Yeah, the family issue is one that has been bothering me for a while. She must have left Equestria quite a few years ago, but she never came back to visit her family and Celestia never mentioned anything about Sunset's family. 

The fact that she might not have a family might have been one of the reasons for her choosing to travel to the human world. She didn't have to leave loved ones behind, so it was easier to go to another world. 

The design of their faces, from the side. It is not as round as typical Anime designs. It has bothered me that they look a little bit too flat.

Also the way they are running in the movie "Legend of Everfree", where they basically enters the running animation and keeps running really funny looking. This issue isn't visible in the specials I think.

Absolutely the most annoying this was Starlight Glimmer's design, who for some reason got the same eyelashes as Rarity, instead of Rainbow Dash. It bugged me so much I don't count that special as canon!
