  1. Her wings work well enough that if she falls, she theoretically might be able to slow her descent well enough to avoid serious injury. Though there's another problem in that Cloudstale isn't just one single cloud - some scenes have parts of it separated from the main cloud mass, and as such would be inaccessible to a pegasus who can't fly. Then again, that would create an extra incentive to do something about that (the way she was struggling implies that she hadn't been diagnosed with anything, implying that she hadn't seen a doctor). For what it's worth, I've seen a number of drawings and stories featuring Scootaloo being adopted by Rainbow Dash's parents.
  2. For that matter, Ponytropico teased a whole new location accessible from Maretime Bay, only to throw it out in favor of a stock moral. Boo. At any rate, Pipp really needs to test her new products more thoroughly, and properly protect them from contamination.
  3. One of the Chapter 4 episodes features her making a cooking video with Hitch - that was pretty good. And yes - one would certainly expect her to have at least some interest in continuing her father's work with exploring Equestria and learning about the G4-era history (that was somehow lost to time despite the fact that the printing press was a fully mature technology back then). Especially with the amount of emphasis Hasbro put on G5 being a direct sequel.
  4. That is, unless the time between G4 and G5 wasn't as long as commonly assumed (only a few centuries as opposed to a millennium or two) - the comics also show the donut shop in Canterlot with intact donuts on the shelves. At any rate, I get the impression that the writers are being deliberately vague about what exactly went down because after every threat the major G4 characters managed to take down, there's pretty much no logical explanation for this that won't make them look completely impotent.
  5. Exactly - the early press releases advertised themes of "diversity and inclusion", but G4 already had that in spades. I've been thinking that the movie should have involved Sunny and her friends working to prevent whatever it is led to the pony tribes splitting up. Hasbro would still get to boast of "diversity and inclusion", and fans wouldn;t have to contend with everything Twilight fought for going right down the toilet. The end of Chapter 4 hinted that we'll see what's going on with the dragons. To date, none of the other species have even been mentioned. Which is another big problem with the connection to G4 - if G5 is about introducing a new generation to My Little Pony, then it would make sense to start out focusing on the ponies and gradually reintroduce the other species. Except that the writers have been putting it off for quite a while - they can't not be expecting G4 fans to be wondering where all the griffons and changelings and yaks and such went.
  6. What's worse, Discord's flashback never mentions Twilight or her friends doing anything to counter Opaline before things snowball into an Equestria-wide race war. And in the show, Sunny's explanation for how the pony tribes split up implies that Opaline might not have been responsible, but it's too vague to draw any conclusions. Really, every reference to G4-era history poses more questions than it answers. Plus everything has come from an unreliable source: either blatant self-serving propaganda from Opaline or bedtime stories from Sunny. And everything about how G4-era history has been presented gives off the strong impression that: a. G5 was originally intended to be its own universe, and the connection to G4 was tacked on at the last minute as a marketing gimmick. b, The writers are being deliberately vague about how pony race relations went to Tartarus in a handbasket because they know that there's pretty much no explanation for it that wouldn't make Twilight look like a colossal screwup.
  7. And I'm sure it's no coincidence that this episode was released so close to Chapter 4 of "Make Your Mark" - that one will almost certainly feature a more detailed version of Misty's resignation.
  8. Actually, some fans have likened her troubles learning in a common classroom setting (as featured in "Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3") to ADHD
  9. And if they actually needed to take the ferry for whatever reason, why would they even need to take the Marestream to the port? Personally, my beef with this episode was that it teased us with an opportunity to see a brand new setting - pony civilization outside the three major cities. But then it tossed that out in favor of a stock moral.
  10. I was more focused on the fact that at this point, the pony tribes have been reunited long enough that one would expect Alphabittle wouldn't be the first unicorn to visit that particular spa.
  11. This wouldn't necessarily compromise anything there - "Tell Your Tale" was always intended as a lighthearted series to keep kids entertained in between "Make Your Mark" releases.
  12. I've wondered the same thing. Best I can think of is they didn't want to conclusively mark Scootaloo as disabled, as if not wanting to disappoint the fans who wanted to see her fly after watching her struggle. Though one would think letting her explore the wonderful world of aeronautics would have been a logical compromise between them and the fans holding her up as a quality specimen of disability representation.
