  1. I agree that Tirek was a lot more interesting in the first half of the finale. He had intelligently written lines with Discord and I was waiting for some elaboration on his brother and why he equated friendship with imprisonment. But as soon as he converted Discord and got more power, he just turned into this big mean thing with horns. He didn't act like a creature who had done however-many-years in Tartarus would act; he didn't even talk about it. And a lot of the stuff he did was sort of rushed, like the way he just barged into the throne room and tried to drain the alicorns, no introducing himself at all...or the way he was instantly sent back down to Tartarus upon his defeat. I was thinking about that, too. Why wouldn't he know about a fourth alicorn? For that matter, why would he know there was a third one but not a fourth? Why not be consistent and have him either know a lot about present-day Equestria, or know almost nothing? I'm guessing it's because they wanted a particular reason for the fate of Equestria to depend on Twilight alone and didn't think very hard about what it was going to be.
  2. Spike and Twilight are now tied with AJ and Big Mac! Meanwhile the Whoovians have pulled ahead and the Page Turners are barely holding their lead. Just a few days to go...
  3. It's a nice story so far. I like it. Anything with Apple Bloom in it is going to be cute, and the premise of her helping Rarity with dressmaking is an interesting one. We don't know where the story is going yet, so I can't offer much feedback on the plot. There are only two issues to work on a little bit. One is awkward sounding sentences, such as "By the time Apple Bloom arrived at Carousel Boutique, the sun had risen enough to justify being awake as sensible at best." I had to read that sentence 2 or 3 times to understand the meaning. To make it easier to understand, you could simplify it and throw in a few details to not only tell us but show us what time it is: "By the time Apple Bloom arrived at Carousel Boutique, the sun had risen a little higher. Ponies were beginning to step outside their houses and some were setting up shop in the market." The other issue is punctuation, mostly commas. In the proper places, these make the dialogue easier to read. And try to be consistent with how Apple Bloom talks; instead of switching back and forth between "I" and "Ah", choose one or the other. (I would choose "I" because "Ah" isn't needed; we know what her voice sounds like already.) "I don't know, Rarity. I don't think I'll be much help." "Of course you will! I dare say you have a special talent for this sort of thing," Rarity explained. If a line of dialogue comes first in a paragraph, end it with a comma. If a line of dialogue ends the paragraph, end it with a period instead. Like so: "Blah blah," Derpy said. Derpy said, "Blah blah." "Blah blah," Derpy said, "and yadda yadda." Hope that helps!
  4. A flash of inspiration. Ooo, Trixie and Discord are catching up. So are Twilight and Spike! And Pinkie and Maud have been kicking flank the whole time. A rolling stone gathers no moss, as I'm sure Maud would agree! I wonder what the ponies would sound like cutting promos. Applejack would definitely have to be the talker of her team. "Now Twilight, you know that I love ya and all, but t'ain't nopony in Equestria who's gonna beat the Apple family in a good ol' fashioned throwdown! Right, Big Mac?" "Eeeeyup." BTW, I think we all know who Diamond Tiara's favorite wrestler would be...
  5. Oh, the name Sweet Chin Music was certainly no coincidence. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qN8ogQVSrt0 Always great to meet another wrestling fan! I started watching it in 1998 and I still like it, though I don't follow it as closely. Any favorite matches you'd like to share with us, Sugar Cube? I was hoping Trixcord would do better, but after all they are up against two of the most awesome ponies in Equestria. And Bloom and Zecora are doing much better than I thought.
  6. Being such an awesome pony is very hard work that takes Rarity all over Equestria. Fortunately, if she needs a place to stay she can always count on us!
  7. Why, Princess Vi of course. She is also a cybernetic bunny if you're keeping score, but most importantly, she is royalty and she damn sure knows it. Vi is the de facto ruler of Little Tokyo because both her parents are insane. Her stepfather, Emperor Fred, is barely lucid and just wanders around the castle scat singing all the time. Her mother is an adrenaline junkie who's always on vacation somewhere. When they do reunite, they fight. Like, physically. With jet packs and missiles. But they love each other anyway. What? Oh, yes. Vi has a jet pack. Above all, do not make Princess Vi angry. If you do, she will exile you to Prisoner Island. So many citizens of Little Tokyo have been sent there that they have made it a tropical resort, but don't tell anybody that. Especially her. She also plays a mean game of poker.
