  1. Light pollution is a fascinating, yet very complex subject. There's way more to understanding it than simply pointing a meter toward the sky. Even under dark skies with little man-made light pollution, natural sources such as airglow, zodiacal light, gegenschein, and auroras can drastically affect sky brightness. Even the Milky Way itself brightens the night sky when overhead.  :ooh:

      Not to mention the Moon itself. I once went on an star-gazing tour at Mauna Kea, Hawaii. But because it was full moon that night, we couldn't see some of the constellations.

      @ChB, Yep, Luna's butt is quite bright. It makes even the darkest sites have city skies.  :orly:
