We're back for Season 2 baby!!
Season 2 is my personal favourite, so I was very excited to cover my favourite episodes. There are so many incredible ones here, so it did take a while for me to settle on my top 5. I am pretty happy with my final list though.
    Let's begin!

    5. A Friend in Deed

Fittingly enough, this episode always brings a smile to my face.
I honestly don't have much to say about this one. The episode itself is really adorable. Pinkie is super wholesome here and I can't help but enjoy that. The whole story comes together nicely and is just really rewarding to watch unfold. Cranky reuniting with Matilda is also a very underrated moment.
Of course, everyone praises "The Smile Song" and I'm no exception. It's one of my favourite songs from the entire show. It captures everything I love about FiM and is very nostalgic for me.
This is a very comforting episode overall. It makes for a nice watch on a rough day. :3

    4. A Canterlot Wedding (Parts 1 & 2)

Be honest. You knew this would be somewhere on here. A Canterlot Wedding still stands as one of the strongest season finales IMO.
I loved watching everything unfold. This has to be most dramatic episode at this point in the show and I think it really works. I feel that the second half is slightly stronger than the first, but that also is where all the action happens. I think the first half being dedicated to Twi snooping around is an interesting way of building up drama and suspense.
Chrysalis is a really neat villain. She fooled everyone AND took down Celestia! That's absolutely nothing to scoff at!
These episodes also excel in the music department. "This Day Aria" of course is the standout piece, but I loved all the songs here.
Of course, the wedding at the end was lovely as well. :3

    3. Lesson Zero

Why yes, I also love watching Twilight Sparkle freak out for twenty minutes.
The story here is quite simple. Twilight's problem is quite simple. But, it's just one of those things that is really fun to watch unfold and spiral out of control.
The humour is great here. There are so many great scenes here, but I think my favourite has to be when Twilight tries getting the CMCs to fight over Smarty Pants. Also, Spike gloating about he didn't need to learn anything will never not be funny.
Another thing is that I could really personally connect to this episode. As someone with OCD, Twilight's struggle hit close to home for me. I appreciate this episode a lot more because of that. :3

    2. The Last Roundup

There are no dull moments in this one. It's another episode that I enjoy simply because of how funny it is.
The quest to bring AJ home was cute. The Mane 5 progressing from Ponyville all the way to Dodge Junction made it feel like a comfy little adventure. I think Dodge Junction itself is a neat change of scenery. The scenes set in the factory and the cherry orchard were a nice way of not letting the desert get too repetitive.
I really liked Applejack's portrayal here. Her struggle was very in character and I thought it was a pretty interesting angle overall.
The chase sequence thorough the desert was definitely my favourite part of the episode. It was fun to watch, plus seeing the danger of breaking a Pinkie Promise was also quite hilarious.

    1. The Return of Harmony (Parts 1 & 2)

Easily my favourite season premiere from the entire show.
Discord is an awesome villain and steals every single scene he is in. I always loved the fact that he isn't taking over Equestria just because he's evil, but because he's chaotic by nature and wants to turn it upside down. Major credit to John de Lancie for the voice acting.
Having the Mane 6 turn into the anti Mane 6 is genius. It's interesting way of showing us their dynamic, simply by pulling it apart. I always felt that it was a neat way of creating conflict without resorting to tropes.
Discord's antics really allow the visuals to shine. A lot of it is very abstract and colourful, but things like the labyrinth are genuinely unnerving. In general, there's a great balance between seriousness and levity in these episodes and I think it works amazingly well. :3

And that's it for Season 2! Hope you enjoyed reading!
I'll see you for the next one!

    Thoughts
    Bet you didn't expect this.
So, what exactly is this all about?
I'm glad you asked! It's really quite simple. I'm going to go through each season of Friendship is Magic and rank my favourite episodes. I originally planned for this to be just one blog, where I'd pick my definite favourite from each season. Upon review, there are a lot of episodes that I really like and I feel that I wouldn't be content with picking one to represent an entire season. So, this format will have to suffice. For the sake of not making these overly long, I'm going to limit these to my top 5 per season.
Naturally, we shall be starting at the very beginning - Season 1. This is where a lot of us began our journey, myself included. So, this will certainly be quite the nostalgic trip. I will note that I have re-watched all of these episodes within the last two weeks, so they are still very fresh in my head.
Now that's out of the way, let's begin. Be sure to get comfy as we dive back into where it all started.

