel like I am old enough I should be doing that" should get her approval and co-operation, rather than making her feel pushed away. Ask to help her with cooking, saying you want to learn some recipies and so forth, will go down better (again) than demanding things (and as a side benefit, you can start suggesting that "we do xxx tonight" when she is planning meals, and get more of the foods you like that way :D).

Its amazing how touchy some mothers can be about their children wanting to be more independent - but that said, its also surprising how fast they will start expecting you to do dishes and stuff, so its swings and roundabouts there....
