  1. Spanish is a useful language if live in the Southwest like I do and it is also fairly easy to learn. German is also fairly easy and has much more in common with English than people realize. Italian is a great language to learn if you are interested in music as a lot of musical terms are in Italian and is great if you an opera fan as well.
  2. No, I probably would have gotten into ponies even if 9/11 never happened. I don't think it is 9/11 specifically that gets people into the show but one thing I have noticed about a significant portion of the fandom is that a significant portion of the fandom has said that the show has helped them with depression and that one of the main reasons they like the show is because of its positive messages. I myself have admitted that it has helped me a bit with my depression, sure it hasn't done anything dramatic by saving my life but I think the brony phenomenon would have happened even if 9/11 never did. People have been going through hard times long before 9/11 and I can see how some of those people would want a positive influence in their lives. On the other hand though correlations does not always equal causation, there are plenty of people that may be going through hard times but got into the show and stay into the shows for reasons completely unrelated to that and there are plenty of perfectly happy and well adjusted people who get and stay into the show as well.
  3. Powerpuff Girls: Lauren Faust worked on both and it clearly shows, the girls have similar personality types to some of the mane 6 and several ideas that were once used in Powerpuff Girls were later used in MLP. Hey Arnold: Hey Arnold is also a show that has a lot of moral lessons to it without being too preachy about it or dumbing them down. Because Hey Arnold also wasn't a "girls show" in addition to being a "kids show" (you got to love double standards) it was also able to tackle a few mature topics that MLP are far less likely to take on.
  4. At my current job I make $15 an hour with some great benefits and still haven't reach top pay (it somewhere in the low to mid 20's) yet I am miserable. It is not that I am not grateful for what I do have but there is so much bullshit I have to put up with on my job and of course my injuries keep piling up which combined with the stress from the job is destroying me physically, mentally and emotionally it got so bad last year that it nearly drove me to suicide. I am strongly considering becoming a history teacher which is a profession which dosen't pay much at all but is one that I am very likely to enjoy because it is a subject I am passionate about and I would have the opportunity to make a difference in peoples lives. That is a goal that will take a while though so luckily I have some plans that if they succeed will make the rest of my stay in the grocery industry much more bearable which are described in this recent blogpost I made. http://mlpforums.com/blog/456/entry-13028-receiving-some-potential-good-news/ Money is great but what is the point of having it if you can't even enjoy it? I just want enough to where I am independent, can support myself and a family if I should choose to have one and maybe be able to get a few extras every now and then.
  5. It depends on how far and how fast you are going to do it. If you remove all or most character flaws than they become Mary Sues but if you don't have character growth by them overcoming challenges than the show becomes stale and repetitive. There needs to be some kind of balancing act and what it is depends on the character in question and the overall direction of the story.
  6. With the reactions of some of the people here I thought it was a gore pic/fic or something but it really wasn't that bad at all. I have seen way way way worse than that, if you think this is shocking than you haven't seen the worst the internet has to offer, not by a long shot.
  7. Fluttershy: Sensui (Yu Yu Hakusho) and Pein/Nagato (Naruto), both are tragic villains whose motivations for what they do are often based on the atrocities of humanity towards one another. Sensui was a former spirit detective who defected and wanted to wipe out humanity after seeing the Chapter Black tapes which chronicled all of the atrocities humanity has ever committed. Pein believed that in order for war to end that everyone must know pain and suffering. It is difficult to really accurately describe his own thoughts actually but it does stem from great sadness. Twilight: Magneto (Marvel Comics), a classic example of good intentions gone horribly wrong with questionable actions. Twilight would probably understand his reasons for distrusting human society but would probably question his desire for separatism and instead favor Professor X's philosophy of peaceful coexistence. those are the major ones I can think of right now if I think of anymore I might add them later.
  8. Given the chance I of course would, I wouldn't care what anyone else thought and I doubt Applejack would either.
  9. Actually it would be the entire backroom of the store which is actually not all that small or cramped. I would say by grocery store standards it is probably a mid sized back room. It is large enough to where it can fit multiple pallets of product both on the floor and up in the rafters. As Receiver one thing I will be responsible for should I get the job is using the power jack to both bring down and put back up pallets of product from the rafters. There is a sub room within the back room called the Receivers cage with a computer and several order guns which will be my go to place for supplies as well as to input the various information I need to in the computer in addition to being able to look up the buy sheets in the computer so I can probably plan things out.
  10. This will be quite the rare blogpost from me, one where I talk about work without going into rant mode. As those of you who read my blog posts know I am a dairy clerk at a grocery store, not a fate I want to be lifelong but one I am stuck with at least for now. But I am being presented with an opportunity I may never get again if I do not seize it. I am strongly considering becoming a Receiver and because the current Receiver at my store is likely going to be retiring soon I have the best chance I may ever have to eventually take his place once he does decide to retire. For those that don't know, a Receiver is a back room manger. The Receiver is responsible for checking in all loads that come into the store during their shift, they count everything that comes in and log it into the computer. They are also responsible for signing in and out all delivery truck drivers and vendors/merchandisers as well as being responsible for all mark downs as well as keeping the back room clean and organized at all times. It is not an easy job by any means but it is one that I believe will greatly benefit me for the following reasons. 1. I will no longer have to deal with customers: I will be confined to the backroom all day which means that while I will have to deal with vendors and other employees I know exactly how to handle them. Because my current job also has me as a backup checker I often have to deal with the public which because I am the worst checker in that whole store results in a lot of frustration on both my part as well as the customers and a few misunderstandings that aren't my fault but still occasionally get me in trouble. 2. I will be significantly less likely to get another injury: because being a Receiver is much more mental than it is physical the odds of me getting another knee injury will go down to practically zero. 3. Better hours: I was at my happiest when I was first promoted and had 4AM shifts and with me being a Receiver I can have those sort of shifts once again so I can get work out of the way and have the rest of my day. My days off will also be fairly consistent with them nearly always being Wednesday and Sunday. With that kind of schedule I could plan a lot more during the day and get much more done. My hours will go up but despite that I will be able to make much more efficient use of my day. It is not something I am taking lightly and I of course am formulating backup plans in case it dosen't work out but I believe I will be much happier in such a position and better able to achieve my more long term goals.
  11. “When you base your expectations only on what you see, you blind yourself to the possibilities of a new reality.”~Zaheer (Avatar Legend of Korra)

