Trying to give a student feedback and my brain is trying to leap out of my skull and escape. Every single freaking sentence seems to be designed to hurt it. What did my brain do to this student?  why does he hate it so much?

Feedback I'd like to give  

Formal writing doesn't mean "insert flowery garbage every other line" it doesn't mean "obscure the subject of the sentence" it doesn't mean "make incomprehensible non-connections with unrelated concepts" it doesn't mean "constantly assert your opinion but mask the assertions by making 'the argument' assert them" etc etc etc

Feedback I'll actually give: "You make a good start with this. There are, however, a few issues with expression..." blah bah

Ofc it's not just expression either  his hatred of my brain extends to the lack of structure, selection of source material, lack of any discernable argument that extends over 4 sentences etc
