I think I'm one of those people who inherently dislikes most others.

I've always found people to be a mixed bag. They're a lot like onions. Many layers and they all seem to make you wanna cry; be they tears of happiness or frustration.

I used to have a misanthropic outlook on people when I was in my teens leading up to the start of my twenties. I had a horrible time at school and was disillusioned when I encountered the same sort of thing once I left. I was expected to be treated like a human being, except I wasn't. I never had things like the internet back then. So I was stuck with those that were in proximity of me in real life.
Kinda all changed when I finally got a computer with an internet connection. It gave me a broader image of people. It was one simple compliment in a chatroom that started to snap me out of my misanthropic state. Struck me directly in the heart like a proverbial rainbow laser. Started to shatter my negative perceptions of people. One simple compliment.
Anyway, I eventually moved away from where I used to live and encountered some good people along the way; both in real life and online. Slowly, I could start to see the good in people again. Still some rotten apples out there. But why let them spoil the rest of the bunch? Or at least that's what I tell myself. Took me a while to reach that point though. But I got there in the end.

I'll share the compliment that helped to defeat my misanthropic self.
"You're cool!"
