@Widdershins Well, that seems a bit more coherent and easily understandable compared to how I put it. I do think she does have a lot more depth to her character than people may think. Also, some writers for certain episodes seem to get the wrong impression of how she is supposed to be written, and they get her all wrong. When one understands her character and writes her well, she is a very interesting character indeed. I believe that above all, however, despite these things that she seems to struggle with, she stays loyal to her friends, and no matter how much she messes up, her heart is in the right place, and that is what matters most.

That's somewhat my headcannon: That her parents were the wrong kind of positive & supportive. She never had to try hard to gain their gushing approval... so she's not sure of how to stop being competitive & Number One in everything she does. Everythings a race to Dash because it was for most of her life, to her parents, she never dipped below top ranking and now that she's on her own with nobody pouring on excessive praise like her parents did... she's over compensating for the blow in her confidence.

 The girl sneaks out side her fanclub to easedrop on conversations. A club put together from a filly who probably wouldn't have had the idea without urging from Dash herself. If that ain't desperate pleas to feed her own ego, I don' know what is!

I saw how she hyperventilated into a freakout on that big show where she had to do the Double Rainboom on cue. If she had as much to back up her talk as she says (and she does at least fill out a great deal. I don't see many mares willing to kick a full grown dragon in the face!) she wouldn't overreact as much as she does. Only mare that cracks emotions faster is Pinkie, and that's likely because its her running gag!

She's born of constant competition, and that ain't no way to live in my opinion. Think that's her character study and a hard path to write for her character. I'm not surprised she's been flanderized, just at the cartoonish extents it has been.

 I'd say she breaks up more than even Twilight; that's saying something! You don't see Twilight jumping to the conclusion that the only way is to personally wreck an entire factory!
