I never finished it because I thought it was bad. As for your other statement, I posted it here because of the title of the thread, no other reason.

I disagree, listen to mine.

And all was quiet as it should be, for all were quite tired and quite weary. Bronycon awaits the coming day, when the pony fans come out to play. May Celestia's day and Luna's night guide us all towards good and right. I hope all of you at the con are having enough fun to make Pinkie Pie proud.

So insanely jealous of all those who are at Bronycon. To those at the con reading this: What're you doing here?! Go hang out with your fellow bronies and have a blast!!

Conjecture on a hypothetical human invasion of Equestria?

We may not have to worry about a human invasion at all...it seems pinkie dealt with the problem before it started. https://neutronicsoup.deviantart.com/art/Pinkie-Pie-VS-The-WOPR-310141086? All jokes aside, this thread seems have stirred up quite the response. I am once again grateful for everyone's input!- 230 replies

Conjecture on a hypothetical human invasion of Equestria?
Scritches replied to Scritches's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Magic planes? Imagine that! Man I must have missed seeing those or something while I was still in the military. Not to beat a dead horse(no pun intended), but Viet Cong anyone? Also I believe I need to introduce you to the works of H.John Poole.http://en.wikipedia....i/H._John_Poole A Marine veteran of the Vietnam war, I recall telling someone else about him earlier. He is an adamant opponent of overreliance on technology. It is from his writings and my own experiences that I pull alot of my perspectives from. Never underestimate the ingenuity of the desparate. Tanks and other armored units using guerilla warfare? I have yet to see any such thing on the battlefield. One of the keys to guerilla warfare to be able to hide from your enemy to attack only to hide again. It's kind of hard to be able to hide a large, loud tank. Or any other vehicle for that matter. You can hear tanks coming from great distances by simply placing ones ear against the ground, if the ground is soft use a knife or similar object and place your ear against it. That's something that H. John Poole illlustrates in his books, low tech solution to high tech problems. I agree, I believe I made a point of this earlier that the ponies are familiar with those kinds of tactics as evidenced by the presence of camouflage. It certainly isn't used for hunting or and yet it must have been developed for a reason. Sometimes it's the only position you've got. Also "Chesty" Puller might take issue with that notion, if only he were still alive(and no he didn't die in battle, he died of old age). God bless you Chesty, where ever you are. Just transmitting from the earth to the moon takes 30 seconds, from the earth to the sun takes around 8 minutes. Assuming that Equestria's moon and sun are relatively the same distance from the pony's planet. That time delay alone would play hell on their coordination. Remember that the longer a covert is out in the field, the higher their odds of being detected and a warning being sent out. Religion? Who said anything about religion? It very cleary sets a precdent for it's existence in their world. Who is to say that Pinkie is the only one? Once by the very description from the episode synopsis itself, Discord is in a "stone prison". If the stone is gone, he gets set free. He needs no stone to be manifest. http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=36DUeE88F70 Tell that to those who witness these events in a place not near the danger. Here's a very common military saying for you, "No plan survives execution." Also it's great to remember Murphy's law, it loves to pop up at the worst possible times. Ask anyone who's been in theater. Try passing that one past any ethics commity anywhere on earth, to include the individual troops themselves. Modern warfare, tries to minimize unneccesary loss and death for both attacker and defender. That's what rules of engagement and the Law of Land Warfare are for. Perhaps you've heard of them?http://www.enlisted....d-warfare.shtml She's lived for over a thousand years and has been through many crises, I don't see how this would be any different. You forgot one, spread the local population so thin they can't coordinate and interbreed amongst them...wait..oh no...I think just endorsed something terrible. o.O;; I completely agree. Still we haven't really seen it at it's highest potential. Possible, however the first response is likely to be special operators to gather intel and possibly send the message themselves. I am of the opinion and impression that she is not that easy to get rid of. There was one of the many word of Faust images on Ponibooru that detailed how Twilight has Spike to help her and it was because Celestia knew there was something special about Twilight before her entrance test was even given to her. It's why she was given the "anmiomorphic spell" test as opposed to whatever test all of the other fillies and colts take. Ah very well, the comedy was indeed lost on me. Arachnophobia is a strange movie common phobia. I for one am not explicitely afraid of them, but I am not comfortable with them crawling on me unless i know exactly what species they are. Jets are VERY loud. Back when I was in the Corps, I was stationed on a base called Camp Foster, which is right near Kadena Air Force Base. We(my platoon) would see the f-15's and f-22's taking off, flying overhead our base, and then landing again at Kadena. That being the case, it would be quite easy to tell which is a pony and which is a military aircraft, just listen for which one is louder. Albeit with them going at mach you might have to wait for it pass you by. It is true we don't know the full extent only bits and pieces from the show. However I think that Twilight's existence as the bearer of the element may have simply given her the ability to be latently powerful at magic, or else it would mean that she has the ability to possibly usurp Celestia...*ponyshrug* Maybe it's because she hasn't tried to? I am reminded of an old joke: Have you ever wonder why politicians are called what they are? Because of polotics, "poly" meaning many and "ticks" being a blood sucking parasite. See you tommorow and good luck with your race. Well it looks like things have wrapped up for the night. Good night everypony, and thank you one and all for participating!- 230 replies

