More worried, given all the animals in Equestria seem sentient (and many can speak) why the Apple farm has pigs....

@CypherHoof I still worry about the cows in Equestria. Applejack herds them, yet they can clearly communicate. 

Yes, which is my point about them being sentient and speaking. True for other similar creatures such as the yaks and the buffalo, of course.

They presumably trade their mllk for protection, shelter and food, plus presumably AJ only herded them because they were panicked and not ready to listen to calm discussion.

There is a weird dynamic about that, but having seen Beastars recently, I can appreciate that being a member of a mllking herd is a possible career choice for a sentient animal.

The pigs though. They are clearly locked in (and prevented from escaping) and there is no real other use for a pig to a farmer other than as a meat animal. That is disturbing.
