What To Do Now?
I used to be a stranger replied to SynFulFlutterShy's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Turn your monitor upside down. There, now you can re-experience all the episodes over again with a new way of watching them. It's like 3D but cheaper. That or you can do what I do and analyze the show within its own context. -
Favourite & Recommended Fanfictions
I used to be a stranger replied to Slendermane's topic in Sugarcube Corner
I greatly enjoyed Macintosh by TheTotalOverflow. The gist of the story is "Big Macintosh has his day." Upon the insistence of his two sisters and grandmother, Big Mac spends the day in town as opposed to his normal spending all his time on the farm, and he makes several new friends and in doing so eventually saves the town and somepony's life, changes the Summer Sun Celebration to be held at Ponyville again, clears up some emotional baggage from his past, and it begins to hint upon a future that would entail shipping but ends politely before going further. Apart from what little reading I've done as of about last week, I am very poorly read regarding My Little Pony fan fictions and I'm perfectly happy to keep it that way.- 836 replies

S02:E09 - Sweet and Elite
I used to be a stranger replied to Captain Marvelous's topic in Season 2 Discussion
At 9:50 the hors'd'oderves bit seems to be a nod to the Russian dance and dinner scene from the 1971 movie Patton starring George C. Scott. Another great hint at manliness. -

Why don't we agree to disagree? -
Last week I read My Little Pony for the first time. Two things happened: The ending of Summer Days & Evening Flames (sequel to Heart of Gold, Feathers of Steel) coinciding with Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor Alle breve Finale while eating cookies and milk. The ending of Macintosh coinciding with The Go! Team's Friendship Update. It is hard to describe the level of elation these happenings produced.

Propositions are not for ending sentences with. A pessimist says the glass is half empty. An optimist says the glass is half full. An engineer says the glass is twice as large as it needs to be. If a pizza has a radius Z and a depth A, its volume can be defined as Pi*Z*Z*A. He who makes a mistake in an elevator is wrong on many levels. What is Eternity? Oh, I could go on about that forever. Iron = Fe Male = Man Therefore Ironman = Female 12% of the planets have 70% of the mass Occupy Jupiter

Is there enough surface area on the back of a pony for a pony to stand on?

I don't really need an original character. I just notice the similarities between Twilight Sparkle and retired NASA Flight Director Gene Kranz. (The Flight Director is The head of mission control, his authority supersedes the Flight Commander on board the actual spacecraft, and even the President cannot countermand his orders in real-time. He is THE guy in charge in every space mission.) (Kranz Directed Apollo 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 and Skylab 2, among other things.) First example: in A Dog And Pony Show, Twilight's reaction instantaneously to "There must be hundreds [of holes]!" is "Then let's get started". No nonsense, rational immediate action. Pray remind of the scene in Apollo 13 immediately after the explosion of the Odyssey that almost kills the three astronauts, Kranz's reaction is "Wake up anybody you need, get them in here, sit down, buckle up. Let's work the problem, people. Let's not make things worse by guessing." Second example: a Triple checklist as seen in Lesson Zero is the sort of safeguard redundancy mentality that's driven NASA ever since the Saturn-204 disaster. More alike than you'd think, beyond wearing a red white and blue neck thing.

Firearms in Equestria?

All theories on history and such.
I used to be a stranger replied to Spock's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
The system of logic for MLP seems to work by twos. I like Krall's theory to an extent, and allows me to posit: Celestia and Luna are absolute control of harmony via light and dark. We could assume that [stars] and Discord are absolute control of randomness via light and dark. -

Is Princess Celestia very kind?
I used to be a stranger replied to w1kk3d's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
My opinion is that Celestia above all is patient. If a 60 year old man has "seen it all" and can easily predict how people will think and act, how much more would a ~1000+ year old Supreme Monarch? In as much inferred silent patient wisdom that a character like Zecora or Big Macintosh has, Celestia is likely just more playful with that power and wisdom. It's compounded by her desire to spite the idea that she should be protected and harboured so by her inordinate staff in Canterlot, and outrageous nigh-fearful fervor of her subjects.- 38 replies

What Element of Harmony Are You?
I used to be a stranger replied to Sageflare's topic in Forum Lounge
Patience, Constancy and Peace could also be Elements. I myself make a point of honesty, so I would think it most befitting. Fire, Friends and Books Decree: Wisdom, Strength and Courtesy -Sheldon Vanauken -
Electricity? Candles? Science?

I would have said Gilda in the same manner Dog Riverites spit whenever they mention Wullerton, but my opinion of her character was changed when I read Heart of Iron & Wings of Gold which develops her character as being a tragic result of abusive family as well as a pretty... dismal... posit of Griffin culture compared to Pony culture. Thus Snips and Snails are the stupidest ponies. Ostensibly necessary evil however, since obviously they have to have adolescent "boy trouble". My concern however is if and/or when they'll have to tackle the relationships between Brothers and Sisters, since the only visible analog is Big Macintosh and Applejack or Apple-Bloom.
