  1. just a little speculation here: (pardon my tentative knowledge on the history of equestria, let me know if I get anything wrong ^^' ) in the show, we see that the pegasi, earth ponies, and unicorns fought a lot when they first came to equestria. They resolve that, a live peacefully together, and we get the first elements of harmony, but then they have to seal themselves away to stop the pony of shadows. Celestia and Luna become the new elements, but then they have to fight Discord, and then each other, and we lose the elements again. Even the Mane 6 lose the elements again. Sombra is an issue for the Crystal Empire somewhere in there too; and on top of all that, the ponies are at best neutral, and at worse active enemies with the other races like the hippogriffs, gryphons, changelings, and dragons. Equestria is basically at war with things constantly up until the end of season 9 We don't see any non-ponies really integrate into pony society until season 8-9 ish with the school of friendship. So what do you think? Do you think the events in FIM would be considered a "dark age" in the future when Equestria has more allies and (hopefully) less conflict? It's up to you if you want to consider G5 into this as well
  2. I think the only moment I actually thought fondly of the yaks was when Yona was recalling her family traditions it always seemed like they wanted nothing to do with the ponies so it was weird how featured they were in the later seasons. Totally agree with Jane up there too, why was it always the non-pony races that had to learn from the ponies? Of course the mane 6's purpose was to spread friendship and all, but was there really never a point where the ponies could have learn from the non-ponies? The gryphons and their history, the changelings and their stong bonds, the yaks and their community, the adaptability of the hippogriffs... just seems like there was a lot of opportunity there, especially to teach the lesson that, y'know, you can find knowledge anywhere. honestly, Celestia and Luna could have learned a thing or two from Thorax and Pharynx
  3. I totally agree that Grogar shoud've been the main villain of season 9. He's way more threatening than the Useless Trio we got and I was honestly disappointed when they revealed that it was just Discord pointlessly ruining things again as much as I like Discord, he needed more episodes to mellow out his character, cause his behavior in season 9 just seemed very out of place. For Cozy Glow.... I think the "using friendship against the ponies" is a decent idea for a villain, but I think they should've just kept that reasoning to Cozy herself. The whole point of literally every villain they brought back was that they were markedly AGAINST all friendship it was very strange seeing them cooperate, or at least attempt to, and it always felt unnatural to me the way they interacted. Also, I really don't get turning her to stone. Or even sending her to tartarus...? she's a child. if the mane 6 can reform/attempt to reform Nightmare Moon, Discord, Chrysalis, Starlight, and others, you'd think Cozy wouldn't be all that bad for them, no? It just seems weird to me to condemn a child to a potential eternity made of stone. Especially when Discord notes that he could sense what was around him when he was stone In my personal next gen universe, I have Cadance take in Cozy as an adoptive daughter and she's reformed by Flurry Heart, which is how Flurry gains her alicornhood. (trials of the heir to the throne of the princess of love and all) but yeah, that's just my two cents. Season 9 was.... it's own thing. I think the show writers just weren't confident with what they were doing seeing as they were ending a massively watched show

update to my ponysona Render since I wasn't happy with their previous design :oh_golly: I used to hate solid color manes but I think I really like it on Render

  5. your work is stunning! I love the cartoony style you've achieved, it stays faithful to the original style of the show while having your own wonderful original twist on it. Work at your own pace, but I'd love to see more from you in the future!
  6. I was always under the impression that her house was big because it's mostly made of clouds, which are practically free I'd imagine it's big to also accommodate for rainbow flying around all the time and needing the space. Though, I wouldn't discount the theory that her parents send her extra bits every month...
  7. people are surprised that they aren't keeping the movie cast for the G5 shorts? :lie: disappointment I get, but they had such an a-list cast, I was going to be extremely surprised if even one of them was brought into the shorts episodes