  8. I voted for them too, but they won't make it in at this rate. Poor Snowdrop. Just one more day of voting left until the real tourney begins. I may to have to flip a coin to break some of these 4th-place ties! EDIT: End Qualifying Round...begin Round 1 and the head-to-head matchups we've all been waiting for! This is the busiest round of the tournament! 16 teams made it in...the 8 winners will advance to Round 2. The battle to take your favorite pony tag team to the championship begins now. Let's get votin', mares and stallions! :okiedokielokie:
  9. Because having her become a princess was unnecessary and a weird distraction from all the learning she did previously, and would have done, sans accessories. That finale could have been about her meeting the spirit of Starswirl the Bearded after breaking his spell, bombarding him with questions, and foreshadowing Season 4 somehow. I would have enjoyed something like that more.
  10. Personally, I would rather have seen her learn and grow than turn into an alicorn. And I don't want her to be evil. Pretty much all of the OP's points can be explained away as Twilight overreacting with good intentions (her main weakness, now that I think about it) and doing no lasting harm.
  11. I really like badass Rarity. Where did that whole "Rarity vs. giant crab" thing come from, anyway? So many awesome pictures of it and I don't even remember.
  12. Well I'll say this much, the first episode was genius. Tirek is an interesting new villain and the scene with him and Discord is great. The second episode was good too, but not as much thought seemed to go into it. Tirek becomes just another evil obstacle to Twilight, and the other scenes take long enough that there's barely time to send him back to Tartarus. No final exchange, no parting words, just right back into the cage. The battle scene is really unlike anything MLP has done before and obviously inspired by Dragon Ball Z, but that doesn't stop it from being a hell of a good time. It was like seeing someone's fanfiction come to life (but in a good way). Discord's story is surprisingly touching. The whole thing with the keys is wrapped up really well and it had a fitting ending, with Twilight embracing some sort of an identity--very thin and vague, but at least it's something--as a princess. The Super Saiyan Pony designs were sort of overdone, and I was glad they didn't last long. But compared to that new castle... ^That about sums up my reaction. Yikes. My Little Product Placement: Free Shipping is Magic. A powerful finale on the whole. I would rate it above Season 3 but below 1 and probably 2. And I'm really going to miss Golden Acres Library...
  13. You probably won't get this, but just in case you ever come back...happy birthday! ^^

  14. I wonder what she thought when the balloon first descended, I wonder if she had any clue where it would take her and if and when the bomb would drop. At least we could see it coming, the alteration of all we needed and the DVDs just keep stacking higher and the lotion is on the floor and I guess I'll pick it up in the morning. So tired, bags, plugs, and when the galaxy explodes from cotton candy overload I guess somepony will be there to celebrate and eat up all the remaining pieces. Pinkie Pie where were you? Couldn't you do anything before it came to this? Whoa nelly there's a box of something or other in the brain of the mother hen and it's becoming quite a problem. I'm glad you brought that up Granny, yes I'm glad you brought that up, for we are here to sell TOOOOOOOYYYYYYYS look at that hideous monstrosity at the end how can you have any doubt left, it's over. Like ginger ale. Over like Bruno Sammartino in Madison Square Garden. Over like the opposite of under. Blue terry cloth bathrobe for a doll? That's okay, Suzie is worth it. The best best friend ever she is, and my faith dwindles it does, and the cereal will run out it will, hopefully before expiration. Crunch crunch says Maud.
  15. I would like to tickle Rainbow Dash. There's just something really cute and funny about the idea of reducing such a tough, awesome pony to helpless laughter. She might kick my butt afterwards, though.
  16. I don't know. Does Western society hate feminine males? Sure there are a lot of jerks out there, but if you allow their petty words and actions to define an entire society for you, perhaps your viewpoint could use a change as well. Being moderately liberal in most of my beliefs, I'm all for equal treatment and social advancement, but I don't condone "cultural self-flagellation," as Steel Accord puts it, either. I don't apologize to the rest of the world for a background and history that I had nothing to do with. All I can do is control my own actions and conduct myself in a way that doesn't harm others. The whole "anti-woman" thing just isn't part of my experience. I grew up surrounded by women who could, and did, make most of the important decisions in my family and my education. My brother and I liked action figures, but we also played with barbies in my grandparents' basement. When we played make-believe, I didn't hesitate to portray female characters. Contrary to popular belief, the more relaxed gender boundaries I grew up with did not make it any easier for me to understand women (nor was I treated particularly well by my male or female peers). But they did leave me more open to new ideas and appreciating content made by or for women and girls. MLP:FIM is just one example. I do want to add that traditional gender roles are not limited to the West and were firmly in place long, LONG before Western culture as we know it existed. The majority of men tend to be providers, competitors, and decision-makers, while the majority of women tend to be supporters and caretakers. This is not a coincidence. It hasn't been common in most human societies for thousands of years just because men are big meanies. That said, I don't adhere blindly to tradition either. You don't have to fulfill a certain role just because you're a man or a woman. I don't get why some guys like to wear dresses and makeup and stuff like that, but I don't hold it against them. Be the kind of person you are comfortable with. I can get on board with this idea.
