  1. "We're not here for any sort of job or payment," Virgil denied. "We're here because, for the first time in nearly two hundred years, we received a signal from Equestria. The fact that it was a distress signal only made it that much more urgent." "Our ship's just off the coast by the docks," Syren added. "We can take you someplace else, even to Puerto Seguro if you want."
  2. Syren claimed a table near one of the windows facing towards the harbor, looking out over the town. It was their usual table whenever they came there and as such, most citizens tended to leave it be when The Ruthless Lass was in port. Her captain and first mate might not've had a reputation for being aggressive or territorial, but they were both experienced and skilled fighters; no sane pony would take a chance at getting on their bad side.
  3. "You're the best, Quill," Syren praised. "Two regulars and a hayburger for our friend." "Comin' up. Have 'em to ya in a few," the tender agreed, turning and shouting orders out to those in the kitchen. Virgil eyed Luna disbelievingly but said nothing more as they joined Syren.
  4. "Sure," Arctica agreed, nodding thanks as she stepped out of the hut. She waited on the steps for Red Leaf, curious about his militaristic attitude. Not a lot of the resistance members had it, oddly enough. Most were civilians, still new to the whole fighting experience.
  5. "Everything okay?" Virgil asked as she hesitated. He let the door close as both his companions passed through. While his Captain waited for a response, Syren headed over to the bar, recognizing the tender behind it. "Evening, Quill," he greeted. Quill, a dark blue Earth pony with silver eyes, grinned in greeting as he looked up. "How's it, Syren? Governor a'ready sent a messenger. Room's all set up for your friend. I can get dinner for ya whenever ya're ready."
  6. "Now that's just downright insulting," Syren answered, donning a hurt expression. "We don't 'loot'. We fight for the right to another's property. There's rules and codes to follow. We're not thieves." Virgil remained silent, eyeing the assembled ponies, judging skills and threats.
  7. The stallions led the way through the winding streets, easily finding the inn with the practiced ease of those who had grown up on such confusing streets. Light flickered out the windows onto the street, music streaming through the open windows. A sign hung above the door, depicting a homely farming couple beside a stack of hay. Virgil led the way in, shouldering the door open and holding it there for Syren and Luna to pass through..
  8. "Care to join us, Miss Luna?" Virgil asked as he began leading the way to her inn. "The Haymaker's Wife makes some of the best vegetable stew in all of Puerto Seguro." "And their hayburgers ain't somethin' to sneeze at neither," Syren offered.
  9. Virgil led the way back out of the governor's home, stopping on the street just outside. "You better get home, Alric. I'm sure your wife wants to see you." "Not if she's finally gained her sanity," Alric chuckled, saluting his captain as he headed off to his home. "And what about me?" Syren asked in mock hurt. "Isn't there a sweetheart waiting for me?" "If you finally had a girlfriend, Syr, I'd be the first to know about it," Virgil answered, drawing a grin from his best friend. "True. C'mon then, mate. Maybe we can pick up some dinner before turning in," Syren answered cheerfully.
  10. "I have no idea what any of those words mean," Syren answered honestly as he lowered his gun. "But I do know you're not threats." Beside him, Virgil lowered his cutlass into a resting stance, but Syren knew his friend would be ready to fight in a milisecond. "Who sent out that distress signal?"
  11. "In which case, I bid you goodnight, Miss Luna," Sergio said, dipping in a bow before straightening and turning to his step-son. "I expect a debriefing by tomorrow afternoon, Captain." Virgil saluted, as did his crewmembers, before leading the way out. Eros stayed behind, laying in front of her father's fireplace and waving happily to her brother with a wing.
  12. After the sarcastic answer, they waited a few more moments before entering. Virgil led the way, cutlass in hood. As soon as he was able, Syren stepped to his friend's side, his gun floating in the air and ready to fire. He kept his goggles up, letting the tech scan the area. "Whoever's in the armor, I'd suggest you stop and come back right now," he called out, seeing the heat signature above them. It was a little dimmer because of the armor, but easily detectable with Syren's goggles. "Since you didn't answer before, I'll ask again; who are you?" Virgil demanded, his soft voice still carrying his harsh tone.