  8. My hope would be that they hired a graphic designer/typographer to design a font purely for the G5 merchandise. but my assumption is that they just bought the rights off someone with a pre-made typeface I put it through whatthefont! and none of the results came up as a 100% match, so I think they probably purchased a typeface and then had a designer make tweaks to it to make it more unique to the merchandise doesn't mean someone couldn't replicate the font for free use so hasbro doesn't go all cease and desist that could be my next design project
  9. While I'm not gonna be watching the youtube shorts (I never watched pony life or the stop motion g4 series, and only watched hello pinkie pie to count the animation errors), I am gonna give the shorts a chance before I go judging them. Though, just at face value, the style is NOT good. I won't analyze it on this thread, but objectively, they could've done way better, and it's clear they were just going for a cheap knockoff of popular kid's show styles. hasbro is certainly incompetent though. when your entire purpose is to just make as much money as possible without putting a first thought into making your assets have actual quality, it's hard to be seen as competent
  10. oh, people ignore canon ships all the time lol. It's a little difficult to do it with parents, but many people (myself included) just choose to ignore them for our own reasons. Of course we still acknowledge that they're canon, but that doesn't mean we have to include it in our own headcanons. Big Mac and Sugar Belle in particular is one I just don't get. I love them both as characters, but together? i really just don't see it. They have nothing in common, unless you count food, in which case EVERYONE is compatible with each other just based on that As a next gen artist myself, I see plenty of examples of where people switch up parents, or ignore canon ships, and what have you.
  11. There are plenty of threads on pony OCs and what character you think you might be in the show, but how about something completely original? https://perchance.org/mlp-oc-generator This site here will generate a random ponysona for you; just click the link, and whatever pony it generates is now your ponysona in the MLP world, just comment what you get below! Challenge mode is going with the first option it gives you Here's mine: She seems pretty cool! Not fitting for me and my personality or appearance whatsoever, but I'll take it!
  12. Well, Cloudchaser is my favorite, so I'd like to be her, but.... I also really like Thunderlane, and I feel he fits my personality better. But then there's Sprout Greenhoof and Written Script, but just because I think they're neat At the very least, I feel I'd be a unicorn
  13. that's a really good point! the show established that without the sonic rainboom, the mane 6 never would have met, and then later on we get to see all the awful futures that happen because of that. So, quite literally, the fate of equestria rested on Fluttershy getting bullied and Rainbow Dash defending her! And like Kaitlynne said, I don't believe Rainbow would've been able to pull off the sonic rainboom on her own, since it's been shown that she was only able to achieve it in certain scenarios where either someone's life or her and Fluttershy's honor was on the line. Thankfully she learns to do it on command after a while, but she really needed that push from the race with the bully.
  14. My impression (before they used that "older filly" model in later seasons) was that Fluttershy, on top of being a bit older than the other foals, was just a lanky young pony haha. It looked like they were going for the stereotypical awkward, skinny-legged shy girl you see in media (and irl, from personal experience). This kind of gets lost when they use the models on other ponies (AJ, and that one side character in Growing Up is Hard to Do) since they don't really fit that character stereotype, but still. Also, if you were to line up Fluttershy's filly model with an adult mare, the filly would still be shorter. The disproportionately long legs just make it look like she'd be taller, but you can tell from this screenshot that it's just meant to be a preteen-ish filly to summarize, I believe it just started as a unique body type for young fluttershy, but then they reused it for other characters. Guess we'll never know if the rest of the mane 6 looked like that as young fillies as well!
  15. Thanks so much for the kind words everyone! Here's a familiar face: I was having a lot of fun today messing around with a lineless style so I just had to make Rainbow Dash in it, and I'm in love with how she turned out! I haven't had this much fun drawing ponies in a while!
  16. I love this! You replicated the show's style super well
  17. hi everyone! hope all is well. I've been gone the past week since both me and my partner got sick :awwthanks: not covid thankfully, but it was a bit of a nasty headcold. Thankfully we're feeling better, I've still got a runny nose and a cough but still much better than it could be

    1. ExplosionMare

      ExplosionMare

Glad you two are feeling better :)

