    Is there any way to tell how many members are on the TF2 Server prior to entering it?

      yes, go into TF2, and if you have it favorited, you can refresh current favorite servers and It'll tell you exactly how many people are currently there.

      I meant outside of TF2, such as a number on the rotating banner. I've seen things done like that as signatures and such.

      that or you can just go into steam , click View > Servers. and the just go to your favorites if you have it added. no opening of Tf2 required.
