Do private security officers have the right to detain people? I literally got in trouble with the security guard at Wal-Mart because I took a picture of a nice looking car in the parking lot. He kept telling me that I couldn't go anywhere and that "I was detained until the police arrived". Needless to say, I told him to get a life (I was a lot ruder than that lol) and I just walked out.