  13. It seems like it was pretty obviously supposed to be that not all old people are so feeble that they need to be treated like babies. The problem is that it paints Rainbow Dash as selfish for wanting to slip away to ride the roller coaster, but if one applies the aforementioned moral, then she was doing the old mares no harm by doing so.
  14. Eh, not really out-of-character - I'm pretty sure there have been other scenes of Spike acting as the voice of reason. The fact that so many of them got sick at once would be pretty strong evidence that this Horsey Hives is in fact contagious.
  15. To be fair, it's not always possible to achieve one's initial dream, and the idea of turning a weakness into a strength is a totally legitimate message. But you do have a valid point in that the episode casually glossed over the fact that Trouble Shoes did not, technically speaking, achieve the career goal he was aiming for. Plus all those years of being afraid to even keep trying to achieve his dream for fear of being laughed at were swept under the rug the moment he sees that he can make a career out of being laughed at.
  16. It looks like that one was geared specifically towards toy collectors. And now ponycon.info is showing something called Lunafest (starting Novermer 11), but there's no link to a website for it, and Google results are showing something completely different. Does anyone know what's going on there?
  17. At the end of the "Make Your Mark" special, when: Reminds me of a couple stories I've seen in Fimfiction dealing with the idea that pegasi have an instintive need to fly, and even with their magic drained they feel a strong urge to try, with tragic results.
  18. I'd have gone with more sophisticated examples of combining magic and technology (think Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000, or Tank's propeller) rather than just fancier real-world technology, which could easily end up with a steampunk-ish vibe (like, say, The Golden Compass). Plus if we're going to handle themes of racism, I'd make the initial plot about preventing the sort of total societal collapse that led up to the G5 movie.
  19. Realistically, one would expect her to find out about the time Apple Bloom tried hang gliding, and notice Tank's propeller. Though perhaps that's why, in "Growing Up is Hard to Do", she didn't seem to even notice that her wings didn't grow along with the rest of her. As a mechanical engineer, I have found myself drawn to Scootaloo - both as a pony with mechanical skills of her own and one who could stand to benefit from mechanical engineering.
  20. That begs the question of whether it's even possible to use those rainbow lasers for evil. Any creature who attempted to do what Neighsay is allegedly afraid of would no longer be motivated by friendship, so whether the rainbow lasers would still work properly is highly debatable. Not to mention that in the long run, an attitude of "We can't make friends with other species because they might turn on us" would more likely than not increase the risk of war.
  21. Not likely. "School Daze" ended with Neighsay making blatantly xenophobic remarks right in front of Celestia and the representatives of the non-pony nations. It would be painfully obvious that there is a legitimate reason for an investigation. And it's not about making an exception to the rules for Twilight's school, but making the perfectly reasonable request that the EEA rethink their rules.
  22. The movie was good enough to leave me moderately optimistic towards G5 as a whole. The "Make Your Mark" special felt like it was more concerned with setting the stage for the show proper than telling its own story, but it was still decent. "Tell Your Tale" feels like a modest step up from "Pony Life" - not terribly impressive, but still entertaining. So based on what I've seen, I'd say the rest of G5 has a sporting chance of turning out well.
  23. Blueblood wasn't even really an "antagonist" in the traditional sense - he just turned out to not be what Rarity was hoping for. There's also the matter that when Rarity was fantasizing about Blueblood, it was strongly suggested that she was more interested in social status than an actual relationship. So it could reasonably be interpreted that she kind of deserved what she got there.
  24. Plus it would have been a good way to teach Rainbow Dash a little humility without senselessly picking on her. Instead of being knowingly thrust into a job she has zero interest in, she'd just be coming face-to-face with a pony with abilities equal to her own, and learning that the existence of such a pony doesn't make her any less awesome.
  25. The idea there is that pretty much any unicorn has the potential to learn a variety of advanced magic if they so choose, even if most of them find it to be not worth the effort. Other ponies don't have that option. (Though the 2021 Annual comic did have one of the diamond dogs doing unicorn-style levitation with a magic staff, with the implication that she had been practicing other magic, which had me wondering if something like that might work for non-unicorn ponies. Or zebras, given Zecora's backstory from the Season 10 comics.) Though even if Rarity's career doesn't need magic beyond levitation and gem detection, one would think that it would be worthwhile for her to learn a few key spells for when she's off on some adventure or fighting one of the major villains. For instance, teleportation is great for getting one's self out of trouble.
