gaming Is the home console business viable for Nintendo?
Shanks replied to CastletonSnob's topic in Media Discussion
You are forgetting that the Wii while it had problems of its own was the best selling console of the previous generation due to expanding the gaming audience into casual gamers, appealing to the novelty of motion controls as well as appealing to parents and families and its cheap price point. With that said the Wii U started out with hardly any games though the same can be said of the Xbox One and Playstation 4. Nintendo is still way behind in third party but to their credit they seem to be making some effort to sort of catch up though they still have a very long way to go.Nintendo is a company full of contradictions on the one hand they are a bit ahead in some ways with willing to experiment with things like motion controls but on the other hand they are behind in as you have said online and infrastructure. This didn't matter as much during the previous generation but this one game annalist made a good point, and that is that the same casual gamers and families that Nintendo attracted with the Wii are the type of gamers that are less likely to go out and buy a new console in the first place. Nintendo hasn't given them much reason to buy the Wii U and as a result they weren't able to hold onto them but were with the Nintendo 3DS which is successful no only with them but also some of the more "core" gamers. Part of this is due to the fact that the Wii U didn't have that many games but some of their recent announcements are quite promising especially Zelda U. But it seems like Nintendo overplayed their hand with the family and casual gaming audience and gained a reputation for being a "kiddy" console which is somewhat of an exaggeration but not totally unfair. Nintendo's stategy of broadening its audience was sound but it seems to have also forgotten some of the gamers who have been loyal to them for years. To make a very long story short YES but Nintendo needs to change a lot of its business practices. Nintendo is both behind and ahead at the same time, they seem to be willing to experiment with things like motion controls but seem a bit more reluctant to update their approach to things like online play which is starting to catch up with them. -
What did you think of characters before you were a brony?
Shanks replied to Hocus Pocus's topic in Sugarcube Corner
When I thought of ponies I mostly thought of the G1 toyline that my pony crazy cousin had almost everyone of you could possibly think of so finding out that there was a reboot didn't surprise me but its newfound audience was a surprise to me. Back when my friend was trying to get me to watch the show he showed me a bunch of artwork and it was quite good one of the first ones he showed me was this comic where Celestia tells Cadence and Shining Armor to spread love throughout Equestria and Shining Armor gives a wicked smile after his mind just went into the gutter. I didn't think much of either of them my thoughts were typical princess+cute boy "prince" and my initial assumption of them was partially correct. It was actually Discord that got me really curious and ultimately convinced me to watch. I loved Discords design and was actually impressed with the skill shown in a lot of the artwork I was shown. -
Fish and chips for me too, I like fish in general I like the texture of fried fish and of course there are the "chips".

I can kind of see your point but if it wasn't for people pirating episodes by putting them on sites like Youtube than many of us wouldn't have been able to watch it in the first place. Discovery Family or the Hub as it was once known as is one of those extra channels that is not offered in a basic cable package and even basic cable is a complete and total ripoff. And as others have pointed out it is not available in every region and for some ungodly reason there are some differences between US and other regions media playback standards which I honestly think shouldn't even exist. When I first watched the show I watched it on youtube and then the Hub/Discovery Family and later started buying the DVD's and I am probably not the only person who has done this.

Say Something Bad About your Favorite Episode
Shanks replied to Moved to Elsewhere's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Apple Family Reunion: I loved seeing Bab's return but there wasn't as much of her in the episode as I was hoping for and though they gave that hint with the shooting stars which the writers have confirmed is supposed to represent Applejacks dead parents they still haven't said that definitively in the show. I guess they could only fit so much of each Apple Family member so I could kind of understand the former but this idea that kids shows can't deal with death is so not true, Hey Arnold, Rugrats and a few others have done a great job of it. -
That is true that free speech dosen't mean free from repercussions but that dosen't change the fact that some employers are taking things too far. 40% of employers are now checking social networking sites of their employees and some even requiring employees to give them their social media passwords which while incriminating yourself online isn't a good idea is still extremely creepy and a violation of the 4th amendment. What employees do on company premises, company accounts and in their name is their business but anything outside that isn't. People often forget just how in bed big business and big government truly are there really isn't much of a distinction at this point if you ask me. Maybe some but at what price? Such restrictions require giving the government a greater degree of power which history especially recent history has shown is a bad idea due to the inevitable abuse of power that will result. The problem is a lot of things that people are offended by could simply be called "bullying" and censored as opposed to actual bullying which is indeed a serious problem but one that will always be present to a certain degree and cannot be solved by government.

Mane 6 have just been shown in a Super Bowl cheer ad!

It depends on what I am playing at the moment, lately it has mostly been my 3DS and Wii U but my Playstation 3 has also gotten plenty of use and my Playstation 4 has gotten a bit of use as well.

Have you ever been on the newspaper/tv?
Shanks replied to iDashingRainbow's topic in General Discussion
Yes a couple of times, the first time was in 1996 when my Mom gave my Dad one of her kidneys and the newspaper article was about that and the family banding together to take care of 10 year old me and my 8 year old brother at the time. And the other one was when I was in high school and was about children and teens on the Autism spectrum if I remember correctly. And I was on the local news once years back when I went to summer camp when I was a kid. -
Discord, there is no shortage of chaos but much of that is a result of greed. Discord even before his reformation did do some bad things but was motivated more by having a laugh often at the expense of others than any true malevolence. That is not to say a president Discord wouldn't have its downsides but at this point even Snips and Snails would make a better president than the current one or the one before him.

