  1. *prefers Jesu* Their new album dropped, right? Oh wait... it did. I'm pretty psyched to hear this, but it's time for my routine Sunbather lovegasm. Seeya in a bit.
  2. I hope this counts as rock music. It's got no guitars ("blasphemy," I hear you say), but it's got such an infectious drive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slOTvMN0i-Y This band is my latest obsession. It's cool to see music that's so minimal but so infectious. They call themselves a "cave music" band, which is basically "primitive" house.
  3. I think the vocals are just as beautiful as the music. Wrought with sadness and fear, perfectly juxtaposing the uplifting chord structures.
  4. It's definitely up there in the eyes of the critics. The listeners are very split, however. For me, it's album of the year, no question.
  5. Bought this on CD yesterday to add to the BTBAM library along with Colors. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKvnc5JDq_s Someday soon I'll have the complete BTBAM collection and it will be glorious. These guys were pretty much my gateway band into extreme metal.
  6. Djenty and Stryker seem to be taking things a bit too far, don't you think? Need to get on this EP real quick. Vertikal was the first album I heard this year that I liked, and my first Cult of Luna album too.
  7. Would you rather have a digital file that could easily be erased from existence at any moment? Do you not want to support the bands you like and keep the music industry afloat? In other news, Pity Sex may have written one of my top albums of 2013. These guys (and one gal) play a great live show too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fz2Q_NifmpU
  8. This is my favorite album in the history of metal music. Good job. Gonna sidetrack a bit and post some hardcore. New Touché Amoré album is sick.
  9. Solo piano version of Cult of Luna's Somewhere Along the Highway. This is a must. Goes to show how music can be interpreted any number of ways.
  10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG8hZQBt7jI This is really great. BTBAM, ISIS, and Protest the Hero (among many others) in one awesome smorgasbord. And it's free. What a steal.
  11. Best Touché Amoré album yet? I think maybe. Deathwish has had a good year, between this, Sunbather and the new Modern Life Is War record.
  12. I've heard this band is one of the better acts in metalcore, but they're on Rise? I find that really hard to process for some reason. New Cloudkicker is awesome.
  13. This thread needs some Opeth, you know? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CvltVKjacw Damnation was my favorite Opeth album when I did my discography listen for them until I got to Watershed. Modern prog rock classic.
  14. A review of my listening over the past month, in which I couldn't figure out how to log back in to Poniverse. Sunk my teeth into the last two ISIS on a drive in and out of the city, and was thoroughly impressed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qn1Is2PWvy4 I think I liked this one a bit more. After a while of sitting around waiting for Devin Townsend spoilers (which I still am), I got myself some Jesu. Class act. Their sophomore album, Conqueror, is great music for directly after the sun rises. And now I'm here, listening to my album of the year for the 500th time.
  15. My favorite Opeth album right now is Watershed. God damn. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT5j2JJQBwk This album is easily Opeth's most varied offering, and I like how not every song is in 6/8 at the same tempo as Opeth likes to do.
  16. So many Opeth songs are in 3/4 or 6/8 at around the same tempo.

So what you've listened to everything by them up to Damnation?

  17. Don't tell me Dark Lyrics is down...

      Metal lyrics heaven.

  18. Part eight of this Opeth shit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEoJae1_-Wg I finally found an Opeth album I love in Damnation, so I hope Opeth continues to deliver the goods.
  19. This was a really solid listen. And there's a promo video attached to it that's pretty damn funny. Makes up for the disappointment of Hesitation Marks by a long shot.
  20. I have yet to find an Opeth album that blows me away, and Deliverance is no exception. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qzk_dlq3g7Q Damnation is next, and I already know I love Windowpane, so I expect good things.
  21. Finished this album just now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q13-BFr1GlA I liked it slightly less than My Arms, Your Hearse, but not by very much at all. I really like the acoustic parts Still Life offers, but MAYH feels like a more cohesive experience.
  22. CODE ORANGE KIDS. I expected this to be a sort of melodic album, but I was swiftly kicked in the ass by ENERGY. Reminds me of Loma Prieta more than anything.
