Yeah, lots of people are just running on autopilot, wasting time. What's that got to do with working for the man? You think if big business shut down people would suddenly find meaning in their lives? The two things aren't related.
Maybe they would. Who knows. I mean, if Walmart shut down and all of the people working that underpaying bullshit were out of that job, they could potentially find some kind of enlightenment to what makes them HAPPY and not just what strictly sustains them.
I'm pretty sure they can do that without getting fired. They can probably do it better, not having to worry about having utilities cut off. Durden's putting a gun to Raymond's head makes for a fun watch, but in real life situations of extreme stress are less than inspiring.
