  1. What's your opinion on cottage cheese?

  2. Tired. I'm always tired. Why am I always tired? Okay, last night was a weird one because I went to bed late and woke up early. It's 9AM and I still haven't had any coffee. Don't tell me the stuff ain't addictive. It very much so is because I cannot start my day or be bothered to work without it. Not that anecdotal evidences establishes or confirms a trend, but I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who share my experience. Speaking of coffee, I only just started getting into better coffees. I'm trying a light roast fair trade breakfast blend and - dare I say - it's actually not so bad black. I might go so far to say it's even just a little smooth. I've been drinking Folgers classic for the better of 8 years because it's cheap and available and doesn't taste like hot garbage, but I'm kinda glad I made the switch. It's not a macho thing that I drink black coffee. If I add cream, I'm turning it into a milkshake. So I drink it black to cut back on fat and sugar. Anyone who tells you black coffee tastes good is lying to you or lying to themselves and they're just plain wrong regardless.
  3. I tried Dark Souls....tried. I play lots of Melee with the CPU turned all the way up, though. Normal and below can be a cakewalk with a game you've been playing for 20 years. And I'll still never be as good as Hbox.
  4. Pokemon. It's hard to describe the magic I felt for it between 1996 and 2007. I missed out on Gen 4 and kinda fell out of love with it after playing Gen 6. Black and White were pretty great, though. I still have my original copy of Crystal Version. It'll need a new battery soon. I'll revisit that if I ever feel nostalgic for it. I get the feeling of just buying a Game Boy Color from time to time.
  5. 510831 (yeah, yeah - I'm not here often enough to remember it doesn't merge replies anymore lmao) Heya, Rising. How are things?
  6. 510,830 I'm only two weeks late lmao I recently looked at jobs with the US Embassy in Ottawa because part of me had fantastical dreams of moving to Canada. Not gonna happen, though, because we just bought a house. So now my wife is obsessing over home improvement projects. My concern is more on the structural side. We've got a couple trees that make me uncomfortable with limbs hanging over the roof. There was one we actually just had cut down. I counted 58 rings. It was massive. Probably 20 or 25 meters tall. Unfortunately, it died after we bought the house. So it had to go. It's a shame. Mature trees are so beautiful and I kinda loved that tree. Apart from that, I've just been busying myself with work work and yard work. Lots of working. I'm procrastinating right now. I actually have a lot to do....but it's Friday. But hey, with your events, that's really exciting! So is a traineeship sort of like an internship or probationary position? I'm not too familiar with what the EU Delegation does. I'd take a guess that it's an analogue to the Congress in the US? Where member states vote for people to represent their interests to leadership in Brussels? As an American here, I only know just enough about the EU to know there is a whole lot about the EU that I don't know! I could look it up, but I think it's more fun to talk to people about what they actually do lol And I am really excited for you! And yeah, about that heat.....we just came off from a slew of 40 degree days in July and August. Lately it's been between 30 and 35 or so degrees, which has been nice. It's even rained a few times. Now, this week, it's gonna be hot. They're calling for something like 37 on Saturday. I originally had aspirations to mow the lawn and pull weeds.....but we're in a drought so I don't think the lawn will grow much between this weekend and next weekend when it's only supposed to be about 25 degrees.............so I'm not doing it now! I'm hiding from the heat and playing games too! I know Europe has been getting hammered by heat this summer. I browse r/CasualUK from time to time and someone posted a satellite image of the UK from mid-August. Devastating. I know France and Spain have been dealing with heat waves too. It's horrible to see it happening and to see our leadership doing so little about climate change. :/ But hey, onto lighter topics - Have you played any interesting/cool/fun games lately? I finally got around to beating Breath of the Wild a couple weeks ago so now I'm playing Stellaris. Have you played A Short Hike?
  7. 510787 cya Hey Swirly. How ya been?
  8. We finally had the opportunity to get an OLED TV for real cheap (probably 40% of the original price). Once I saw one in real life, it was all I wanted, and now that I have it, I want to never go back. The problem is I didn't pay attention to how low the mounting holes on the back were so it wasn't until after I screwed the lag bolts into the wall and hung the TV that's when I realized it was far too high. But hey, I suppose that's life sometimes.

