EQG: like a 3 or 4. I don't hate it but don't feel like I'd ever rewatch this other than the cafeteria song

RR:  like a 6 or so. Soundtrack's solid.

FG: a 7 I think. I remember liking this one better than RR but can't really recall why other than having a really good time live reacting/shitposting along with my first viewing.

LoE: I listened to the soundtrack before it came out and was disappointed enough to skip on the movie

I remember thinking Forgotten Friendship was probably the best thing that'd come out of EQG, but apparently it doesn't count

Rainbow Rocks deserved more than a 6 :okiedokieloki:

  2. Key Sharkz is right. People don't necessarily have to be in the LGBT community in order to care about issues which negatively affect it. There's a concept called allying, after all.

I don't care about the legalization of marijuana because I do not use it. In any logical sense it makes no sense unless there was some kind of ulterior motive towards it but if I did argue for the legalization of it and act so strongly it would make no sense there is nothing for me there. Tell me why would him being gay or not be irrelevant? If we sit and say that is irrelevant than why is he so passionate about it? Is he debating just for the giggles?

And why are you so interested in why he's "so passionate" about it? Why does that even matter to you?  The only explanation that I can think of is that the idea of straight people agreeing with the absurdity of this censorship is making you uncomfortable, because what you're implying right now is basically "only gay people would think this is stupid." Not the case here, as you can see  :squee:

  3. dis art sux stop tryin nerd

Like I said, I'm actually pretty jealous, both because you have a tablet and because you're learning at an alarming speed, having seen your latest piece. I can't wait to see what you produce in the future.

You ought to be proud of yourself.

ew was I BEING SINCERE JUST NOW?????!!!

    WTF THANKS :@

Your potential for this is high, having seen your latest pieces. Using a tablet is basically drawing with pencil on paper, though, so I can't say it improves my skill that much. But it's so funnnnn to uuuuuusee  :D

All I can give advice about is this: pace yourself. Don't try to rush things with drawing. If you do, you might get mad at yourself for not improving at ultra speeds. Take a break every once in a while, and go back to drawing when you feel really ready for it, not if you just feel that you HAVE to, but instead that you WANT to. also we need an Octavia pic now XD JK, JK.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I did try my best to be patient even when it seems as though the drawing was going to turn out to be a failure, and it paid off. Sort of. :please:  As of now this is mostly sort of a hobby instead of an obligation, so I might be okay with taking it easy for now.

As for the Octavia drawing... who knows? She has a great design and it seems like it'd be fun to draw her. :)

  4. Hey, Shimmer fans! The following picture is actually drawn by yours truly in order to practice shading techniques, and who better to choose than best pony Sunny?

  5. Well, unfortunately it doesn't seem as though many people want to give me any pointers.  :sunny:  I understand that my art is incredibly mediocre, but the only way I can improve is to receive advice.

Anyway, I have actually made a third piece in order to practice coloring and shading. Voila!

    MwuIAyK.png

This took a while—three days, to be exact. Shading is a very new concept to me and I mostly just searched up other pony artworks and took pointers from them, but ultimately I was unable to successfully emulate the degree of depth that I preferred. Still, A+ for effort, right?  :please:

  6. And I suppose Rainbow Dash trading Fluttershy into slavery for a book, wasn't her fault right? You really don't understand how cursed magic works, and considering that amulet was being sold by some shady ass, black market looking dude, it's a valid argument. As for her "popularity", it's only gotten this way recently, because of a big push that was made during the last pony vote comp here, which was as far as she's ever gotten. Also, people were expecting her to show up in S5, especially after Gilda got a pretty good redemption episode, and since Trixie was in S1 and S3.

It's true that the Alicorn Amulet influenced Trixie, but in a sense it amplified her already innate desires, so it is indeed a kind of redemption in that Trixie does feel apologetic about wanting to get revenge on Twilight. Regarding the second point—you do realize that the fanbase isn't just these forums, right? The fandom is spread far and wide into several different Internet communities, and in Equestria Daily, for example, she's quite loved. She has a fairly substantial following, especially considering how she only appeared in two episodes and a movie. So I'd say she's quite popular—and your third point, regarding how people want her to show up in S5, only proves it, which is kinda ironic.

Also, uh, maybe cut the unnecessary hostility a bit? It'd be best for all of us to hold a reasoned discussion.  ;)

  7. Sounds less like its overhyped and more like your just a minority

Look around this thread—you can basically say that for just about every episode mentioned here.   My being in the minority is actually precisely why I think The Cutie Re-Mark is overhyped, as that would mean most people do enjoy it, which is more credit than I believe should have been attributed to this two-parter.

