There's nothing wrong with making an alicorn OC. Just give him or her different accessories and different mane and tail styles and different colors. Not every alicorn has to have a wavy mane and tail. Heck, you could even make them a bat-pony type alicorn or something if you want them to be even different.

@ExplosionMare unfortunately, Sparkle wasn't the type of mare to even bother fix her mane. It's just natural for a part of her tail to stay in that curl.

I created my own fictional mental disorder.
Mindloose Syndrome
This illness affects a part of the host's brain: the cerebrum. One expert claimed the cerebrum's function will 'flicker' or 'completely stop', causing the victim to loose their intelligence and act like animal. Those who suffer from this syndrome will have this since birth or when they suffer head trauma.

When Guardian Gold is created, she was already been to have an illness. The first version is autism, but I found her behavior a little bit too odd and I don't want to compare her to people with autism, then I thought about Screwloose, a character who acted like an animal, that is how i came up with the idea of making an original illness. This is how Mindloose Disorder was created.
