  1. Nice to meet you Chivalry, I'm sure you'll have a great time here. Glory to Rainbow Dash!
  2. 1. They wanted to reform a villain. 2. Discord was the most interesting one they had, and extremely popular with the bronies. It was an easy decision. And ultimately a good one, I think. I wasn't sure if it would work at first but they really gave his story a nice conclusion in S4. I think he's run his course at this point, so bringing him back more than a few times would probably be superfluous. As great as he is, I'd like to see another villain get that kind of depth.
  3. Well...hmm. I guess it's all subjective. I don't really think about the show in those terms--"going downhill." But I know it is changing. It's gained scope and maturity, but it's lost some of its consistency and charm. In the early seasons, we had character-driven plots and the letter-writing theme tying everything together. That's gone now, so most episodes are just a bunch of stuff happening. And Seasons 1 and 2 were written primarily with little girls in mind. Now they're trying to please little girls and us, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it does change the tone somewhat. We started to see that in Season 3 with episodes like Magic Duel and it really threw me off. I do know that since then, and especially since Twilicorn, I have been feeling increasingly disconnected. I do still enjoy the show and find plenty of positives, but the innocence and simplicity of episodes like Griffon the Brush-Off and The Best Night Ever--that's what really drew me to MLP, and I didn't feel much of that from Seasons 3 and 4. Everything is slowly losing focus, dissipating. EQG, the lost balance within the Mane 6 that the show doesn't want to acknowledge. I'm not against change in the show, but none of those are the changes I was looking forward to. I can't objectively say whether it's gone downhill or not.
  4. No, but she's a good flyer when she really needs to be. On a typical day, she would much rather stay close to the ground where most of the animals are.
  5. It's my first time posting in here so I'd better bring a good Flutterpic. Ahh, there we go. She's, um...I dunno, how do you define Fluttershy? I can't properly call her my favorite, yet I relate to her. I think she needs more character development, but she's the main character of my favorite episode (Hurricane Fluttershy). She has a beautiful singing voice but I didn't like the episode that focused on that (Filli Vanilli). It's complicated. Fluttershy is complicated and they won't admit it, so she's not being used to her full potential and yet she's loveable anyway. Contradictions. She's got a ton of 'em and she reminds me of my own. I know what I see in her, emotionally, but what do others see that makes her such a popular pony?
  6. I don't like him either. But to be fair, Vince ruined their careers; John wasn't booking himself in those feuds. On the other hand, he has awful-looking signature moves and has been performing the Fisherman's Suplex wrong for at least 10 years, and he certainly could have done something about that.
  7. Absolutely outstanding episode. It had that feeling of the early seasons about it that's been missing for a while, with a valuable lesson presented in a way kids can appreciate: the truth matters, even if a lie feels better. This time AJ has to deal with the Flimflam brothers on her own, and they were as entertaining as I expected in their return. They've never been especially strong characters, but they matter because of what they represent: first shady business practices and this time, false advertising. Applejack is in character all the way, experiences a reasonable emotional conflict, and does the right thing in the end. I'd say this is her best episode since The Last Roundup. And of course, gotta love that Lyra cameo!
  8. So...was Applejack kidnapped and replaced by a changeling? Because this isn't her. Like, at all. I just don't buy that AJ would be so protective of Apple Bloom. Helmets, bubble wrap on furniture, borderline stalking? Come on, they live on a farm. They put themselves at physical risk for a living! I do buy that AJ would be unsure of Bloom's ability to handle the chores or not make a mess, but unfortunately the episode doesn't go that way. I liked the interrupted song though. Then at the end we get a weird little side episode called "Apple Bloom Delivers Pies to Hell" where she is threatened by a legitimately frightening monster and Applejack has to save her. Realistically, this would only make AJ more protective of her, but instead she magically decides her sister doesn't need looking after because the episode has to end and she has to learn something and how can the episode end if she doesn't learn something at the end GRRRR. I need to lie down. Not bad, but a mediocre episode for me.
  9. Normally I would say Unfortunate Tyranny, but it's reached the point where even I am tired of pointing out Celestia's nonexistent teaching, lack of preparation and poor judgment. I've given up on the possibility of her making sense. An idea just came to me that's related to #10 but not exactly it. I really would like to see your analysis of Fluttershy and her lack of development. She's one of the characters who cries out the most for a more specific backstory and I think the closest we ever got to that was Hurricane Fluttershy--not coincidentally my favorite episode of the series. It's not that Shy is my favorite character, but I relate to her and want to see her explored and developed more. But she's just kind of there and being put in embarrassing positions for awkward laughs, like the one you point out where Dash traded her for a book. (Even Filli Vanilli felt hollow.)
  10. IronShy aren't beaten yet! The Whoovians, on the other hand...ouch. That's a Brock Lesnar/John Cena style domination. Speaking of Cena, gotta throw this in here:
  11. Happy birthday ^^

