my great aunt gave me her grandson's old MD/genesis when he didn't want it anymore back in the day. I remember that the only games he had for the console were two american football games 

I mean, if all I'd ever played on the MD/genesis were american football games, I'd give it away as well 

I've built a small collection of games since then

We still have the NES and Mega Drive (as well as my newer GameCube and Wii). But the older consoles haven't been played in a decade and a half now.

There was a time when I was really interested in retro games, and I even got a Commodore 64 at that point. My aunt had one that didn't work (as well as some old games), but my father's friend had a working one he gave to me! But that's more of a curiosity, I don't think I played the games more than once or twice.