  12. People have different opinions, some are nice about it and some aren't some give good reasons while others just hate on something just to hate on it. This is probably the millionth thread on the subject of alleged brony negativity and while I am not going to deny that it in fact exists I think it is seriously overblown. Not every negative opinion about the show is necessarily being "negative", it is simply disagreeing with certain aspects of the show or not liking certain episodes. I myself have criticized certain episodes and concepts in the show and will continue to do so as I see fit, it dosen't mean I dislike the show it just means that I may not like or disagree with those aspects of it.
  13. Eeeeeeeyup, I have pretty much admitted it a million times over so I don't have much else to say other than Applejack is sexiest pony.
  14. Zaheer (Avatar the Legend of Korra) and Two Face (Batman) Like Zaheer I have strong opinions that are consider way outside the political mainstream and am willing to break a few rules if necessary. Of course the difference between me and him is that he uses violence to achieve his goals and I do not. And like Two Face I have long struggled between my light and dark sides though with Two Face his dark side seems to be winning the war even if his light side wins the occasional battle. The fact that he needs to flip a coin to make major decisions tells just how conflicted he really is.
  15. He is talking about the episode like it is worst thing ever, it is not the greatest episode ever but it wasn't that bad. With that said though Polsky handled it fairly well. The questioner could have worded things way better than he did, it just sounded like "this episode sucks because it sucks" which isn't constructive criticism but mere whining.
  16. You are taking this a bit too seriously, I can understand certain fanworks not being to your personal taste but you have to keep in mind that these fanworks do not effect the show in any way. The great thing about fanfics and fanart is that they can be used as opportunity to do certain things that you wouldn't normally be able to do in the show, it is like having several sub cannons separate from the show cannon.
  17. I am not against electronic music but the way it is being used in many cases seems really lazy and much of it sounds the same. The "song" posted in the OP just sounds like random noise to me. If things like the "song" posted in the OP are the future than I prefer the past thank you very much.
  18. My own list is relatively short but I would say the most important thing is values and by that I don't mean the kind where you judge and condemn everyone that you disagree with. What I mean I want someone who cares about someone other than themselves, I don't want to be involved with someone who is self absorbed and just goes about their merry way like the whole world revolves around them. I am not expecting perfection here because nobody has that, but I want that sense that they care about something bigger than themselves. I don't expect perfection, I am not looking for Mother Teresa here but it is what is inside that matters most to me.
  19. When the song "So Happy Together" came on at work I couldn't stop laughing because it reminded me of this commercial.

  20. This top 10 list sure gets me in the mood to play some Mario

    1. Darker

      Darker

      Ah, Watchmojo, you're so random.

  21. Push: Rob Van Dam; he deserves much better than being a jobber for his return. Hire: Kaval; that guy had so much potential but he got so screwed. Fire: Bo Dallas; look up the word overhyped in the dictionary and this guys picture is in it and his rather annoying "inspirational" persona only makes it worse.
  22. Carrots and Spinach both raw please and potatoes which are great boiled, barbequed, baked or fried.
  23. That may not have been the best decision on his part, but that still dosen't change the fact that this a major dick move on their part. Whether he put his face in the videos the fact is nobody forced these assholes to watch these clopfic readings. Yes, this is a cautionary tale because I might write some clopfics myself is one of the main reasons why I usually don't reveal my last name on the internet.
  24. I would have to say Capicolla which for those of you that don't know is an Italian cured ham. It is kind of expensive so it is an occasional treat. What is more common for me though is roast turkey or black forest ham.
