  1. It's been forever since we last chatted.

    How's life treating ya, Kyo?

Life hasn't been great. Mental troubles such as no confidence, a growing nihilistic outlook on life and constant anxiety all feel as though they are draining my will to live. Slowly but surely. Even so, I am still trying my best to at least enjoy things even if I have a doomed future. Mostly been gaming, reading up on different subjects, chatting with my boyfriend, trying to enjoy any and all nice weather. The basic simple joys I always come back to. Not exciting in the least for anyone else to hear about but my life is as basic as it gets. I just wish it was that way for my mental state.

  2. Yeah, I remember the Beetlejuice cartoon from when I was a kid. Don't remember any of the specifics tho
  3. I live way out in the country. Closest McDonald's is like 30 something miles away. There isn't a single traffic light in this county either. The two little towns just have 4-way stop signs.
  4. I use my TV as a computer monitor I don't really watch much TV these days, but I still keep an antenna connected so I can receive local weather and news. (I like the format of local news channels). Internet would be tough to go without. I love youtube a bit too much, plus I enjoy chatting with my online friends.
  5. One. Secretary at my work had it but thankfully she quickly recovered.
  6. Not much. Ate breakfast this morning. Have to mow the grass at some point today
  7. A bit better now. Had a pounding headache and light sensitivity earlier this morning. Not gonna go into the reason why.
  8. There's also a 9 axis political quiz. Has a short and long version. I definitely recommend the long version after taking both. https://9axes.github.io/
  9. Kinda miss the days when I use to be really active on here

You're busy stargazing with Twilight Sparkle. It's understandable that you would be preoccupied. :adorkable:

Never too late to be active. Also, I miss the Sonic CD stuff, like way too much! :kindness::please:

@Sparklefan1234, I wish. Life's been crazy this year. Also lost my granddad a couple months ago and have been thinking about him lately.

      @Splashee®, Heh, I know.  ;)

  10. Jupiter and Saturn.

Calm conditions tonight. Lower humidity too, cuz I didn't have to use the hairdryer on my telescope. lol

      Good, they are still there!

I do see them in the sky, but they are just dots, even zoomed in with my camera, Saturn is a fancy blurry glowy disc

I can just make out Saturn's rings with 10x50 binoculars. Gotta hold em steady tho.

Those images above are at about 480X magnification. Without a tracking mount, a planet or star would quickly exit the field of view.

      Why is Earth rotating? :Cozy:

Yea, hand are shaking too much and too dark to photo without bringing up iso to high, making terrible quality (for me)

I am the cheapest tracking mount

  11. Mars video and images from this morning. Enjoy!

*yawns. I'm going back to bed. :orly:

  12. Besides the Gulf of Mexico, the closest class 1 sky for me would be Big Bend National Park in Texas. I'd like to go there once I settle in at my new place. Much brighter than that and the Milky Way will fade into the skyglow.
  13. I'm with Partialgeek on this one. Lots of bacon and cheese. Oh and that mayonnaise packet goes in the trash where it belongs. Yuck!
  14. Yep. Andromeda galaxy is very easy to see directly. I can also see the Triangulum galaxy here, but it needs to be at a fairly high altitude. The humidity often limits what you can see here in the southeast. Right now, sky transparency is horrible with a mucky haze below 20°. Fall and winter skies are much better.
  15. My new laptop arrived a couple days ago. Got all of the software installed on it to run my telescope cameras and such. Having usb 3.0 ports is such a huge plus when it comes to these cameras.

Heh, now that I think about it, this my first computer with a Core i7. All of my other computers have the older Core 2 duos and Quads.

Sounds like fun. Can’t wait to see the pictures!

  16. I'd love to add a S&W top break revolver to my collection one day. Finding one that hasn't been shot loose is pretty hard, and when ya do find one in good shape, they cost a fortune.
  17. Ah, this topic certainly has my attention. One thing to keep in mind when using the Dark Site Finder LP map is the satellite data and computations are from 2006. A lot has changed since then. I recommend this map which uses satellite data from 2014 or so. https://cires.colorado.edu/Artificial-light With that said, my skies rate at Class 3 Rural Sky (Blue Zone on both maps). Zenith usually measures 21.6 mpsas with my sky quality meter. Clouds at night are as dark as charcoal briquettes, except along the southeast horizon. There's a low light dome about 12.5 degrees above the SE horizon. My meter measures 21.0 when pointed towards it. I can see the dark lane structure and bulge in the Summer Milky Way. Winter Milky Way is also easy to observe. Zodiacal light is quite bright, especially in the fall. Put simply, the night sky here is beautiful and full of stars. I don't know how you city folk can tolerate all those street lights and that orange skyglow.
  18. Thank you for the follow