  17. Acquiesce by HoofBitingActionOverload, a really good short PinkieDash fic. Where Your Heart Is by Cloudy Skies, a really good long PinkieDash fic. Parting Words by RealityCheck. Twilight finally snaps under the burden of Celestia's ambiguous "tests" resulting in an epic verbal confrontation. Written at the start of Season 3 and even more poignant now. Pinkie Watches Paint Dry by AbsoluteAnonymous. Existential fun with Pinkie Pie! Anthropology by JasonTheHuman. The novel that started the whole Lyra fandom, more or less. And a heck of a great story. :comeatus: The Best Night Ever by Capn Chryssalid, where Prince Blueblood becomes caught in a Groundhog Day-style time loop. The day he keeps reliving? The disastrous Grand Galloping Gala. One of the best ponyfics EVER written.
  18. Guess which team is kicking the most flank so far? 14 votes! When somepony tries to block, we'll show them THAT WE ROCK!!! Yes...but, um, we should probably finish our shopping before the competition starts. Oh, right. Er, what are these...things again? They're called fruit, Iron, and they're very good for you.
  19. I could really go for some tacos right about now.

  20. And let's go live to the Ponydential Debates, where these five villains will argue their case for being elected leader of the free *smirk* human world. KING SOMBRA: RRRRRRR...GROOOOOWWWR...CRYSTALSSSSSS...I mean...HUMAAAAAANSSSSS...GRRRRRRRR...MY...HUMAN...SLAAAAAAAVES. Thank you, drive safe. CHRYSALIS: I shall overrun your nation with a swarm of parasitic demons who will feed on your every positive emotion until you all are drained of love...but deep down, I'm really just a nice country girl at heart. Presumably. Where did I come from again? DISCORD: On one claw, I make chocolate rain. But on the other paw, I can't be trusted or depended on and I screw around with physics for the LULZ. TIREK: Y'know, it's hard to say. Some bronies, like Tails for example, have not really sat down and watched me yet. He's a little apprehensive of the implications of the Season 4 finale. I'll tell you one thing: I'm big. And not very nice. And did I mention big? Oh yes, one more thing: Tails wishes I looked like this instead. NIGHTMARE MOON: The night...will last...FOREVERRRR! But, seriously. Outside of that hyperbole, I really just want love and appreciation. I never did any lasting harm to anypony. The only one I had a beef with was Celestia, and really, can you blame me? Well, I'm convinced. They'd all be disastrous Presidents, but Nightmare Moon, least so. I vote her.
  21. Very true. I don't follow the EQG movies but I have seen some of Sunset in the comics. She was an entitled egomaniac. Not like Twilight at all. One of the things I like about Twilight is her lack of an ego, and the fact that she gets no satisfaction from drawing attention to herself or putting others down. Plus she's cute and intelligent. I couldn't hate a character as good as her. That said, she is about #5 or 6 if I had to rank the Mane 6 ponies. I do like her, I just don't particularly like the situations she's been put in. Her character, I mean the real sense I have of who she is--is not something I can reconcile with "princess," "wings," "most powerful pony alive," "lives in a castle now." That's not the Twilight that I knew, the one that drew me into the show a few years ago when I watched the first episode and decided to give this whole weird pony kid's show a chance. So I still like canon Twilight, just not quite as much as I used to. Unicorn Twilight, I adore. Just my 2 bits.
  22. Rock Candy? A few other names I thought up... Vinyl Scratch & Cheerilee: School of Rock Cheese Sandwich & Ms. Harshwhinny: Office Party Princess Luna & Button Mash: Equestria Gamers Flitter & Cloud Chaser: The Pegasisters Any ideas for Trixie and Discord?
  23. I think we can do without personal remarks in here, can't we?
  24. Well, that's just it. We can talk all day about facts but it's hard to explain an intangible. It's a subjective term that the gaming community will never agree on the meaning of, kind of like "hardcore/casual gamer." Do those things really exist outside of personal opinion? I don't know, but I do know video games were much more relevant to me when they felt fresh and original and the systems weren't being bundled with a lot of extra features I didn't need.
