  1. Credit cards can be a good way to establish credit, but fiscal responsibility is a must. Paypal and credit cards are also convenient for online purchases and have protections that debit cards might not have. It's definitely possible to avoid them and use cash only. It's much easier to get a lower price on something with cash, especially at an antiques store or yard sale. Plus, there's a lack of paper trail with cash purchases. Another key benefit to having cash on hand is during a natural disaster. Without electricity, that plastic card is as worthless as the crumbled newspaper in the trashcan.
  2. I think age 4. I remember digging around the kitchen cabinet below the sink where the cleaning stuff was stored. Also remember getting scolded for it.
  3. Dragon, tho I am getting close to the Changeling rank

  5. Looks like I'm in for another week of rain and clouds.  :unamused:

I normally love winter, but I'm getting really tired of this dreary weather.

  7. I ate some beef tips with rice and gravy. It didn't last long enough to snap a photo
  8. I did something similar in 12th grade. Jumped over a big mud puddle and twisted my right ankle. Made a loud grinding noise and hurt like hell
  9. This would be a long list since I don't like to sit for long periods.
  10. Same as @Treeglow Flicker. The top of a ladder is very uncomfortable. Had to stand on one for long periods of time doing antenna installations. Thankfully, I didn't have to get on the roof as I am scared of heights and will get vertigo if I climb too high.
  11. For me, Streets of Rage 1 and 2 and any of the 007 games. I would add Tekken 3, but I lost the disc a long time ago. Need to get another copy.
  12. This is pretty much me. Static electricity has been quite annoying today  :bea:

@Arc Flash, Charging up like a fat electrolytic capacitor  ^_^

@Phosphor Why is that capacitor short-circuited?

I am just browsing through a search on electricity on the forum, and that image really scares me, especially if it is supposed to be an electrolytic capacitor, and there is a wire going directly from + to -!

@Splashee, oh wow, I'm surprised this old post is still around.

A capacitor can be discharged by shorting it out, tho I probably would use a beefy resistor with those fat electrolytics. :muffins:

  13. I really should invest in a AC adapter for my dslr camera. On the night of the lunar eclipse, I noticed how weak my batteries were in the freezing temps.

      @Cash In, looks like they're around $25

@Arc Flash, I have 3 batteries and they're lithium. Guess like most other types of batteries, lithium doesn't like cold temps.

Most of the time they dont care about the cold...hmmm...:o

They're aftermarket batteries. Maybe the quality isn't great.

I don't seem to have much luck with aftermarket lithium batteries. I bought a replacement for one of my laptops and it only lasted a year. Popped the original battery pack into it and still get around 50 minutes. The original battery is 13 years old.  :wau:

  14. Some of my favorite non-animated classic tv shows: Andy Griffith Show Gunsmoke In the Heat of the Night Law & Order (especially the first 4 seasons starring Michael Moriarty) Fresh Prince of Bel Air The Tonight Show with Jay Leno There's a few more but my mind is drawing a blank.

  17. I think my area received about a 1/4" of sleet overnight. Also got a message earlier this morning stating that my work is closed today, so I'm off duty.  :)

    How's everypony doing this morning?

@Mellow Mane, I feel well rested this morning.  ^_^

Clear skies are in the forecast tonight, but with temps dipping into the upper teens (°F), I'm not sure about setting up a telescope. Brrrrr!  :orly:

Good morning, my friend! :D I hope you have a great day! :fluttershy: Mine has been alright so far. :)

  18. 5/10 - I guess average. 8/10 - This is really dependent on the subject tho. I have a nice range of stuff I'm knowledgeable in, but some stuff, I have no clue about. 7/10 - I don't bite. (I'm actually quite friendly)
  19. I love old test equipment

  20. I had a few of those moments when I was struggling in college a few years ago. I put in the extra effort in my core courses and it payed off after graduation with a great career.
  21. I mean, it would be great if we could comfortably survive without sleeping. I could do lots of stargazing and astrophotography. But, we can't and I will feel like absolute garbage the next day if I get less than 6 hours of sleep.
  22. A couple weeks ago, I picked up a vacuum tube tester at one of the antique stores near my work. Got it cheaper than I would have on Ebay and I was needing one too, since I was finishing up 2 radios at the time. (The tube in the pictures tested good) Also bought a capacitance meter, mainly to test new caps to confirm quality. I only test old ones for fun, as I replace them regardless. (The old capacitor in the picture has drifted in value considerably.) I'm hoping to get either an oscilloscope or signal tracer next.
  23. Probably Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City and San Andreas.