    5. Sonic Rainboom

I'll make a confession. I wasn't really much of a Rainbow Dash fan until this episode.
I think RD's characterisation is handled perfectly here. You still have her cockiness and coolness at the start, but exploring her insecurity adds a lot more depth to her character and makes the climax all the more satisfying. RD finally pulling off the sonic rainboom is honestly one of my favourite moments in the entire season. Even the less focused parts like the tour of Cloudsdale and the weather factory is enjoyable and always something that I look forward to seeing upon re-watch.
Not much else to say here. Just a great episode overall.

    4. Look Before You Sleep

I like watching this on rainy days. :3
I felt that the characterisation for AJ and Rarity was handled very well here. While their conflict was simple as a narrative, I felt that it offered a great perspective to their characters. I think they have the most interesting dynamic in the entire show, so I'm glad this episode did it justice.
I also loved the whole idea of them being trapped in a slumber party together. It was really cute and I felt that it was a neat way of blending humour with a more serious issue. Also, Twilight's eagerness for the slumber party was plain adorable.
Not much else to say here. Just a great episode overall.

    3. Winter Wrap Up

Yeah, not really a shocking pick.
I think the progression of Twilight's journey is pretty good. Stripping her of magic added a more human element to the episode and made it more relatable. There are tons of subtle details and I find myself loving this episode more every time I re-watch it.
I always found the premise itself quite interesting and it always seemed cool that wrapping up winter was a collective effort. Once again, it makes it feel like a larger world and that's always awesome. Of course, I have to mention Winter Wrap Up (the song). Really catchy and like the episode, is a classic.
This is one of my comfort episodes. Very cozy and always wonderful to sit down and watch.

    2. Party of One

So, I really like that this episodes taps more into Pinkie Pie's emotions. In other episodes, we generally see her bounce back quite quickly, but not so much here. Like RD, this episode has boosted my appreciation for Pinkie as a character. I think it delivers a great message that anyone can have really negative moments, including those who seem the most positive or energetic.
My favourite scene has to be when the ponies are trying to keep Pinkie out of the barn. You know, complete with the totally accurate construction noises. Always manages to get a laugh out of me.
Speaking of which, I think this episode excels at quieter aspects like humour and pacing. All the jokes were pretty on point and I never feel the run time. Makes it an absolute joy to re-watch. Super engaging as a whole and possibly my favourite Pinkie episode from the entire show.

    1. The Best Night Ever

This is the only season that ends with a slice of life episode and I love it for that reason.
This episode is still satisfying to watch, even without a direct threat or any stakes. The gala itself has been built up to for the entire season, so having it as the final focus is a really strong payoff. I think trying to tie into Ticket Master by giving each of the Mane 6 their own little plot line is quite cute.
While not talked about as much, the first third of the episode leading up to the gala is also great. "At the Gala" has really grown on me over the years and I think it's one of the more underrated songs. This episode is a funny perspective on the fact that things don't always turn out the way you think. Definitely one of my favourites of all time.

That's it for Season 1! I'll catch you next time!

Hi, how are you? Please, pull a chair, sit down with me and let's have a chat.
So this was originally going to be posted back in March, but I scrapped the whole thing because I didn't jive with it. I tried having a structure, but that didn't work, so I'm going with I'm good at. That's just typing whatever comes to my head. I know like two people will read this, but if you do, I appreciate it.
We have finally returned to form. We are back in business at last. I figured I may as well finally blow off the dust on this blog and maybe try having a serious discussion.
So, first thing. I just noticed that I've almost been on this forum for five and a half years. Like, wow. I know that's probably nothing compared to some other users on here, but I honestly still can't believe I can be considered an older member. Anyways, from the title, I imagine you're confused. How could've I returned when I was already here?
So I guess I'll start by saying that I was barely here last year. Yeah, I still appeared every now and then and posted in random threads, but in terms of being apart of the community itself, not really. It's kind of been like that for a few years now. Not because of any disdain towards the forum, but rather me setting out and striving to conquer my own mental health issues and needing to grow as an individual. Both are things that I can confidently say that I succeeded in, but the fact is, I still didn't have much of a presence here anymore. Around March, I came to the realisation that I did really miss this place. Perhaps I was feeling nostalgic for those days where I'd spend hours in the WPCC lounge, (Remember that?!) or having my notification box being spammed by Tacodidra every five minutes, but I did genuinely miss it. I've tried Discord servers and other social outlets online, but truthfully, they never felt as homely or as connected as MLP Forums. Forums are definitely an older relic of the Internet in current year, but there was this charm that nothing else could really replicate.
I eventually decided to put on my big boy pants and came back with the clear goal to try and weasel my way back into this community. It was daunting at first. The community has changed significantly since my prime in 2018. So much smaller in size and so many new faces at the same time. I felt the exact same way I did when I made my first thread in the Welcome Plaza years ago. Regardless, I didn't back down and after a month and a half, I can happily say that I feel like I'm truly back. Sharing art in the fanclubs again, having a laugh in the forums games, openly making fun of the people who can remove me in less than a minute. It's been remarkable and it brings me so much joy to know that even after all these years, this forum is still as welcoming and as wonderful as it always was. Because of that I'm planning to stick around long-term, so better get used to my face.
So yeah, that's really it. On the subject of ponies, since that's the name of the game, I haven't seen much of G5 other than the movie. I've been re-watching Friendship is Magic since before I came back, so once I've seen the first couple of seasons, I'll tackle the new stuff and finally be able to contribute. Moving forward I also might try and do more with this blog. I could talk about Pony related stuff, or maybe anime and other shows. I still don't know at this point. I never really had any direction with this blog and I still don't. I guess some things never change, huh.
Old friends, it's been great meeting you again. To the newer ponies, it's good to meet you and hope we can share some wonderful experiences on here. Catch you around!

It's no secret that My Little Pony is a big franchise and naturally something that large in scope would spurt out all sorts of media. Whenever I hear about things that fans have wanted with FiM, I always hear of a full blown video game on actual consoles. When you think of a video game based off MLP,  you'll probably immediately think of that Gameloft app on mobile. But believe it or not the older generations of MLP actually had their own video games.
My Little Pony - Crystal Princess: The Runaway Rainbow on the Game Boy Advance. A game from Generation 3 of MLP.

The Runaway Rainbow was published by THQ. Yes, the company that published Saints Row 1 to 3 were involved with this. The game itself is based off the film with the same name. So yes, this is technically a movie game. Most games based on movies have a stigma of not being very good. Does The Runaway Rainbow break that tradition? Does it challenge the stigma? Is it an outlier?
    No.
I'll be honest, this game isn't very good, but the novelty of it being an MLP game is something special in it's own right and I think it deserves to be looked at.

Chances are that you haven't seen the film or played the game, so I'll break down the plot for you. There's a city known as Unicornia (Essentially the G3 equivalent of Canterlot). A young unicorn named Rarity is learning about being a Rainbow Princess, since she has the sole responsibility of creating the first rainbow of the season. Rarity ends up goofing off and accidentally transports herself far away to far away. This is a problem, as with Rarity gone, there won't be anypony to perform the ceremony and that means no more rainbows. Rarity finds herself at Breezie Blossom, home of the Breezies. They take Rarity to Ponyville, where she meets Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Spike and others and they go on a journey to bring her home while racing against time.

The game has five chapters. You start the game in Unicornia, but you soon travel to the peaceful Breezie Blossom, Ponyville, a mountain and even go camping. The graphics and sprites look pretty solid, considering that this game was released towards the end of the life of the GBA. The characters definitely look like they're from the source material and the scenery is pleasant to look at. Not really much I can talk about regarding the control, because for the most part, minigames are the only thing that's really involved. They control fine, anyone can pick up and play.
Speaking of which, you'll spend most of your time doing fetch quests and playing minigames. Admittedly, some of the minigames are pretty fun. One of my favourites is one where you have to make an ice cream sundae, but the problem is that they aren't really fleshed out enough. Interesting piece of trivia: The telescope minigame in the Gameloft app was originally from this game.

The game itself is pretty short, so you could easily finish it in less than two hours. I think the developers realised this, because the game doesn't even have a save system, but rather relies on passwords. Considering the time that this game came out, that was surprising, as save files had been basically normalised in games at that point.
Considering the demographic and especially because bronies were an even bigger rarity back then (Haha), this game was purely marketed towards very young girls. The game is genuinely one of the easiest I've ever played, to the point where you really can't lose. Even if you mess up the minigames, there is no major penalty or repercussions. I can't really blame the game for that considering who it's aimed at. The developers probably wanted children to have an easy-going and comfortable experience over a challenging one. I wouldn't really associate a My Little Pony with a game that is as hard as nails, especially at a time where an adult fanbase barely existed and had no real presence in the marketing.

One thing I can definitely compliment the game for is the soundtrack. Considering how obscure this game was, the soundtrack is relatively unknown. It's actually some seriously good stuff and I recommend you give it a listen. I'd personally tell you to listen to the GBA soundtrack. The PC version has most of the same songs, but I think the only track that beats the GBA version is Ponyville. Just personal preference, I suppose. Here's my two favourite tracks:

Oh and yes, I said "PC version." Interestingly enough, The Runaway Rainbow got a PC release. It was more or less the same game and followed the same structure and story, except for the fact that it had 3D models and full blown voice acting. The models and style of the game definitely screams mid 2000s. Like most games of this nature, it was a simple point & click game. I'm pretty sure this version was far more obscure than the GBA one, because I had to spend an hour looking for footage for it.

                              PC Version
The game came out on September 13 2006, one day after the film, so it's safe to say that they were being made at the same time. What really shocked me was the fact that they released it for the GBA. The DS was already out and had two models and even the Wii was almost out, so I don't know why they opted to release it for an older system.  But guess what? They actually ended up releasing a game for the DS in 2008, called Pinkie Pie's Party. Unlike the GBA one, this wasn't based on a film and was its own thing. I can't really give you much of an opinion, since the only experience I have with the game was glancing at the cover back in 2010 and watching some footage on YouTube.
But the real kicker was that there were more games before this. Generation 3 had another PC game in 2004 and even Generation 2 had one all the way back in 1998. Like Pinkie Pie's Party, I haven't played any of them, but they are point & click games. They're products of their time of course, but I think the idea behind them is interesting.

                                 1998 Game
I'm actually kind of surprised that they never made a full blown game for FiM. I guess because the show got so popular, they didn't want to taint it with a licensed game. Then again, keeping that popularity in mind, making a game would pretty much be a sure-fire way of printing money.
With that said, The Runaway Rainbow is definitely the most accessible. A baked potato of a PC can run a GBA emulator these days, so you could very well experience it for yourself if you have an hour or two to kill. It's also the most well known out of all the games mentioned here, but I mostly used that as an excuse to just talk about MLP games in general, as I feel that it's an interesting, yet very underlooked topic.
So now I'll leave you with something to take away from this. What would you want from an MLP game?

It's no secret that My Little Pony is a big franchise and naturally something that large in scope would spurt out all sorts of media. Whenever I hear about things that fans have wanted with FiM, I always hear of a full blown video game on actual consoles. I have no idea what fans are talking about because one already exists and nobody talks about it for some reason.
This is My Little Pony Chronicles - The Dark Keyhood, 3/3 Days.

Yeah, there was a Gen 4 video game! I don't know how you missed it, but it's real. It was released on PC and Nintendo Switch on April 1 2022. The Switch version had a limited release of five minutes, where after the fact, every copy of the game blew up simultaneously.
The game was developed by Stellar Stone. Yes, the Stellar Stone that made Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing made this game. These guys have two masterpieces under their belt and really I'm looking forward to their next game. Hope they're around for years to come.

Firstly, the graphics are phenomenal. I swear, it's near realistic. You do need a rig from the year 2077 to run the game on medium settings at the very least, but it's totally worth the upgrade.
The game stars Spike the Dragon. Originally, Twilight was supposed to be the main character, but fans complained that her wings were too big, so the developers took her out of the game completely. She's nowhere to be seen, so I assume she's on vacation or something.
The game takes the form of a turn-based RPG. You move Spike and his pals through various locations from Equestria, fighting battles and piecing together information. Your aim is to interrogate as many ponies as possible, in order find information relating to your goals. But in order to interrogate a pony, you have to defeat them in a battle. Sort of reminds me of Dick Tracy on NES, another high quality game.
The fighting mechanics are very streamlined. You can only attack enemies and nothing else. There aren't any healing items in the game. The only way to heal your characters is to find a hospital and get Nurse Redheart to heal you. The only drawback is that you have to wait for about five hours before being seen and the bill is roughly about ten times more than what you have.
There is no fast travel in between locations. You have to walk through each location in real time. I love the realism here, since it just makes you feel like you're in the game. If you walk for eight continuous hours, you get a point. You can exchange points for items at the market. An apple costs 1000 points, so you do need to invest a little bit of time to get the right amount, but it's so satisfying. The best method of getting points would be going to the Appleloosa desert and walking around for about 11 months.