  12. I posted in here 3 years ago, but I thought of some more! *Never been to Disneyland or DisneyWorld. *Never used Twitter *Used Facebook for only a month and then quit (5 years ago) *Never drank Red Bull or Monster Unusual for a brony... *Never seen an Equestria Girls movie (never will) *Never been to a convention
  13. Nope, not me. I liked Tinkerbell in Peter Pan but that's as far as it goes. Well, I also crushed on Crysta from Ferngully when I was a kid, but that wasn't Disney was it? (And man, that movie has not aged well.)
  14. No. No, no, no, no, no. That's a "no" for each of the main characters, because I'm generous. Not just because the basic idea does nothing for me, and I am inherently against anything that makes the ponies more "edgy" in canon. But there's also the problem that genuinely good sitcoms are so rare that it's far too great a risk to take with something as precious as MLP. Even the sitcoms people say are good, they're really NOT that good. They're either teen shows where plasticky-looking people don't even bother acting but just try to out-quirk each other (Big Bang Theory), or "family" shows that are 25 minutes of bilious insults (Two and a Half Men).
  15. The description says, "Another 90's radio commercial we converted into a cartoon commercial." So some guys with a really weird sense of humor took a bad 20-year-old radio ad, animated it badly, and threw Rainbow Dash in there for kicks, I guess. You'd think they would at least do something funny. Like inserting Fluttershy in a taxidermist ad, for instance.
  16. Wow. I haven't seen much of the original Star Trek yet, but I really liked Leonard Nimony. He just seemed like one of those guys who was going to be here forever. This is a sad day, especially for Trekkies.
  17. Happy birthday from Minnesota. ^^

  18. It happened! And not a moment too soon, because Round 1 is officially in the books! Read my summaries of each match in the OP for kicks. (Credit to VitalTwilightSparkle for the idea of Shy using the stare on Apple Bloom.) This is gonna be good! The main character and her dragon vs. the background pony dream team, two sisters who are so sweet they ROCK vs. pony time travelers, the ruler of Equestria and a reformed brat vs. the cutest creatures alive, and Rainbow Dash and her role model vs. Fluttershy and Iron Will, who have taken self-help to a whole new level! If you thought reading The Secret was painful, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

  20. Just another morning for Lyra. She doesn't do anything like other ponies, does she? But that's what I like about her. She thinks outside the box. And the bed.
  21. Coming up next on the Food Network, Maud's special recipe for applesauce. Hello. I'm Maud Pie. I like rocks. I'm not really into..."cooking." Just rocks. Today I'm making an old family recipe for applesauce. Pick up a heavy rock and crush the apple many, many times. I think this one is done. See you next week.
  22. I also say no. There's never been any indication that Celestia doesn't value Twilight and her friends or have everypony's best interests in mind. You can't fault her motives, at least not in any reasonable interpretation of canon. Celestia's methods and results, though, are another story. it's equally important to remember that she's not infallible. She can be defeated and she can be wrong.
  23. If Twilight never became an alicorn... *I would still relate to Twilight as a character with no conflicting emotions whatsoever. *Season 3 would be less controversial overall. (But still remembered as weaker than 1 or 2, because the letter-writing theme was dropped with no explanation and the show lost some of that old consistency and just wandered.) *Season 4 would not have changed much, except that the obvious "why did this happen again" question wouldn't be hanging over most of the episodes. Not even the finale would have to be all THAT different, because: (1) It's much more believable that Tirek would not know about Twilight Sparkle the unicorn, rather than Twilight Sparkle the alicorn princess who had a highly publicized coronation. So that particular plot element would actually work better. (2) It's not inconceivable that 3 alicorns could simply transfer their magic to a highly talented unicorn or at least allow her to channel it from a distance. (3) Twilight could still fight DBZ-style without flying. (4), it was clearly the magic of friendship in the chest going through the Elements of Harmony in the Tree that enabled the Mane 6 to defeat Tirek, not the alicorn magic he ate for lunch.
  24. BEST: Hurricane Fluttershy, Griffon the Brush-Off and The Best Night Ever. These episodes illustrate exactly what the show was meant to be: a morality play with simple lessons, strong writing, and meaningful main characters. WORST: Owl's Well That Ends Well, The Mysterious Mare Do Well, and Magical Mystery Cure. Everything the best episodes did right, these episodes did wrong. The lesson was either contrived (Owl's Well) or hypocritical (Mare Do Well) because the way they arrived at it didn't make sense (MMC). The writing was weak (Owl in general) because the conflict was unnatural (MDW) or the ending felt like it came from a totally different episode if not a different show altogether (MMC). And the characters weren't meaningful because their bad habits were simply exaggerated (Owl & MDW) or they just had events projected on them (MMC).