  13. "Yep, that's her. You get used to it eventually," Arctica answered before accepting his offer. "Sounds like a plan. What kind of spell are you thinking about? A specific block spell, or just a generalized one?"
  14. "Somepony left out the back," Syren informed him quietly. "They're leaving." Virgil nodded in understanding. After a few minutes of silence passed, Virgil spoke again. "We know you're in there. Who are you and what are you doing here?"
  15. "That's alright," Arctica assured him, smiling. "It took me a while to learn everyone's names, too. I'm horrible with names. You wouldn't happen to know where Trixie is, would you?" If he knew, then she wouldn't have to potentially interpret any of Zecora's riddles.
  16. The pirates stopped outside the building, crouching low to avoid being seen. Syren crouched below his captain, tracking the heat signatures in the room. "Someones coming out," he murmured, just loud enough for Virgil to hear him. "Better make this quick," Virgil answered in the same tone before picking up his volume to carry to those inside. "Identify yourselves."
  17. I'm cool with the power armor, and I also agree with Cerberus on the player control thing
  18. "I'd be interested to see these wings in action. They certainly sound amazing," Sergio replied. "There are plenty of blacksmiths and engineers in the town who can help you with your repairs. Virgil can help you get in touch with them. In the meantime, I've sent a messenger ahead to one of our more 'upstanding' inns. They have a room waiting and dinner if you're interested. Virgil can take you."
  19. "And I you, Miss Eclipse," Sergio returned. "I'm also told you were headed for Equestria. I can set you up with a crew headed that way." "We've already offered our ship," Virgil informed him, "but she wants to try fixing up her mechanical wings and fly there on her own power." Sergio's brow furrowed in a mixture of concern and skepticism. "A commendable feat I'm sure, but also highly unlikely. Equestria lies well over five thousand miles to the northeast of us. It's impossible for even the most experienced of flyers."
  20. The two separated, turning to face the others. The three crewmembers saluted and Sergio returned the gesture before turning his attention to Luna. "Hello, my name is Sergio," he greeted. "I'm told Captain Virgil rescued you from a shipwreck."
  21. -Assuming Zecora and Red Leaf are in her hut "Zecora, have you seen Trixie?" Arctica asked as she entered the zebra's hut. "I'm supposed to meet with her for a patrol." She noticed Red Leaf for the first time and twitched her ears in embarrassment for not seeing him sooner. "Hey, Red Leaf."
  22. Virgil led the way into the office, Eros slipping past him and bounding over to her father. "Virgil's home!" she happily announced, leaping for her father. Sergio chuckled as he caught her mid air, ruffling her hair as he set her back down. "I know, Eros." He moved to greet them, meeting step-son with a hug which the earth pony affectionately returned. "It's good to see you back in port, son."
  23. Virgil and Syren made their way through the abandoned city, having found a less steep part of the cliff which they could climb. For the two pirates, it had been a depressing experience seeing how far the ocean level had fallen. Of course, Puerto Seguro was no where near as effected, though the docks back home had to be renovated multiple times over the years to adjust to the drops. The only sounds around them were the wind whistling through the streets and their hooves clopping on the cracked pavement. It set Virgil's nerves on edge; he hated silence. Back home, there was always the sound of the waves, even up in the Governor's house, and the voices of hundreds or thousands of ponies, even late at night. Puerto Seguro never slept and Virgil loved it. His ship was never quiet either. There was always the creaking of the ropes and the sails, the sound of the waves hitting the hull, the voices of his crew, and the wind whistling over the water. Even when there was no wind, it was never truly quiet. The city of Manehatten wasn't necessarily quiet, but it had sounds that Virgil wasn't used to, that he didn't always know the origin of. There could be threats out there, and he mightn't be able to tell until it was too late because he didn't know their telltale sounds. He was relying entirely on Syren. Even if he trusted his friend without question, he wasn't infallible. "Building on our right, four down," Syren's voice broke into his captain's thoughts. "I'm getting four heat signatures." "Armed?" "Hard to tell, but I'd assume so. They'd have to be idiots to be here unarmed." "Or capable without." Syren dipped his head in consent, drawing his gun with his magic and following Virgil towards the building, both stepping carefully to avoid making noise.
  24. I like the idea of her being in the resistance. Those are the ones originating from the AU, right?