A significant part of the game are the gyms. Clearing a gym gets you one of eight gym badges and you need them all to complete the game. When you get to a gym, you need to work out as hard as possible. The last one is definitely the most difficult, since you have to bench press 2000 pounds. As a bonus, Spike gets buffer and buffer, which alone is worth the effort. I'd say that the gyms are definitely the toughest parts of the game, but I'm sure that some fans will disagree with me on that.

Dante from the Devil May Cry series does make a a brief cameo in this game, but it's actually the Dante from the DmC reboot. I applaud the developers for such a stunning subversion of expectations. Sure, it did give the game an M rating, but some sacrifices have to be made in order to please the fans.

The plot of the game is pretty basic and is told through cutscenes. Spike is sleeping at the castle and suddenly burps out a scroll from Princess Celestia at the middle of night. Celestia tells Spike that she lost the keys to her castle and only he can find them. Spike only has 78 hours to find Celestia's keys, otherwise the moon will crash into Equestria, destroying it. Spike goes to the Mane Five for help, but they're busy playing an intense card game and can't help for the next 78 hours. Luckily for Spike, Prince Blueblood is conveniently in town and decides to help Spike out of the kindness of his heart. An extremely accurate portrayal of his character.
Our two heroes catch a train and head for Appleloosa, because an anonymous pony tipped them off, informing them that Celestia's keys are possession of Braeburn for some reason. On the train ride, the dynamic duo have a deep conversion about the meaning of life and Blueblood reveals that he's Spike's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate. Spike is taken aback and takes some time to compose himself. Clearly a defining moment for his character and some beautiful development. Spike convinces himself that he has to go on and the two meet Braeburn. Braeburn reveals that he never had the keys and in a major plot twist, it's revealed that Discord was the anonymous tipper and was messing with them. Why? I don't know. Braeburn confesses that he feels out of place in Appleloosa and wants to go back with Spike and Blueblood to help them on their quest and to start a new life.
The three head back to Ponyville, where Braeburn starts his life anew. He goes to school, graduates and gets a cozy house by the lake. He then starts a small company and forms a business deal with Filthy Rich, but not before learning that Filthy bought Celestia's keys from a black market in Manehattan. Filthy invites Braeburn on a cruise, which he accepts. Braeburn reveals his discovery to Spike and Blueblood, who are watching the Mane Five play cards, since they're too stingy to let them play. The trio then plan to sneak their way on to the cruise, but then come to the stunning realisation that they're completely broke and their clothes aren't posh enough to fit in. Suddenly Diamond Tiara steps in and gets them the most expensive items on the market. Her motives are revealed to be wanting to get back at her father, since he didn't get her a yacht for her last birthday. Truly some extremely relatable motives and something that I'm sure all of us can connect to. Diamond Tiara decides to join our gang of heroes, because all the shops are closed and she has nothing better to do on a Saturday evening.
The group gets on to the cruise ship and snoops around. While most of the gang look for Filthy Rich, Prince Blueblood checks out the buffet and gets food poisoning. Probably the doing of a fan, but luckily he survives after Nurse Redheart hijacks the ship and heals him. Spike sees Filthy Rich at the bathroom and tries to swipe the keys from his pocket, but Filthy catches him in the act and a fight ensues. Spike eventually reigns victorious and just when you think you've won, everything fades and suddenly Spike, Diamond Tiara and a passed out Prince Blueblood are on the surface of the moon.
Braeburn decends opposite Spike and reveals himself as the true mastermind behind everything. He was the one who stole Celestia's keys  The whole "coming back with you to start a new life" was a ruse. A way of getting close to Spike and his friends. Braeburn's tragic backstory is finally revealed, where we learn that he lost a bet to Applejack two weeks ago and out of revenge, he plans to destroy Ponyville. Quite possibly the most poetic and beautifully crafted betrayal in all of media. Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars? Lisa and Mark from The Room? Mere child's play compared to this. After beating Braeburn in the  final boss fight, his power levels are severed, transporting your entire party conveniently back to Canterlot. The gang meets princess Celestia and gives her the keys. She thanks Spike and gives him a badge of honour, before offering him to become Equestria's next Princess. Spike kindly declines, realising that the true prize was meeting his new friends. We, the players, then see the credits, where we see all the friends we made along the way. The game then ends on this beautiful screen.

