  1. Why do we say "pardon my French"? Surely it would make more sense to say "pardon my German", since all words in German sound like swear words anyway. :dash:

      @Sherbie It's the way Finnish sounds that makes it so, especially the r sound is much harsher than the one in English – and it happens to appear in several of our swear words. :D

      There are quite a few good articles about them – I won't link them here (I don't really think it's appropriate), but they're very easy to find!

      they didn't hit for me that much (but then again, the context isn't really translatable out of Finnish I don't think)

      At one point people used French in their everyday English conversation. So people excused themselves when that happened.
