I am not any expert on Apple stuff. But the speed of your Ethernet matters if you are copying a lot of huge files. I am happy with just 10/100, but my card was fried in the last lightning storm, so I am using a USB Wifi, and wow that takes hours to copy files that took seconds, however it is faster than my internet speed so internet is not affected

Also everything you buy from Apple is expensive, so I guess that is why you are asking? Getting the cheaper option might be okay for Ethernet speed. Are you running Wifi, then I guess you get the max speed no matter what you do (since Wifi has reached its physical limit)
