I still love the idea that little children in Equestria watch My Little Human. As far as the idea of the characters being human... I've thought a lot about this, actually. What I love the most is fantasy slice-of-life stuff, so if the characters were to be human then for me it would have to be like Tyroq said, multiple different races even if it was just humans with wings and horns (which there is also a ton of fanart of). But, even so... I don't think I would be as interested in the show. I've wondered a lot about what it would be like if the characters were a different species, especially cats since I love cats, but I honestly don't think I would be as interested. This is sort of complicated for me to reason out, so bear with me... Like I mentioned, the fantasy is just as important to me as the slice-of-life. Before My Little Pony I followed Touhou avidly (still do, just not as much as ponies) because it included so many mythological creatures in its cast. Part of the appeal was that a lot of these creatures were often depicted as monstrous or animal-like in mythology but were humanoid in Touhou which led to very interesting characters such as a living umbrella who hopped around on one leg or a kappa that carried a backpack similar to a tortoise shell. In that series a lot of the appeal for me was that all the characters were humanoid and I'd often avoid fanart of the animal-like characters in their animal forms. It just didn't appeal to me at all. In a similar way, part of the appeal of the current My Little Pony is just how human the characters are. Take the body-shape for example. This is most obvious in the head. These are not horse heads here, and that's part of what makes the characters so adorable. They look a lot like us while at the same time obviously being a completely different species. I also think this is where the appeal of clopart began, but that's a completely... different topic. The point is that the ponies in this show are very human without actually being human, and I think that's where a large amount of the appeal comes from. Still, the right amount of balance has to be maintained. I think making them human would just be taking it too far. Of course, I have a love for partially-human creatures and i would watch a show about a harpy, mermaid, naga, and plant-girl in a heart-beat. Okay, wow, wall of text. Sorry, I just love analyzing this kind of stuff.

I've also heard tell that it's short for worshipping, as in you worship that particular pairing/relationship, but I don't know how accurate that is. Alternatively, go through EqD's 5 and 6 star entries until something good catches your eye. There's seriously a ton of well-written stories in this community, the idea that fanfiction are poorly written pieces of crap be damned. Also know people who swear by Spiderses. I really am hyped for Equestria Online, but MLP Online deserves some love too. They even have a public pre-alpha release of the single-player version. I'm not really into the scene. I just like the music. I'm also usually apprehensive to use the word indie because it usually implies hipster when all I really mean is independent.

I like pony music. But, no, seriously, I enjoy pretty much all genres. I prefer indie music, though. A lot of popular music (at least in the U.S.) just doesn't appeal to me and I'd much rather not deal with large music corporations. I'd much rather give my money to someone like Johnathon Coulton who produces his own work or pony artists.

But I don't wanna be a troll! Oh, posted twice here. Guess I should actually try being on topic. I'm a big fan of custom titles, actually (as in the user creates their own title) combined with a user rank based on post count. Custom titles can be used for a lot of clever things (usually related to the user's name or avatar) and the rank lets you know how far they've actually progressed in the community. But that's just my opinion.

I wasn't around for the beginning of the brony fad on 4chan because I avoid 4chan like the plague so my experience is more recent than the entire history of the fandom, but still I have to agree with most of the posts here. I don't see ponies more than any other fandom. Especially not pokemon, which is everywhere, but I have yet to hear people complain about it. It seems to me that a lot of this opinion is coming from 4chan and SA (although I could be wrong, I've been wrong before). And I'm sorry for them that they were inundated with things they don't like but in spite of what some people seem to believe 4chan and SA are not the majority of the internet. It also strikes me as a bit of hipocrisy as well, really. I hate homestuck. I'm sorry to the people who love it, but it's just really not for me. I remember when it first started getting popular and I started seeing it pop up everywhere as well. You know what I did? I avoided the two or three homestuck topics on the boards I frequented, avoided the pictures I found while crawling the internet and just didn't stare at the homestuck avatars showing up. And you know what? I was relatively happy. It's really not that difficult to avoid things you don't like regardless of how popular they are. One other thing that irks me is the whole 'bronies think they're better than everyone else' thing. I don't understand where this notion is coming from unless it's because people are upset about trolling attempts not getting people angry enough. As I said, I've been wrong before, but I haven't really seen anyone claiming to be better than other because they're a bro... wait. WAIT. Is this because of 20% cooler? Because that's a joke meme that means adding ponies to things. It has nothing to do with being better than other people. My issue is that I don't usually see people who dislike the series being fair about it. What I often see is people attacking the community for usually very poorly defined reasons. I know this is because it's the people who are angry that are most likely to be vocal about it and I know a great many people who don't like ponies but have no problem with bronies. Still, the log from thine own eye if you don't mind. Alright, rant over.