  9. 510,784 It's been a year. What's up, everyone?
  10. 506419 @DJSuitsCircling back to your question, no I haven't been checked for any sleep issues, though I'm sure I have some sleep apnea. I conclude this because from time to time, I feel like someone is sitting on my chest, and wake up in a cold sweat, screaming at my spouse to get off of me. I also have two cats that are really hyperactive at 11 PM, 2 AM, or 4 AM. Rarely do I get to sleep past 7:00. I also have a really hard time getting to sleep. My old man can blink and fall asleep. I either try to sleep despite the insomnia or use something else to help me get there. A melatonin supplement usually does the trick, but I try to avoid using those for more than a few days at a time. If I can fall into a schedule, I'll wake up and go to sleep at the same time every night/day. It's just getting there that's the trick. If I go to bed late once, I'm not sleeping right for a month. I used to never take naps until I was probably 26 or 27. Now I'm half asleep a couple hours before I get off work. Which sucks, because it's not like I have nothing to do.
  11. 506417 Thank you! And that's exciting! What's your major? What are you doing or planning to do in Commerce? I guess, more to the point, what's your field of work? If you don't mind me asking all of that. Funny thing is I work in state government. I do funding for some of the state's social/welfare programs. I actually really enjoy working for the state, and the people I work with are wonderful folks. They really do care about helping less fortunate people put food on the table and couldn't give a rip about the politics behind these programs. My job now is a bit more social than the job I just got promoted from so I'm actually looking forward to meeting some new people, which is a new thing for me. But my drive before teleworking was 20 minutes there and 30 minutes back (it's like 65 kilometers round trip..booooo...) because traffic. I joke all the time that since they sent us home, I love my commute. The dress code is also pretty lax most of the time! I think the worst part of telework is learning. We're adopting a new financial system that goes live in less than a month and half the people that're going to be using it have no clue what they're doing and the other half are having to pick up the slack. The people integrating this system are giving us detailed instructions, but they keep changing it, which has been hard on me lol But hopefully we'll have it all settled soon.
  12. 506413 I had pretty good luck with Focalin XR when I was younger so I'm going to ask to start out on that and see where things go with it. My spouse will probably be able to pick up on major changes so hopefully we'll know if things go south pretty quickly. I quit taking it mostly because of emotional/trauma-related issues. There was also the fact that I didn't like the way it made me feel. I was thirsty all the time, and my palms were always sticky and sweaty. Of course, now that I'm drinking a liter of coffee every morning, it's nothing that my coffee doesn't already do.
  13. What are some of your hobbies? Personally, I'm into CD collecting.

  15. Yeah, I think I was last here like 4-6 months ago? idk I lose track. Don't know if I mentioned last time I was here, but I got married lmao My spouse and I decided to replace the carpet in our computer room because it was destroying the casters on our desk chairs. That was April. We didn't get our floor installed until last week. Cool thing is I got my gaming computer put back together now and I can finally play The Sims again! Honestly kind of sick of working from home because my neurodivergent butt can't focus on anything if it'd save my life and there is ZERO accountability working like this. I haven't been medicated for my ADHD since 2013 and I'm tired of the lack of focus so I talked to my therapist about getting on medication again (only took almost all of my twenties to come to terms with this, but better late than never). So hey, maybe I'll actually earn the promotion I just got lmao But overall, I'd say my mental health is better than it's ever been. At least, better than it's been in 20 years. hbu?
  16. As a victim of physical, mental, and emotional abuse throughout the entirety my childhood, it was incredibly hard to come to terms with a few things until it happened in therapy. No matter how perfect you are, abusers will still abuse you. Not because you aren't perfect (you aren't, and that's okay) but because you will never measure up to their cruel and impossible standards. Your love and trust are earned. Nobody is entitled to those things from you. Assertion is the most important skill you can practice when you're in your late teenage years. Anyone who calls it rebellion does not respect your ability to think for yourself. Someone who does not want you to think for yourself is not your friend.
  17. About as strong as a box of newborn rabbits. If I weren't 130 kilos, I could really be knocked over by a stout breeze. Been doing wall pushups lately to try to build a little strength. I can do 3 pushups from the floor so I guess I've got that going for me.
  18. I got the Pfizer vaccine. And if I can get poked a third time, I'm going to jump on the first chance I have to get it.
  19. Only because it's the one I'm listening to right now. But I'd be lying if I said it's not on constant repeat in my head.