  18. At the start of the series, I would put the Mane 6 at: Twilight- 18 Rarity- 21 Rainbow Dash - 17 Fluttershy- 20 Pinkie- 19 AJ- 19 And the CMC at about 5 years. Twilight being 18 makes it fitting for her to continue her studies at what I have to assume is about college-leveled, and the CMC just seem to be young elementary-age to me lol. Then towards the end, when they all have careers basically but before the final episode, I'd day: Twilight - 28 Rarity - 31 Rainbow Dash - 27 Fluttershy- 30 Pinkie - 29 AJ- 29 And the CMC as 15ish. I think a 10-year span is fair enough for how the show progressed Honestly a bit of a lowball, considering Twilight becomes crown ruler of equestria after running a school (and the rest of the 6 being professors, essentially), RD is a full-fledged wonderbolt, Fluttershy builds and owns her own sanctuary, Rarity is expanding her boutique to multiple cities... and then Pinkie and AJ kinda doing the same thing as before, but still. Loads of character growth. I'd also assume the CMC are at least young teens when they basically start running a counseling service. That's just my interpretation, though As for Spike.... I guess he goes from Baby Dragon to preteen dragon? I mean, he technically goes through puberty. but he's still tiny lol, so I'll just say he goes from 7 ish to 13 ish, since dragons age slower
  19. Welcome (back, haha)! I love your ponysona
  20. I haven't seen any posts about this on here yet, so I figured I'd make one! If you guys remember the Pop Mart Natural Series figures from last year- they've come out with some new ones that seem to be available on the 28th of this month! It seems they've reused one of the Dash models for this new series, but she looks just as cute. Cadance appears to be the new chaser variant as well, replacing Celestia! Here's the EqD article on them: https://www.equestriadaily.com/2022/01/new-my-little-pony-pop-mart-series-2.html What are everyone's favorites? I definitely need Twilight with the coffee and sugar cubes
  21. Favorite: Friendship is Magic parts 1 and 2. The first two episodes of the entire show; I always find myself going back to the first episodes of the series when I'm feeling down or just want to see the ponies again Underrated: May the Best Pet Win. Or Hurricane Fluttershy. There are certainly other underrated episodes out there, but these are just the first two that come to mind. I think there's a fantastic dynamic between RD and Fluttershy in both episodes, and the ponies make huge improvements to their character in both of them! I think they're just very sweet episodes as well. Overrated: This one's really hard! I don't think there's any episodes out there that I think people over-praise. Everyone has different things in the show that they like and I'm totally ok with that. If I had to pick one though, I think it'd be the season 4 premier episodes "Princess Twilight Sparkle" since... pretty much nothing happens lol. I guess I don't really see the point of the ponies giving up their elements? And then it's like they don't even need them in the season 4 finale ( I really like the finally though, as a kaiju movie lover I loved the fight scenes haha). That or the season 6 premier episodes "The Crystalling." Again, nothing really happened. Also don't really care for Flurry Heart I liked Starlight's friendship lesson in seeing Sunburst for the first time in years though! That's a good one Hated: I do not like "Non-Compete Clause" or "The Mean 6." AJ and RD are childish and frustrating the entire episode in NCC, and they endanger the lives of their students. Twilight isn't nearly as angry about it as she should've been honestly. I mean, they learned the competing lesson way back in season ONE in "Fall Weather Friends." And then in The Mean Six. We get an episode of a bunch of miscommunication and in the end they don't even learn that there were fake copies of them. They just accept the fact that their friends were horrible to each other and move on; not even stress from a camping trip can cause that, and trust me, I know well enough about those. And then Chrysalis just kinda leaves. Before Season 9 came out when I watched this episode, and we didn't know Chrysalis was coming back in season 9, I was actually mad. A major villain returns and the Mane 6 don't even interact with her? And then she just leaves? The writing for the dialogue was also just... bleh. Not great. None of the dialogue felt natural, and the mean 6 were just cartoonishly bad (yes, I know MLP:FIM is a cartoon, still). All around just not a good episode, in my opinion.
  22. I wouldn't say it ever went through season rot, but the show definitely had its dips in quality. At least writing-wise (the animation improved with every season, which I always enjoyed). I actually completely stopped watching the series from seasons 5-7, save for a couple special ones. Then when I started keeping up a bit more in season 8, for the first time in the history of watching the show, I actually thought a couple episodes were bad. That's purely opinion though I think the main issue was that the Mane 6 were kind of having to re-learn friendship lessons, or failing to remember old ones (cough, Non-Compete Clause). Friendship is an incredibly complex subject, but there are only so many lessons to give in a children's show. To fix this, it seems like they started focusing more on the student 6, but then we were left with the issue of the Mane 6 being literal friendship teachers and STILL failing to remember their own lessons or not act childish and endanger their own students (again, Non-Compete Clause). In the end, I think the show ended on a high note. There definitely would've been a struggle if they'd continued for a couple more seasons, and you could tell it was slipping a bit by season 7-8 (that doesn't mean they were bad seasons, just that there wasn't a clear "goal" for the characters to actually be striving for by then).
  23. I thought they were gonna completely leave G4 behind judging by past generations not involving the previous one story-wise (save for a couple references in G4), so I was honestly surprised to see the Mane 6 in G5 at first. I like that it's a progression of the story though The merch with Sunny and Twilight together and the references to King Sombra certainly throw me off though. Not really sure how that's gonna get panned out? Surely they wouldn't combine the two generations Regardless, I don't think they're ever gonna bring back G4. Which is a good thing; it had its run, and had a solid ending. No need to try to revive it, I think it's a very well-rounded story that should be left as-is