  8. Heya, forumers!

For Christmas I received an Intuos tablet—something I've wanted for quite a while—and in the past two days I've been having a lot of fun with it, despite my ineptitude for digital art and art in general. So far, digital art is something I'm enjoying quite a lot, and hopefully I will improve as I continue practicing. I created this art thread in order to ask for advice and critiques, so if you spot anything off with my art, feel free to point it out!

The very first thing I drew was, of course, my favorite pony—Sunset Shimmer.  :sunshower:

    d0lf2lj.png

I absolutely love her cocky little smirk. More people should immortalize it.

For a first attempt, I'm actually quite proud of it. Obviously there're some issues with consistency—some parts of the linework are bolder than others, for example—and her cutie mark was the death of me, but I think I did well for my first ever tablet drawing. Unfortunately I had to go with solid colors since I'm a complete novice at shading, and I'm certain that if I attempted to do so I would have probably screwed it up.  :please:

The next piece I only just barely finished at the time I'm writing this—it's a (late) birthday gift for a friend of mine.

    fruZNv3.png

    Eternal Rainbow~

There's a lot of issues with this one—notably the badly drawn background and my poor handwriting  ^_^ . I also accidentally made Rainbow Dash's cutie mark way too big, and the bolt looks kind of ridiculous, but all in all it could've been worse. I like the way her rainbow colors meld together.

So far my art style has been basically clean(ish) lineart, then paint bucket everything. I'm not sure if that's the kind of art style I want to establish, though. I'm looking for something a bit more original, and hopefully more shady and colorful. But I'm new to the digital art biz, so it might take a while before I find what I'm looking for.

Anyway, critiques are welcome! I hope your eyes didn't burn out from all my terrible art.  ;)

  9. 1. The Cutie Re-mark—By far my most disliked finale thanks to its being more like badly written fanfiction than something that was actually professionally produced. Starlight's backstory and redemption were weak, and the episode in general seems to go all over the place with hardly any regard for plot. Furthermore, Twilight's friends seem to be—once again—shoehorned to the side while Twilight does all the work. I thought the show's title was Friendship is Magic

    2. Slice of Life—It's nice of the staff to give the fans what they wanted, but the fanservice was absolutely overblown. To the point where, once again, it had no sense of a plotline. It seemed intent on pleasing the fandom to the point where good writing was completely thrown out of the window.

    3. Make New Friends but Keep Discord—Discord's behavior was clingy enough to border on creepy, and his treatment of people like Spike and the mailpony felt incredibly off. The plot itself wasn't that interesting to me, either.

I haven't watched Princess Spike, and thank goodness, judging from the reactions of people... What About Discord, on the other hand, was actually one of my favorite episodes in Season 5. The season in general, though, felt oddly flat to me. It didn't have a concrete storyline, its episodes are dull, and it was concluded with a poorly-written two-parter.

  10. I feel like that is a serious insult to call Sunny that. First off, I've never seen bacon that's the color of ketchup and mustard. Second, Sunny's hair is nearly as complex as Rarity's. Perhaps even moreso. And here people are comparing her lovely hair to strips of dead pig carcass? Intolerable! Absolutely, unorgivably intolerable. Sunset Shimmer, for damn sure wouldn't tolerate being called bacon mane.

    I... am... literally dead.  :D

Merry Christmas, everyone! Have some Christmas Shimmer!  :sunshower:

EDIT: For some reason it keeps posting two of the same picture. Weird.

  11.

It's not an assumption that the Elements of Harmony didn't change her when that was one of the Elements' clear-cut actions. The EoH wrapped her body around, sucked out her power, and completely changed her by force. We see her redeemed because the consequences of the EoH are the cause of her change. Her redemption isn't like Starlight's who had to decide what was more worth it, destruction of her own world at the cost of her own bitterness and childhood trauma or a chance to restart. Starlight chose to start over. Villain!Sunset never had that chance. Sunset's redemption's whole backdrop is a blatant character reset.

It seems to me as though you're taking her poorly written personality change as something else entirely. It's true that Sunset turning from an asshole to a nice girl is quite a bit unrealistic and rather abrupt, and it appears that you presented the explanation of the Elements brainwashing Sunset in order to patch up that flaw. However, that explanation is largely unsupported by any sort of canon, which means that, by definition, it's a headcanon. A headcanon is how you personally interpret a scene, a situation, or a character. Thus, it isn't what truly occurred in the movie and its continuity.

Ask yourself: do you truly believe that the writers intended for us to interpret the scene as Sunset's old self being replaced with a completely new person? By force? Through brainwashing? Is that really it? Would the show preach such a lesson—that in order for people to change, you need to literally coerce them through a method of that caliber? You said intent doesn't equate result... but the result itself does not show what you're claiming it shows.
