Applejacks parents theory(new episode spoilers)
Mister Jack replied to Anadu Kune's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Sibsy showed up in a livestream to confirm that AJ's parents are dead. Dead dead dead. Not missing: dead. That pretty much settles it. Sad as that is, it gives a lot of new depth to AJ's character. It explains why she is the way she is now. Hell, although this thought really depresses me, it might explain why Big Mac is the way he is too. -

I liked everything about this episode except for one thing: the song. Nothing against AJ or her singing voice. Both are lovely. I just hate square dance music. Plus, the lyrics made me cringe: We raised this barn, we raised this barn Yes we did Together we sure raised this barn Yes we did Yeesh, that's bad no matter how you look at it. But now that I've gotten the bad out of the way, I can move on to the good. Babs Seed was much more likable this time around, which is a given of course since she's no longer a bully but it's just nice to see her actually getting along with Apple Bloom. Braeburn didn't do too much but just seeing him at all was more than welcome. Applejack herself was pretty adorable in this episode, and it's nice that she's the one to learn a lesson for once. It's been a while since she's actually done that. I'm sure I don't have to point out this, either: The shooting stars most definitely represent Applejack's parents, meaning they are indeed dead. This was confirmed by Sibsy on her twitter.

You wake up one morning to find yourself in Equestria. You don't know how you got there, and as far as anyone knows you can't get back home to the world of humans. You need to find a way to support yourself. Fortunately, the job market in Equestria is much better than it is on Earth, and as long as you're willing to learn, you can be trained for just about anything. What do you want to do with your life? Who do you want to work with or for? Also, there's a catch. You are still human. You cannot fly or use unicorn magic, but on the plus side you get to keep your hands.

movies/tv The most emotional you ever got about a cartoon
Mister Jack replied to Silverwisp the Bard's topic in Media Discussion
I'll mention something that hasn't already been said repeatedly by everyone else. There's a claymation movie called Mary and Max on Netflix right now. It's about a man with Asperger's in America who becomes pen pals with a lonely 8 year old girl in Australia. There's really no one moment that comes to mind because the entire movie is one huge tearjerker but if I had to pick something it might be this line: "You are my best friend. You are my only friend." -

Ungrateful plebes. Has Celestia not been good to you? Has she not always put your happiness and prosperity above her own? To speak such heresy would be a crime punishable by death were your princess not so merciful. Thank your lucky stars that milady continues to display such unfathomable patience for your blasphemy.

I think a lot of the people complaining about "pandering" don't really know what the word means. Why exactly is having episodes about things we wanted to see suddenly a bad thing? Is this somehow going to put off the actual kids from watching the show? They don't give a shit, people. Spongebob is currently in its ninth season and lemme tell ya, it's gotten pretty awful. It doesn't matter. It's popular and kids just want to see new episodes. You could make an MLP episode about Trixie and Sethisto of all things and kids would still watch it. They're much easier to please. DHX is developing character and story in new and entertaining ways. I know that's a matter of opinion, but when I see people say that the show is being ruined by pandering I can't help but wonder how many of them genuinely feel that the stories, characters, and jokes have declined in quality and how many of them just see Trixie reappear and suddenly think the sky is falling.

So are the Wonderbolts just showponies or do they actually serve as some kind of elite air force? I mean, Spitfire has a military uniform on with a bunch of medals and we did see them try (and fail) to fight the giant Spike in season 2. They also seem to assist in government work by overseeing the water tornado in Hurricane Fluttershy. Seems like a lot of responsibility for a bunch of stuntponies.

We should have a stickied thread for the official comic. That's pretty much it. Mobile post

Is there seriously no one talking about the MLP comic or is there a second thread I missed?

Celestia being defeated by Nightmare Moon is debatable. She didn't even show up until the end of part 2. There's a good chance she could have beaten Nightmare Moon with brute force if she wanted to, but that wouldn't have helped Luna. And Discord, well, he's by far the most powerful magic user in the entire series. It's doubtful anyone or anything else in the rest of the show is ever going to reach his level. You can't have multiple villains who are that omnipotent. We don't know how Cadance was captured but since Chrysalis ended up beating Celestia I'll just go ahead and assume that she beat Cadance first. However, Cadance was still powerful enough to keep an entire empire shielded from Sombra, and the only reason it didn't work was because she eventually tired herself out. I'm betting Cadance is weaker than Luna and Celestia but as far as raw magic goes she still seems stronger than Twilight, if not necessarily more versatile. Something else from the premiere that should be remembered is that Celestia was testing Twilight's willingness to sacrifice her own interests for the greater good. What, pray tell, is she eventually going to be asked to sacrifice?

Twilight is the most powerful unicorn, but that's kinda balanced out by the fact that she is still in training and her spells have a tendency to backfire on her. I'm assuming that in order for her to ascend to alicornhood she has to get over this. And I don't think anyone feels they'll write Twilight out of the show. At least, I don't. In fact, I think the opposite. She'd get way more focus than she's already getting. The Elements of Harmony work as well as they do because they are, in a sense, all equal parts of one whole. Twilight's unicorn magic may be stronger, but her friends make up for that with their own unique abilities. If Twilight ends up with the powers of all three pony races, it's less like six equals combining into one unit and more like five planeteers giving their power to Captain Planet. And this is coming from someone who ADORES Twilight and thinks she is the best pony on the show. I love me some Twilight, but I don't want her to overshadow the others.

Here's why people don't like the idea of alicorn Twilight: Let's assume for the sake of argument that this rumor is 100% true and Twilight is permanently changed into an alicorn. This would seriously damage the show's dynamic because she would no longer be an equal amongst her friends. Right now we have two unicorns, two pegasi, and two earth ponies. It's a perfect balance. Not only would making Twilight an alicorn wreck that balance, but it would place her on a level above the other protagonists. It wouldn't be the Mane 6 but "Twilight and the Mane 5." In this show's universe, being an alicorn is a huge deal. It's highly unlikely that Twilight could go on living in the library as a normal pony if she became a supremely powerful being, and even if she did it would be rather jarring. It'd be like finding Superman working at a car wash. You know how in DBZ, once super saiyans were introduced all the other non-saiyan characters became totally useless and were left in the dust? I think something along those lines is why people are bothered by the prospect of alicorn Twilight. Luna, Celestia, and Cadance are far more powerful than any other pony in the show. Alicorns are practically a walking deus ex machina, so you have to find some excuse to not have them show up and instantly solve the plot's conflict (Celestia losing to Chrysalis, Cadance being forced to maintain a barrier). If they end up having to constantly do this with a main character, it would quickly get tiresome.

Is this the only thread for the official comic? I would be surprised because there's almost no discussion going on. For that matter, I NEED TO READ ISSUE 2 NOW. I don't own a nook and it's killing me to wait for the itunes version. If it's finished, why don't they just put the damn thing out? I can understand a delay in the physical one, but digital?
