@Princess ❤️f Hearts💙💛 it's just a different universe earth where ponies won the evolutionary lottery instead of humans so they became intelligent instead of humans! Also matter and bodily energies work different in this universe for unknown reasons so unicorns are able to use there horns to manipulate matter and use there bodies energies and chann it through there horn to change matters form as well as to use it to quickly disassemble themselves and reassemble themselves somewhere else at the speed of light (teleportation) which happens much much to fast for there brain to register any sort of pain response which is why it does not hurt them provided the spell is cast right. Also it's a universe where the sun is much much smaller yet much closer to the earth and our planet is stationary instead of spinning around to create night and day which is why it takes either multiple powerful unicorns OR an alicorn with much more magic ability to raise and lower the sun and moon etc. My guess is that universe is based on unknown energy source that emanates from the ponies themselves which control everything from the weather, to the seasons of the year it's just earth ponies and Pegasus channel this bodily energy differently than unicorns and can only use it for a specified task such as moving clouds, or transferring there bodily energies into the ground to grow crops etc while unicorns on the other hand have the ability to outwardly channel it either in the form of an energy blast or in more constructive ways such as matter manipulation which my therory is that there is a magic demention and in this demention is all matter in the known equatria earth universe so unicorns more so have the ability to access this demention at will and can wilfully teleport old matter to the magic demention and teleport the matter of there choosing to the Equestria earth demention which sort of disguises it as matter manipulation when in reality it is more matter teleportation. With that being said it's also possible that the poneies themselves don't know the science behind this which is why they automatically coin it as magic.  Also since this magic demention that houses all the known matter in the Equestria universe that also means that if a unicorn wanted they could potentially bring an extremely dangerous type of matter to the Equestria universe and end life such as nuclear fission and splitting atoms etc but it's possible that the powers that be have his this from them and the scrolls to such potent abilities are either locked away in a fortress or they got destroyed for the sake of pony kind. 

   If you think about it this is how discord could work as "chaos magic" could simply be an even greater connection yet to this "magic or matter demention" while unicorns only have access to small amounts of it through extremely hard to conger thought patters discord can take the matter from that demention and reconstruct it in anyway he chooses with just a quick mental image of the item he so chooses! Which is just a trait of his species that being unfathomably powerful connections to his own bodily energies and with this demention. In fact when we seen discords "pocket" demention he created when he invited Fluttershy over what if that was not so much a pocket demention as it was a part this magic demention filled with matter etc!

  In any case these are my thoughts about how some of the things in the pony universe works! Also in terms of reproduction they are mammals but it's also possible that this matter demention plays a part in a sexual reproduction! So instead of having sexual intercourse etc when two ponies love each other and get married and wish to have a child etc a part of both of there brains access this demention and use it to make a half and half clone of both parents and plant it inside the mothers belly and when it's time to give birth the Colt/filly just sort of "Poof's" out instead of giving birth the way we do here in this universe! Which would also explain why the ponies have featurelesa rear ends etc is because this matter demention takes care of such things! The same can also be said for waste that the ponies produce via the consumption of nutrients! 

And this is my very basic head cannon of how the Equestria universe earth works!