What makes the MLP:FiM fandom stand out from other fandoms?
Shanks replied to Odyssey's topic in Sugarcube Corner
-The brony fandom is not the only one to get hate but it is the only one I am aware of where people will automatically assume someone is a gay or a pedophile just for being a part of it and I don't just mean trolls who will just use those as cheap insults. -The brony fandom is the only one I am aware of that has such a significant portion of it that is obsessed with what people jack off to, that is really one of the things that irritates me about this fandom is the insane amount of white knights. -It has made a lot of people question the arbitrary gender roles in society which has been met with some resistance which is one of the main reasons for the assumptions of homosexuality and pedophilia. -
Some pacman Super Mario Bros 3 Zelda A Link to The Past (I am playing this one again right now actually)

SOS to anyone who can help me with finding a song composer
Shanks commented on PROJECT: Simon's blog entry in Simon Teemo
There are 2 potential candidates I am aware of, Igor Stravinsky wrote a piece called Pastorale and Beehovens 6th Symphony is also called the "Pastorale Symphony". Interestingly enough both that and Beethovens 5th symphony were both first performed on the same night with Beethoven opting for his gentler and more serene 6th played first to prepare the audience for his more intense 5th symphony. -
Does Maud Pie have Aspergers?
Shanks replied to Rarity Paige Belle's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
It is often not the same even in the same person at different points in their lives, most people can't tell I have Autism today but it was a very different story in the past. In my early childhood years I had severe sensory issues, had language delays and would throw tantrums at the slightest provocation. In my teen years I was highly intelligent but had extreme difficultly interpreting social cues and was often frustrated and confused at all the various unwritten social rules and in many cases went out of my way to rebel against them. I was also highly emotionally unstable and would often use intimidation and violence which is something I am not proud of but did overcome. I still have some challenges, I still occasionally get sensory overload and can sometimes miss certain social cues even though I seem to get most of them but have come a long way. There are certain moments where I don't say much or even anything at all not because I am afraid of how anyone will react but because I just don't feel like it is necessary for me to say anything at that particular moment and this is coming from a guy can be quite opinionated and outspoken at times so it is entirely believable that it could be the same for Maud. Those are signs of introversion though is the case for many on the Autism spectrum is certainly not unique to them or others with neurological differences. -
This kind of reminds me of an episode of the Flintstones where Fred lies about something and this carbon copy of himself that only he can see and hear lives with him and won't leave him alone until he admits that he can't live with himself. Dating a girl with my exact personality sounds like it might be a good thing and it certainly would have its advantages like having the same values and a rather interesting sex life if things got that far (my list of fetishes and kinks is a fairly long one) but could also have a few downsides. I am one of the most stubborn people I know and though it is not nearly as bad as it used to be I do have a temper so any arguments we have could get very ugly very fast especially because neither one us would want to back down.

My Dad used to play a lot of doo wop/mo town/oldies music on the radio and at least half of them were love songs really good love songs. One of my favorites out of these is My Girl by The Temptations.

Your Favorite Subject In Middle School and High School
Shanks replied to Shine Racer's topic in General Discussion
History and band for both, I find it really interesting how different people lived at different times and what we can learn from it so much so that I am currently studying to become a history teacher. Band in both middle and high school got me to express my creative side but in the jazz band in high school I got to do that and perform in concerts in some cool places. -
web Your reaction to "Love Letters to Richard Dawkins"
Shanks replied to CosmicHooves's topic in Media Discussion
I may not be a fan of Dawkins but this is still hilarious, if I were to send an e-mail to Dawkins it would have quite a bit more substance than "stop being gay and stupid." -
Out of the ones listed I am going to have to say the 60's with the 50's not that far behind them. Doo wop, the Beetles, lots of great rock songs and many more reasons of course if the 40's were on this list I would probably pick that. Overall though I would have to say it is a bit of a toss up between the Classical Era (Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn) and the early 20th century with rise of rag time, jazz and blues.

movies/tv Do you agree that boomerang sucks now
Shanks replied to Metallic Strings's topic in Media Discussion
I have noticed that the amount of good shows on Boomerang is starting to go down, I hope this is temporary and not part of their "rebranding" because if it is than I might lose interest in Boomerang like I have in Cartoon Network.- 21 replies

Big Mac isn't "ruined" he is just underutilized which is a real shame. Apparently early on the writers came up with a Big Mac episode but Hasbro said no which is kind of lame but maybe they will change their minds later. Big Mac is an interesting contrast to the opinionated Applejack and Granny Smith and largely immature Applebloom that I would like to see explored a bit more.

It was my very first post actually in my introductory thread and it was Radiance64 and Nessie who brohoofed it.

He may be right that there are estrogen mimickers such as BPA in the environment and there are some subliminal messages in entertainment but sometimes a show is just a show and this is an example of that. The owl is indeed an illuminati symbol but it is also a symbol of knowledge that has been used by numerous cultures and civilizations for thousands of years and they likely intended the owl symbol for the latter rather than the former. We can say this and the fact that liking a show has very little to do with ones masculinity femininity or sexual preferences but someone like this has already made up their mind and will not listen no matter what. It is just another close minded asshole who thinks he knows everything so I believe the phrase "don't feed the trolls" applies here.

Complications from girdles usually happen from wearing them repeatedly over a long period of time which Big Mac probably wouldn't do though the too tight part is probably accurate. There are all sorts of ways Big Mac could have gotten injured but from the looks of things it is most likely a broken rib.