Conjecture on a hypothetical human invasion of Equestria?
Scritches replied to Scritches's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
There is no mention in the episode that it was a note. It could have been the result of an intellegence report, a precognition, or possibly a time travellers warning. Actually as it just to happens to be, the precedent is that most western powers, to include the UN, have a tendency to declare war rather openly. Will all aggresive moves happen only after? Not likely, however if you need an example to work off of, just take a look at the buildup to the Iraq war. Alright, I'm game. Who said anything about smashing them into the planet? The precedence is that they have magical ability and strength to move large celestial objects so it stands to reason they would be able to grab other objects in orbit to include ships. Oh yeah, and did I forget that regular unicorns used to have the same responsibility and ability? You really think that's the limit of her power? Did you neglect the fact that she brought those spiders to life later on in the episode? With that ability of hers, she could conjure up entire armies and reinforce them in a heart beat. Take a look outside next time you hear an aircraft outside and tell me how hard it is to track it with your eyes. And now give yourself magic enough to force it down or tear it apart. Oh wait, you can't do that, silly me. I'll pass, I don't trust even half the bozos running that joint. I suggest you start looking over the past 6 pages. It's loaded with pretty well written ideas for either camp on the issue. Feel free to join in anytime.- 230 replies

Conjecture on a hypothetical human invasion of Equestria?

And any aircraft The regular laws of physics as we know them do not apply to ponies. Which is why Pinkie Pie is able to do as she wills with physics itself. Rainbow Dash's max speed has been scientifically calculated from the mach cone and she exceeds mach 5. She and I imagine many others who are driven like her can easily make such speeds and manuevers. And given that she and those others can easily have their wings become as hard as a metallic substance, it's not a far fetch that they would do a good deal of damage to any aircraft they managed to slice with their wings. Is this some kind of joke? If so, I don't find it funny. They would have to be able to find them first. Technology is not everything. Armoured assests don't do things guerilla style.Even if they have equivalent equipment, we have the perfect methods and tactics to counter them. Well I hope they know well enough to stay well out of the system, that aside you think for an istant that Luna wouldn't notice something is wrong with her night sky? I hope they know how to coordinate their war effort while being outside of the solar system, communication can be a real bitch at those distances. You mean the library in Canterlot which you keep saying will get obliterated in the first volley? Two words, Pinkie sense. Also Celestia has some level of precognitive skills, after all she was able to prophesize her sister's escape from the moon. you mean the outer shell of his prison? Sure thing it will be vaporized instantly. It's only stone that aside CONFLICT and CHAOS fuel Discord. All of this would only strengthen him. Please see the above physics related post. Physics do not apply the same way to ponies as it does to us. I agree, the moutain would be toast. Yet again, she can phase her body until it does not interact with physical matter at all.http://pwny.at/o1- 230 replies

Conjecture on a hypothetical human invasion of Equestria?
Scritches replied to Scritches's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
This is damage done to a plane by a bird at much lower speeds than available to any military fight aircraft. Dragons are much larger so the aircraft in question are more succeptible than you give them credit for. A unicorn concentrating hard enough can likely bring down/tear apart an aircraft. Ponies have tanks(although how advanced they are is debatable) and artillary(yet again it's effectiveness is questionable) That does not eliminate the possibility of them being able to knock things out of orbit with their magic. You make a broad assumption that his "stone prison" is simply a statue. If you look closely enough in the first Discord episode, it seems more like the "statue" is flaking off of him. It's his prison, he is not the statue. You can't kill a deific being such as he is like that. And killing/wounding Celestia may not be as easy as it seems either. Both Celestia and Luna have shown themselves capable of being able to phase their bodies out of normal existance. Celestia phasing through a window in the second episode of the show, and Luna being able to change form likely including the vaporous cloud form that Nightmare Moon morphs into. These three will be no trivial matter to defeat. That aside Luna can summon storms at will.- 230 replies

Conjecture on a hypothetical human invasion of Equestria?
Scritches replied to Scritches's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
With Shining Armor at full strength there is no telling what it's capable of stopping. The changlings only made it through because Shining's concentration and magical energy were depleted. The shield was mid-collapse when the changelings broke through. It really comes down to how easily fooled the missles are. The fire that the dragons can spew is more than sufficient to disrupt it's guidance system and if hit by the fire possibly force it to prematurely detonate. It's the same basic idea behind using flares to confuse incoming missles.- 230 replies

Conjecture on a hypothetical human invasion of Equestria?

Firstly, the large guns on battleships aren't meant for air targets, you'd be lucky to even hit a dragon in midflight or anything else flying for that matter. THIS WEAPON however would bane of the existence of anything that flies in equestria if the hypothetical invaders manage to field one. http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=cP6GpAnmAPU&feature=related This bad boy can shoot down most cruise missle designs. May the sisters help the unwary pegasus that come across one of these.- 230 replies

Conjecture on a hypothetical human invasion of Equestria?

Any way you can get there refer to Blue's post on the subject. The invading force is a multinational expeditionary force serving under a hypothetical unified earth government. Indeed, that is the main purpose of this thread. Interesting analysis, there are many who agree with you. But once again, it all depends on those three questions I asked. They need to be answered... This is some great information, kudos for it. One thing to consider is that it might also be one part being able to have enough time to focus telekinetic/magical energy on it. Conjecturally their moon by itself can move at speeds far faster than any bullet or missle and it is moved by magic on a daily basis. That post of mine was to stop people from trying to get some of the more sci-fi weapons in, hand-held rail guns(the smallest ones are small enough to be used as small arms weapons due to power issues) and hand-held beam weapons. Vehicular mounted weapons were never a no go. I think it's interesting that you dragged up alot of that kind of stuff and I am surprised more haven't referenced that stuff. My complaint with the previous poster was that he proposed a death ray destroying everything. I know very well how powerful the Tsar Bomba is, there are videos and information on it all over the place. But thank you for the information none the less. I hope so as well, I remember reading at least a couple of articles int the Marine Corps Times about the Marine Corps considerations for fielding the weapon. No...no I don't have it wrong. I've fired the thing(M-16A2 in boot and the M-16A4 in the fleet) out there in the sandbox, it still jams up pretty quickly and must be maintined meticulously on a daily basis. Sometimes twice a day even with minimal use. As for troops not having any issues with it, you might want to actually talk to the troops themselves instead of just reading an official military report on them. Both of my brothers(who are fellow Marines), ever Marine grunt that I have talked to, every soldier that I have talked to, everyone in my platoon, and myself have all complained about the rifle. It's biggest flaw comes down to the simple fact that it vents the gases from the round back into the upper receiver and cakes the area around the bolt with carbon residue which in the sandbox quickly leads to jamming. After 50+ years of that series of rifle they still have not gotten rid of that one flaw which is it's biggest flaw. I do hope that they will either replace the M-16 or that in the very least that any future iteration of the rifle has that flaw removed. As for how well trained soldiers(speaking US Army) there is no consistent training across their various units/MOS's that train them sufficiently in that. Remember Jessica Lynch? She was captured because her rifle jammed due to it not being properly cleaned on top of the fact that she had no idea how to fix the jam. US Marine Corps on the otherhand is anal rententive about such things regardless of MOS. You do not make it through boot camp without training on how to maintain your rifle to near perfection and how to fix any jam except for when a casing/round gets caught over the bolt. I still assert that the DOD as a whole needs to either improve the main flaw(as detailed above) or replace it with a weapon that lacks it's flaws. I need to introduce you to the many works of H.John Poole, a former US Marine and Vietnam veteran who serve 28 years. The last ten of his years he was the Marine Corps' "go to" guy for ground warefare and advanced infantry tactics. He proposes and explains the reasons why even though we had a high kill ratio, the overall conflict in Vietnam was lost. A slight correction, China has around 2 billion people living in it which is roughly 1/3rd of the world population. For the record, the Corps as a whole wanted to finish the fight. You have to remember that 1 pony does not equal 1 human. Ponies are faster on their hooves than we are on our feet. They can carry more(Dash by herself can carry 4 ponies at once let alone what a male earth pony could muster up), roughly a third of them can fly in such ways that they can outmanuever and even outrun some of our fastest aircraft(Dash has been calculated as being able to fly up to mach10 and pull zero point turns with 5 times her normal weight). These flying ones can also use their wings as blades if they need to(seen twice in the show). Yet another third can use skills beyond human ability, a well trained unicorn team could, with the proper technique and tactics, disable an entire tank battalion simply by flipping them over and turn humans weapons against their users.- 230 replies

Conjecture on a hypothetical human invasion of Equestria?
Scritches replied to Scritches's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Do we know that for sure? Do we know that the Elements of Harmony would be unable to undo the damage such as when Discord. Also Discord...well let's not go there. All in all I can see you've done your homework. However most ground engagements are still fought within 300 yards. And it's usually alot closer than that in urban combat. Also SEALs and Marines are notorious for engaging an enemy up close and personal. Seeing that the only computer we have seen in show seems to be little more than an analytical/calculation machine, I doubt there would be much hidden on computers in Equestria. As for the rest of that, that's your MOS isn't it? How long do you think it will be until the other races of Equestria join in? Discord? The Zebras? The Griffons? The Changelings? It would quickly escalate into a world wide conflict, esspecially if the invasion's intent was to acquire resources. The guys in MarSOC might take issue with that "no fair fight" statement. xD Several forces on earth utilize nearly identical techniques, skills, and training to include the Russian Spetznaz, the Viet Cong, the Marine Raiders in WW2(who were one of America's first "special forces" groups though not in the modern sense), and even the Japanese, and Germans as early as WWI utilized some of the same techniques to some extent. Their method of warfare is summed up like this, small-unit, assymetrical, maneuver style warfare which utilizes surprise and stealth to achieve mission accomplishment. That kind of warfare required the development and usage of a certain kind of gear, specifically camouflage. One has to wonder what ponies would even need camouflage for considering there are only two real uses for it, hunting(which the ponies don't do, they're herbivores) and stealth warfare. And yet the mane 6 are seen using it, so at some point, the ponies developed a manner of warfare that called upon it and it's the same manner of warfare only this time around...magic. This one is going to take awhile, and I can see that you've done your homework. I think I'll have to call upon you to colaborate on this as well. *EDIT* That one took awhile! =_=;- 230 replies
