  1. Why thank you.

Hopefully I'll get to go as well. I'll do my damndest to make it. Saw Sabaton back in April when they opened for Iced Earth, and they completely upstaged them. I wouldn't be surprised if the same happened here, although Amon Amarth will be a little harder to top.

You got to meet Pete. Lucky. Gloomy dude, but I keep hearing about how the guy was such a prankster. Go look up the story where he and the band punked their own record label. Also if you like Type O, you'll also enjoy Pete's previous act, Carnivore. Think Type O negative if they played Thrash metal.

I also got to see MH twice. 1st when they opened for Metallica, second when they toured w/ Darkest Hour & Suicide Silence. At that show, I got to see Suicidals former frontman, the late Mitch Lucker. You should go to the MH site where there's a video of a dude proposing to his girlfriend on stage and Robb gets to decide their nuptials.

I can relate to tastes broadening.  If I were answering this question 3 or 4 years ago, I wouldn't have any idea what I was talking about. I was nowhere near the metal fan then as I am now.

I agree!  I'm looking forward to that show.

Nope, only my parents did sadly.  I was too little at the time.

I saw them last year at Mayhem and on an off date from Mayhem with Mastodon.  Both times it was an amazing performance.  We drove two states over to see the in Cleveland.  That video was hilarious.  I wanted to see them on this tour, but the closest show was 21+.  They're going out again with Children of Bodom this fall before the album release November 11th.

My dad was so proud when I told him I wanted to see Cannibal Corpse some day.  XD

  2. Now you've gotten my attention.

What do I think when I hear heavy metal? Greatest form of music in the world!

What other genre can blend the virtuosity of Classical, the chaotic energy of Jazz, the emotion of Blues and filter it though the distortion of Rock n' Roll?

That vid is me in a nutshell, except w/ longer hair.

For those of you who don't quite get metal or are looking to explore it further, I recommend the projects by Banger films, specifically by those of metal head turned cultural anthropologist Sam Dunn and his films "Metal: A Headbangers Journey" which describes metals origins and it's place in society."Global Metal" which is how heavy metal interacts w/ cultures outside the western world such as Brazil, China, India, The Middle East, etc. And Finally, the 12 part docu-series "Metal: Evolution" which largely involves an episode focusing on a metal sub-genre based off of Sam's creation: The heavy metal family tree.

Not Thrash. Cannibal corpse is Death Metal. Compare them to Megadeth & Anthrax and you'll see some stark differences.  Sorry, but I'm a stickler for proper sub-genres.

Glad you both like. If you think Sabaton sound awesome now, you should see how crazy they are live. And you can do that too, this November while they're on tour w/ Amon Amarth & Skeleton Witch. Should be an excellent show.

Now on a more serious note. People keep vilifying metal as nothing but drugs, spandex, death screams and Satan. That's like saying all of rap is about drugs, bling, made up words and thug life or how all country is about beer, trucks, god, and depression.

Tons of different types of metal. From glam metal with it's songs of romance and living fast. The brutally fast paced growling of death metal and grindcore, describing murder and death in graphic detail.  You've got Thrash, the dexterous songs about warfare and social violence that were born from metal being crossed w/ American punk and hardcore and started the birth of the mosh pit. You've got Progressive metal, which takes metal and turns it into a complex art piece, via playing it in an increasingly complex way or telling a conceptual narrative in the song. Then there's power metal, which takes European folk music & Classical, merging it w/ heavy metal to make high energy, bombastic singalongs about stories of fantasy and epic battles past. How about Nu-metal, with it's songs about self-loathing, abuse and anger at the world told though the blending of growls, rap vocals, turntables and thick, downtuned guitars. And then there's the two or three dozen other sub-genres I have yet to mention.

I'm fairly certain there's a metal band out there for everyone.

Now I leave you w/ two very different yet awesome songs from heavy metal:

Meet the masters of goth metal, the late Type O Negative

And a band that helped save heavy metal during the grunge era, Machine Head

    \m/ Headbang! \m/

There are so many things right with this post, it's not even funny!

Wait.... Skeleton Witch and Sabaton are with Amon Amarth this fall?  OMG I can't wait.  My mom and I are going to that!

Type O Negative is absolutely fantastic!  So sad I never got to see them.  My parents met Peter Steele and he was one of the nicest people ever.

Machine Head is freaking fantastic!  I've seen them twice, and my parents saw them on Thursday.  Some of the nicest people ever.

I don't blame you on the correction.  Cannibal Corpse is so much different from Anthrax and Megadeth.  It's just getting to the point that I enjoy Cannibal Corpse because my tastes have slowly broadened.

  3. Indeed. I actually prefer it when they mix clean and dirty vocals fairly equally. It adds a wonderful sense of disparity. This is especially true of Melodic Death since they have a very heavy emphasis on the melody of the song (as the name implies).

I actually prefer my metal at times when I wanna feel like a badass. Since I pay almost no attention to lyrics the melody itself has a tendency to pump me up and creates a sort of adrenaline rush.

Metal's good anytime.  :)  It just works to put me in a good mood.

  4. Real music that speaks of the brutal reality that is existence.  The detailed imagery in the lyrics, the speed of the instruments, the voice of pure anger and rage bringing it to the point where vocal damage is likely.  Metal has made others think of me as a guy who someday is going to enter the University and just fire bullets at everyone.  Whenever I need to vent anger and rage and don't have time for the shooting range, some Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Testament music can do the trick.

