  1. Does anypony have any member title name ideas/suggestions for me? I’m thinking about becoming a Subscriber...but have been racking my brain for the past 2 hours or so trying to figure out a good member title name that’d work for me...any thoughts? :laugh:

  2. These are really pretty in UV. :squee:

    Can anypony identify these? I am no expert on flowers.

  3. Sorry if I haven't been able to respond or interact much lately. I've been having a rough few days and my mood has been all over the place. Apparently my liver isn't functioning properly or something, so now I'm paranoid as all hell.

      @Tacodidra, I find the UV images to be quite fascinating. We cannot see those dark markers on the flowers, without a UV sensitive camera. I wonder if it's some sort of signaling for bees? They can see UV light.  :ooh:

      On the infrared side, nearly all vegetation on the planet strongly reflects Near IR light. Why? Some sort of mechanism to reflect excessive heat from sunlight? :ooh:

      Guess I should find a book on this subject  :twismile:

  5. Good afternoon everypony!:grin:

    Just went to the dentist for a semi-regular checkup, everything is up to code thankfully. I bestowed a Frozen sticker upon myself for being such a good girl, which is pretty great, though I’m not allowed to eat for an hour for some reason, which is not as enjoyable, particularly with the surplus of confectionary treats currently residing in the fridge.:mlp_rarity:

      The old dentist I use to go to as a kid had an ice cream shop next door. You could get your cavities filled, then get new ones right after!  :laugh:

  6. Enjoy a Moon crater pic. The crater's really pop out with a green filter on the eyepiece!  :fluttershy:

    With that said, I must call it a night. Got off work late, and I'm too exhausted to look at Jupiter. Next time. Good night, everypony!  :orly:

      @Rikifive, It's a habit.

      Normally, one wouldn't find it necessary to label ordinary photographs, but when imaging the same subject outside the visible spectrum, it's needed to avoid confusion  :adorkable:

  7. Well, I have successfully replaced the IAC valve in my truck...therefore it runs again! :mlp_yeehaa: Just one problem...the throttle body gasket crumbled to pieces when I touched it...:wacko: So I’ll have to replace that next. But so far, so good. Only other things left to replace/fix are, *inhales*, the tie rods, rear brakes, brake line, suspension/shocks, and then, touch up the chipping paint spots and I’m good to go. :-D

    Any of y’all curious as to how loud that exhaust is? Well...here’s a short vid from today after I put the new IAC valve in...

      Nice work on the truck!  :fluttershy:

      On the exhaust, just toss the old exhaust pipe and run open headers. (I'm kidding)  :laugh:

  9. This forum is still one of the most active forums that I've visited on my time on the internet. Most of the older forums I was active on back in the early 2010's are just dead. :o

      Gosh, I haven't logged on one of the astronomy forums in probably a year. Just not really active there anymore or the gun forums I use to hang around in the mid 2000's :huh:

      This is pretty much the only forum I'm active on these days

  12. The thing that scares me the most is the thought of getting older. I don't like that thought. I kind of wish time would just free but that is not how things work. It just makes me really anxious.

      I hear ya. I've been thinking about life and getting older a bit lately.

      Especially since my 20's will be gone in a few months and start another decade: 30. Where has the time gone?  :sealed:

  17. I think this was a good interview. Still skeptical of UBI tho.

    1. Phosphor

      Phosphor

      Yang hinted at Milton Friedman's "Negative Income Tax" after Shapiro brought up the two ways UBI is presented. Basically, the rest of the welfare state would have to go and have only UBI. Might work and would certainly be less gov't.

      But like you said, it was great for him to talk with Shapiro. I mean, could you imagine a useless politician like Kamala Harris talking to the other side? lol!

      He definitely has some policies I agree with. Surprisingly, he supports tighter border security and restricting illegal immigration. Also, wants to eliminate Daylight Savings Time. Shit, I think he got my vote!  :laugh:

  20. So, it's the end of my semester at school, and even though I'm not going moving out of my apartment, my roommates and I still have to clean it almost as though we were all leaving, meaning I have to put all my stuff on my bed and in my closet, and have all my food bagged and labeled. Then everything else has to be hotel clean. Otherwise, they'll throw out anything we leave out without a label and fine us for it. On top of that, I never got my entire check-out packet for the clean check, and even the staff don't know what happened to it, so I'm not sure how that's going to go. Also, when I took my pony posters off the walls, the "removable" poster putty peeled some of the paint off, so now I assume I'll get some extra charges for that.

    Just needed to vent a bit. I've had a stressful day. :lostit:

      @Duality, maybe :laugh:

      Ah, but she does have a heat signature, since she's above absolute zero.  :-P

      On the technical side: The camera operates in the midwave Infrared region (2 - 5 micron) so reflected and thermal IR can be seen depending on the conditions. I illuminated Twilight with a 65 watt clear incandescent light bulb, so you're seeing reflected infrared light,  With the lamp off, her true heat signature would show (which is room temp) and is visible, since the sensor is cooled to -80°F  :twismile:
