I was a systems administrator for a university. There were a number of things about the place that I hated but the reason for me getting canned was simply that there wasn't enough for me to do. Enrollment is dreadfully low compared to a couple years ago and they had already gotten rid of a number of other staff members. As much as I disliked the company, there are a number of people there that I'll miss.

Aye, but not one I didn't see coming. This is something I've expected for a long time, and I actually had the time it would happen narrowed down to today or Monday given the way the place operates. Boss called me into his office at the end of the day to break the news and told me to collect my stuff. I rather enjoyed his expression when I told him I already took care of that on Tuesday and handed him my keys and Sonitrol card, neatly packaged in preparation for that moment.
