Not necessarily. Skills such as mixing and mastering can take years to properly learn. Music done entirely by someone on their laptop will not have the quality of a track that was mixed/mastered by a professional with studio equipment, trained ears, and monitors.

Porter Robinson had produced and mixed every single song on his EP "Spitfire" via simple $100 logitech speakers and a laptop. No hardware other than that, really. Naturally, his songs got sent to the label's engineers to master them, but mastering is not necessarily the most important part of the songwriting process.

An example of his work can be found here :

From this video here, you can see Rusko's studio in 2008 and a bit later.

(Keep in mind this is classic Dubstep, long before the rise of "Brostep" within the trends.)

  2. I can kinda agree that some brony music is quite lackluster, and you are right that some bronies will accept anything mlp-related, I just wish they could look more critically into these kinda things and realize it's not that good.

    That is true.

The problem is that people believe that fanmusic cannot reach the same quality as a professional product when that's simply not the reality anymore. Anyone with a laptop and a decent pair of cans can make good, professional-sounding music.

  3. tl;dr with 60% less salty exaggerations and jokes since you deleted my other post: there is a difference between hyper-positivity, constructive criticism (looking at all aspects of a work), and downright attacking, and it sounds like you focus heavily on the final of those.

My last post was the latter. Perhaps a bit too much soooo.

Nah, I don't attack work. I just point out all the stuff I notice. I never say that anyone's stuff is garbage or anything of the sorts. That would be barbaric and rude. I didn't delete your earlier post, by the way.

You don't need to know the entirety of Music theroy to produce a good track. It comes with trial and error and scraping a lot of work.

You don't need to know Music Theory but it's probably best to understand the idea of what atonality is. Atonal sounds are really difficult to work with and when they're so offkey like that it gives off more of a sp00ky-scary vibe than what the person is trying to attempt.
