  1. Heya! My contact name is nikki-layne Feel free to add me! I LOVE talking about music, but I also enjoy just about any sort of conversation in general. :3
  2. I like this! It's obviously a sad and painful piece and I really relate to the meaning. I've always been of the opinion that the best art is made from the inspiration of some kind of pain, and this poem only reaffirms that notion for me. Good work, man!
  3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRMcjkY3J7w Take My Hand (Nikki-Layne Remix).mp3 A song made by my friend Pon3fy, and remixed by myself. I hope you like it!! Please, if you have any opinions on it, let me know! I live for feedback!!
  4. So, I decided to make a remix of Feather's absolutely beautiful rendition of Mad Mares by Ember. I'd really like to hear some opinions on it! https://soundcloud.com/nikki-layne/mad-mares-nikki-layne-remix
  5. Stellar review, DusK! I'm thrilled (and a bit shocked) to have my music featured on your blog! You most certainly will be hearing more from me in the future! Cheers, Nikki-Layne
  6. Brony music producer here, I'd love to help out as an alpha tester
  7. Sorry, bro. There isn't any one video tutorial that can teach you how to make dubstep. Or, I just haven't found it yet. Everything I know how to do I learned either from experimentation, or from trying to imitate something someone else did in a song. Just keep trying, you'll get the hang of it eventually.
  8. I make all sorts of EDM using FL Studio. Here's an example of my best work https://dl.dropbox.com/u/86314533/Eden.mp3 Let me know what you think! I'd love to get your opinion!
  9. Alright! First critique!! Here I goooooooooooo!! First off, your piece has some very well composed melodies. The piano is both well written and well mixed. The only thing I'd change about the piano is the little build that occurs twice in the song. That kind of build is better suited for percussive elements, and it doesn't really lead into anything. If you're going to build tension like that, I think it's best if you follow through with something that releases tension, not just more build up. Second, your drums are a bit weak. I'd recommend turning them up a tad. Also, your clap sample could really use some reverb. Other than that though, they sound fine. The actual rhythms used fit the song quite well. Finally, your overall song structure flows well from one idea to the next, but seems rather ill-defined. I'd recommend putting in more transitional effects to help define each section of the song. Overall, I really like this piece! But then again, I'm a sucker for piano-driven music. XP I hope this helps!
  10. Hello, everypony! My name is Nikki, and I'm here to help those who seek feedback and constructive criticism on their music. Simply post a link to whatever song you want critiqued, and I will reply with an in-depth analysis of what I think of it, as well as what I think you could do to improve it. Please keep in mind though, I am by no means a music professional, and most of what I say will be my own opinion. Though, I will try to remain as neutral as I can. Just take everything I say with a grain of salt, okay?
  11. Please do! I'd love the opportunity to do the mixing for you. But, that doesn't mean you can't do it on your own as well, for practice Plus, you could even just put your own work on youtube if you like your own mixing better! ^^
  12. Founding of Ponyville = Birth of Christ Seems legit. But for real though, I really enjoyed this one. I especially like the way in which you used and manipulated the samples from the show. Very well done, in my opinion.
  13. Picked out? I compose all my own beats from scratch But I have not started composing this one yet. I still need the vocals. Ooh. I know how that goes, man. I used to tend to the ovens at a fast food pizza place. That stupid thing practically cooked my face and throat every day. :/Anyway, good luck on recording the vocals.
  14. You don't need to be able to sing to rap. Rapping is just speaking with rhythm and flow. But if you can't really rap either, I know a good few brony rappers who might be interested in spittin' your verses. I'll see if any of them are interested. Either way, I'll let you know what happens within the next day or so.
  15. Is that really you singing? I only ask because you sound phenomenal! The only thing that had me thinking that this isn't the actual vocals for the song was the mixing. Would you mind having someone else mix this for you? Cause if you don't, then I'd love to do it!
  16. You're kind of missing the point, TC. Music, especially vocal music, is all about expression, getting your feelings out there to be heard. It would completely defeat the purpose if everybody only wrote love and happiness. By discounting negative subject matter, you're trying to limit the range emotion that an artist can express, and limits are an artists worst enemy. It's fine that you prefer music with a positive message, but you should recognize that as your own taste, and not try to impose it on others. Doing so is nothing but intolerant. That being said, you're entitled to your opinion, and I respect it. Avaricious, love the lyrics! Do you have any way of recording the vocals? If you do, I'd love to produce an instrumental for it!
  17. Very well done! The only ways I can see this being better is if you were to use multiple tracks and/or a better microphone. Seriously, if you were to make a different track playing each instruments part, it would sound amazing! You should totally do that!.. that is, um.. if you don't mind..
  18. Sounds good, mate! No mistakes as far as I can tell. The ending made me laugh, it fits perfectly. The sound quality is killing me, though. Are you able to make .midi files? Cause, if you are, and if you'd be willing to send it to me, I'd gladly do the mixing and arranging for you to help you get a clearer sound.
  19. Yeah, dude. I completely know that feel. There's nothing worse than being limited by your (lack of good) software. Well, I can't wait to hear what you come up with using your new program!
  20. Quality stuffs, bro. You did a fantastic job on this! I was a bit skeptical when I first read the thread title, but this is really good! Just goes to show you, a well written song sounds good in any genre.
  21. Not bad, but not really geat either. It was well composed, but it felt like most of the song was building up to something that never came. About two minutes in I was thinking, "Man, the crescendo is gonna be sick!" But by the end of the song I was kind of dissapointed.
  22. I really like this! That being said, the mixing could really use some work. I recommend you turn down those basses and slap some reverb on that trumpet. What program did you use to make this?
  23. http://soundcloud.com/nikki-layne/colortwelve-nikki This is a collab I did with the incredibly talented Colortwelve. Sampled audio taken from my favorite episode: Hurricane Fluttershy. Let me know what you think!
  24. Nice to meet you, good sir. You say you married Fluttershy? Dang, there goes my life goal. Well, if it's not me, then I'm glad it's you. She deserves somepony with more beard than I could ever hope to achieve. Treat her well, Comrade! She deserves nothing but the best :')
  25. Oh, Celestia! That'd be a dream come true! Yeah, I get your point, and your point has me nearly shaking in excitement at the very thought!
