  1. I guess you could call my adding machine vintage. Do you own a pocket radio?
  2. It went zip when it moved, pop when it stopped, whirrrr when it stood still; I never knew just what it was and I guess I never will.
  3. It's kind of weird... After six years, Kanto has sort of fallen in my rankings. I think seeing old regions in 3D highlight problems that I didn't notice when it was in 2D. There's not a lot of variety in terms of the environment; it's all grass and caves. And with the recent remakes, the removal of the safari zone and game corner only makes the regions' problems stand out more. For now, I think Alola is my favourite in terms of geography because the environments largely make sense. The snow area of the game is logically on the highest mountain and the desert area is on the opposite side of said mountain instead of being somewhere in the middle of the map. The mountain range is casting a rain shadow! You don't need HM moves anymore either because of the ride pokemon system, so you don't have to worry about anything being inaccessible due to your team. The only thing I dislike about it is that it's an island chain and not joined together. If not for that, the region would be perfect.
  4. Because the cheapest way to do these sorts of lights is to have the current go across the filament in the bulbs. If one light goes out, the circuit is basically dead and the electricity can't get to the rest of the string. It is pretty annoying when that happens though, especially if you're stringing them together over a long distance (like across a house roof) and it just dies half way through. I don't think modern strings of lights are generally wired that way anymore. At least, we have this LED set which has a few dead bulbs and it still functions perfectly fine. Well, other than those few dead bulbs.
  5. I don't think smartphones are going to have any major shakeups in the next few years. Though I guess you could say foldable displays could lead to some interesting developments, depending on how well that R&D goes. After that though, I have no idea what the next thing will be. It might even be all about the software after that point rather than hardware.
  6. It's not really a constantly present fear, but sometimes when I'm looking through my telescope at night, I wonder what else is out there. Is there intelligent life out there somewhere in space, and if we encountered it, would it be hostile? Or worse, could there be a world devouring monster out there somewhere hidden in the deepest reaches of space like Galactus? The rest of my fears are fairly mundane.
  7. If by magic you mean something supernatural, then no, I don't believe in that sort of magic. There are some things I might compare to magic in a poetic sense, but definitely not literally. The closest thing we have to that are illusions spun by talented stage magicians, which are quite a treat.
  8. roses are red, white sage is gray, your server has a bug; 502: bad gateway.

  9. I've never used those bluetooth headsets. I look crazy already talking myself through challenging topics, I don't need to draw more attention to it by talking with one of those things! I do use bluetooth for my fitbit, but there are long periods where I stop using it. I get so frustrated with that watch; the heart rate tracking is unreliable and it can track thousands of steps I've never taken. I've also tried bluetooth for transferring files, but it's so incredibly slow that it's just easier to pop up a quick wifi hotspot and just use scp to transfer the files I need.
  10. I picked up a new monitor. My old monitor had some troubles with the buttons and it had a big red line down one of the rows. To be fair, I had it since Windows Vista. It's pretty nice and has audio, so it's perfect for my game systems.
  11. Yep! I've decorated my cubical and have a little tree and some fake snow on the top of my workstation. Nothing at home yet, but we'll probably put up lights very soon.
  12. So many good movie teasers lately! I want to see this too!
  13. I have to say supper. What can I say, I'm a carnivore at heart and supper offers a lot of variety. Second breakfast can be pretty good too: tea and a light snack like a muffin or granola bar. I'm usually too tired during regular breakfast to fully enjoy it.
  14. Argh! Finally a clear sky, but of course it's around the time of the beaver moon and it's right next to the thing I want to look at. Not the greatest luck these days for this astronomer >_>

    1. Phosphor

      Phosphor

      Don't feel bad.

Even if I'd brought my small telescope with me, I doubt I could even lift it after all the turkey and desserts I ate earlier.

Lol! Right! I forgot it's thanksgiving for you guys! I hope you had a good meal! :)

  15. Only if you're in the right timeline. Pre-timeline split, it just makes certain blocks disappear.
  16. Well, that was fun if not a bit peculiar. I don't even know how I found the first two, but the rest weren't really that tricky. Just purple left, but I don't know how to stop giving it away Edit: Thank you, whoever you were!
  17. until

I sometimes to this in my own software to ensure the user has actually read the important stuff I told them. "Press cancel to indicate you've read this"
  18. "Sorry! An unexpected error has occurred. The error has been forwarded to The Milky Way's technical group."
  19. I think I found an exploit in my fitbit. If I put in on a table with a fan, I can achieve tens of thousands of steps without doing anything. Great design, guys. :yeahno:

  20. Hopefully my memory was good enough. I played through the game pretty darn thoroughly when the 3DS version came out to make up for my pretty awful early attempt at the N64 version. I guess critical thinking wasn't young Celtore's strongest selling point Edit: I originally answered the master quest set, but I answered the original set too. Because I evidently have nothing better to do this evening.
  21. I've never really bothered with bluetooth headsets. One of my colleagues does and it's kind of funny watching him use it. He randomly blurts out "Answer!", then appears to start talking to himself. I will say though that it seems to be a good way to talk with yourself without appearing too crazy. (Plausible deniability.) As for bluetooth FTP, I've tried it in desperation, but you're way better off hosting an openssh server on your phone and using that for wireless file transfers.
  22. For some reason, I really enjoy the forest temple. It might have to do with the whole ghost thing and just the overall atmosphere. On the other side, I can't say I was a huge fan of Jabu Jabu's Belly. It was initially fairly confusing, the environment isn't exactly very pleasant and you're stuck carrying Princess Ruto around. It's mostly the environment though; I've never really been a fan of games where you go "inside" something. Heck, even bowsers inside story sort of pushes it.
  23. I'm obsessed with the following things: Programming / Software Development Astronomy Video Games Anime (mostly slice of life and laid-back stuff) Stuffed Animals / Plushies Water In no particular order.
  24. I went to the museum today! It was a really relaxing and interesting experience, I always come back from there with a generally positive experience and knowing something I didn't know about before. They're also building a Precambrian wing, so I'm really looking forward to what they do with that.