    REAL METAL

    186_logo.png?5824

I think of Heavy Metal as a way to cope with anger and stress. My favorite metal band of all time is Slipknot because they have helped my life A LOT! I got hooked to their music since I was twelve and had been a maggot (Slipknot fan) ever since. When I think of Heavy Metal, I think that it depends on how much an artist or a group took care into the song regardless if it ever going to have screaming or singing or whatever, there is always suppose to be care put into the song. Otherwise, it's gonna sound like horse poop in a haystack.

I couldn't have put it better myself.

Metal doesn't have to be screaming.  Some of my favorite bands use a mixture of clean vocals and the screams.  When I think metal, I think of songs that are about something so true and meaningful, it's worth listening to.  I think of the beauty of the guitar riffs and the beat of the drum.

Bands like Blood Ceremony and Ghost B.C. may not be considered metal to some, but I like to consider it that way.  Metal music to me is just something I can turn on after a bad day and feel instantly relieved.

  5. My friend used to think that there were three different types of cows: vanilla cows, chocolate cows, and strawberry cows. Each cow made a different type of milk. Vanilla cows make vanilla milk, chocolate cows made chocolate milk, etc.

If you bred two types of cows, you would get a totally different one (ex. a vanilla cow and a strawberry cow make a chocolate cow).

Since there were mostly white cows where I am, she thought that there were mostly vanilla cows in the U.S.A, and the other types of cows inhabit different countries.

Interesting theory, but it wasn't true.

There was a kid in my 8th grade class that believed that.  -_-

  6. Bought two pony-related merch last weekend! Stumbled upon a Derpy t-shirt that was on clearance at Hot Topic. Spent a good $4 on it. Then I headed to WalMart and bought a MLP:CCG starter kit, been wanting to get into the game for quite a while now and now I can! :D

That's my favorite shirt ever!  Do you know if they had anymore?  I'm looking to replace mine as it has a bunch of holes in it.

  7. These are FANTASTIC!!!

I would LOVE a Wallpaper Request.   I really want something with Derpy on it during the scene where she comes into Rainbow Dash's hospital room waving the flags.  I'm not sure about wording though.

  8. I agree, without the points, Twilight's cutie mark looks more like a flower, but I can't blame you. I still think it's adorable.

Thanks.  I'm just happy I managed to make the top and bottom points longer than the others.  That took some thinking, but it was really simple to do.

  9. Cool, if only you could make yarn more...pointy...

I know!  That's my only issue with Twilight's cutie mark.  It guess It's as good as it's going to get for now.  Rarity's cutie mark looks more pointy.  Maybe because it's knitting instead of crochet.  I just don't know how to knit a star.  XD

  10. These are beautiful! If only I had the money... anyways, keep making these! They are wonderful. :) Maybe someday when I have money I will get one. ^_^

That's fine.  And if you ever feel like you will have the money soon, you can contact me.  I can have the item you want ready for when you do.

Gah!! I wish I could buy your things, I would really love one of those necklaces for the pick, I could use it as a real pick...that would be cool...anyway, I WILL come back for these things!

That's fine!  I love making the necklaces.  I plan on always having my shop open, so you won't ever run out of time.

  11. Ah, knitting~ I love it very much. I'm still learning to needle knit and I'm glad I can see your projects here.

My favorites are Rarity, Vinyl Scratch, and Derpy. I especially think the bubbles cutie mark on Derpy's was exceptionally clever.

Oh, if only I wasn't broke! I would SO buy some of your projects from you.

I've seen a pattern for that type of hat in an Usborne book I own, and Rarity's cutie mark looks a lot like leaves from the same book.

Thanks so much!  I learned how to knit a year or so ago.  It's hard to learn, but once I got the hang of it, it was simple.  Now I read while I knit.

The Derpy one was my first, and it took me absolutely forever to figure out the cutie mark.  I tried crochet bubbles, embroidery, and I finally came up with the buttons.  The buttons allowed me to easily make the different sized buttons.

I think everyone's broke right now.  XD

I adapted Rarity's cutie mark from a diamond pattern I found online.  The hat pattern I figured out myself.  I just figured out how to make a regular hat knitted flat and just made it into a rectangle to have the ears.

Well, you could do a crown for the headband, like twilight's crown

That's a good idea for the princesses!  I wonder if I could figure out how to do knit Elements of Harmony headbands!

  12. Ok, maybe I'll come back when I got money

I would love to buy one, but I don't have the money right now.   :P

I'd probably actually buy them both.  hehe

That's fine, and completely understandable.  I'm a bit broke as well, which is why I'm trying to sell the hats.  Do you guys have any suggestions on what would look good for a pair of fingerless gloves or a headband.  I was thinking about just doing the pony's colors, but I might incorporate beads into the headband.

  13. Wow, cool, you wouldn't happen to take requests would you? I would love one for my oc

I do take commissions.  I would charge $25 for the hat and $3 to ship.  The link to my commission thread is in my signature.

Those are really cute!  I love the Derpy and Fluttershy.   :)

I used to make crochet hats like that, but they were kitties and not ponies.  X3

These started out as kitty hats actually.  I have several black ones littering my house and I made a black on for my grandma and a red one for my aunt.  My mom made a crochet one that was similar.

Thanks!  It seems as those are the most popular right now.  I've sold one of each.
