I forgot just how bad Resident Evil 6 was. That was a dark time for Capcom indeed.

RE6 was an incredibly poor amalgamation of so many gameplay mechanics and ideas that Capcom desperately tried to fit into one package and that simply didn't work. It tried to be this modern action-heavy third person shooter with branching stories in multiple campaigns. Instead it was 3 (+1 DLC) campaigns that all suffered from unsatisfying gameplay, terrible writing, cringe-inducing action setpieces, a plethora of poorly done QTE's, an unemorable soundtrack, a pathetic upgrade system (especially when compared to RE4 and 5) and laughable enemies. The core gameplay just feels wrong, having no impact in its gunplay and almost no satisfying feedback. That is nuts considering that RE4 has some of the most satisfying gameplay in anything ever. Even the divisive RE5 had infinitely more going for it than 6. My friend had never played it and he is wanting to experience most of the RE games as I introduced them to him. At this point we are simply playing through RE6 for the laughs it can bring. That's all it has really, laughable moments when the game is trying to be so serious and emotional at times. The mercenaries mode is alright for what it is, but at that point you might as well go back to 4 and 5 for that AND a good game on top of that.
It is nuts to think of how much of a downfall this game was for Capcom, then they come back all the way with something like RE2 remake which is an incredible game. Haven't played RE7 myself so I can't comment on that one.