    We're winner indeed.

Overall, this game is just so amazing. Gorgeous graphics, intuitive mechanics and a plot that would rival any story on Fimfiction. My favourite part of the game is when you meet Owlicious and he says "Who" about twenty times. It's hilarious and only true fans will understand how funny it is. My Little Pony Chronicles - The Dark Keyhood, 3/3 Days is a game worth buying.
Now why exactly was the moon going to crash?
Well you can find out in the latest issue of "Spike and Friends." Only $99.99!

For those who don't know me, I play a ton of video games. I have since a very young age.
When I go out, I usually take my DS with me and what not. Although, I feel as soon as I start to get into a game, something happens and it completely breaks my focus and I stop playing. It's freaking annoying as all hell.
I don't mean to transform this into a rant by any means.
I suppose I shouldn't be too mad. Besides, it would probably be smart to switch priorities. I have a Networking assignment due in less than a month and I'm not even 10% done. Knowing me, I'll wait until the last minute and then do it.
I don't know what it is? Every time I have class, I find myself staring at the monitor for 70 minutes and then it's over.
I think I just need a good way to balance playing games and doing school work. I just can never find one, because once I do something, it's a pain in the ass to get into something else. It took me 7 months to beat the new Layton game, because I've been very focused on classwork.
    Bah!

Attention ponies of MLP Forums. It is my duty to inform you that I, Discord, spirit of chaos and devilishly good looking Draconequus, will be taking over Cash In's account. If you have any issues with this, please speak to my secretary, the Smooze. He will be happy to oblige (provided that you don't wear anything shiny).
*tosses scroll away* Now that the unnecessary formalities are over with, it is my pleasure to announce that I have created an Ask Thread. Yes, a thread where you can ask me, about how great I am. Isn't that amazing? Oh the benefits of modern technology.

Also, if you require chocolate rain, just say the word.

Okay, so I know that I literally posted an entry not too long ago. I just need a bit of a vent.
So I was planning to go to sleep early for once, 10:30pm to be precise. I don't know what happened, but it is now 4:45 am. Wanna know how much sleep I got?
    20 minutes.
At this point I just decided to get up for the day (Not like I was ever really asleep in the first place). Now I'm in the living room, listening to my computer fan, with the blinds open. At least this way I can see the sun rise.
I have my 3DS with me, so I guess I can play some Link's Awakening DX for a while. Hopefully my mum doesn't wake up.

    I couldn't think of a creative title.
I woke up pretty late this morning (11ish) and I was in a pretty good mood. I do my usual routine, (shave, get dressed, eat breakfast) and I turn on my laptop so I can have some sweet sweet gaming time. I have the entire day to myself, so I want to make the most of it. So I turn my laptop on, it shows the splash screen and then it throws an error. At this point I'm pretty confused, so I turn it off and on about three times until I realise, the hard drive crashed. I checked the warranty and it's eligible for 12 months. I did the math and I'm 18 days ineligible. Thanks, I needed that.
Luckily, I bought another computer back in October. Tomorrow I'm going to see my grandparents, so while I'm there I'll pick up a monitor and keyboard from their house. They've had them since 2005 and they don't use it, so at least I'll be able to put it to some use.
My purple headset may also crap out soon. The audio seems to be heavily decreasing in quality, but then again I've had them since 2014.
And last Friday, my watch fried out because I got too much water in it.
Jesus, how much stuff do I need to replace?
Also, school starts in over 2 weeks, so I'll have to start going to bed early and waking up early. Hooray.
Well, I guess I better go back to playing Turtles in Time.
