Indeed. FiM is canon in the EqG universe; this is obvious because Sunset comes from there (and Sunset IS canon in FiM, even if she only gets a static image in the very last episode), as does Pony Twilight, the Dazzlings, and so forth.

But no trace of EqG was ever shown in FiM, so you are free to believe it isn't canon to FiM if you want to, just like the comics, the chapter books, and other FiM "spin offs"

EqG is the "extended universe".

3rd movie takes place at the same time as the Twilight/Starlight time loop, end of S5

First miniseries (aka "Tales from Canterlot High") takes place at some point in S6.

A more recent special (Spring Breakdown) references the events in the movie.

Also, this looks a bit suspicious....
