  1. @TailsIsNotAlone, aw, thanks man!  I'm really glad to hear I left a positive impact somewhere.

I guess it's been almost seven years since I joined, and I'm happy that you guys are still going strong.  I know that I haven't been active in... years, but my memories are fond ones.  Some notable ones include the silliness that ensued from the Chaotic vs Lawful battle (#TeamLawful), banding together in the name of generosity for Making Christmas Merrier, and making friends in the few roleplays I participated in.

For most of my years in college this was the place I went to destress, and it made my life so much easier.  Thank you to the staff for keep these forums up and running, and thank you to the community for being here and being so accepting of those with the wish to join you.  Happy (belated) birthday, and congratulations!  We've done great things together; keep it up guys!

  2. Also, gonna let my newbie show, how to I update my signature?

Go to your profile page, then in the top right corner there should be a button that says, "Edit my Profile."  Click that and then click the tab on the lefthand side that says "Signature."  You should be able to update it from there.

Also, welcome!  Sounds like you're into light RPing, so I'll direct you towards the "Everfree Empire" section of the Roleplay World if you haven't already found it yet.  That's where a lot of the more casual RPs tend to take place.  Don't worry about being a bit rusty, they generally don't mind over there.  There's also often RPs there specifically tailored towards taking in newer RPers if that makes you more comfortable.  Just head over to the OOC section, find something that interests you, and you're good to go!  (Though you may first want to add any OCs you'll be using to the character database, as a link to your character's entry there is typically a requirement for joining.)

Of course, feel free to ask any questions!  Oh, and I think the following song is obligatory:

  3. Fully-deserved and the banter is 8/8

Really, that's it?  I'd go all the way and give it 5/7  ;)

On topic, I certainly don't mind a bit of messing with people; I've been guilty of doing it myself sometimes when I see it fit.  As others have said though, it should be done in moderation to avoid anyone getting hurt.

  4. Yay!  :pinkie:  Some of my earliest fond memories of the forums come from the 2012 charity drive, so I suppose that it's obvious that I'm super-excited that I get to be a part of it again!

Just a quick question: is there any particular preference as to where we make the donations?  Is it easier or does it involve less fees on your end if we make the donation through the BC Children's Hospital page?

  5. Well then....  I didn't expect that.  That was actually very well done!  I'll admit that there were a number of things that felt a little bit forced during the first half of the episode, but the end made up for it.  I was most impressed with how the CMC's cutie marks were dealt with.  To me, their special talents were obvious: Sweetie Belle sang, Scootaloo scootered, Apple Bloom... er... built stuff, I guess.  I have been screaming this at my screen for four and a half seasons.  Turns out I was wrong.  The above were talents certainly, but they weren't their special talents.  Not only that, but their true special talent, teaching others the meaning of their own talents, doesn't actually break up the CMC, but instead encourages them to continue!  I don't know about anyone else, but this twist caught me off guard in the best way possible.  Amy Keating Rogers deserves a cookie.

Overall, I think it was a great way to end the CMC's blank flank arc, and (I can't believe I'm actually saying this) I look forward to future episodes with them!

  6. Ocarina of Time water temple

    nuff said  :twi:

^This.  It wasn't until I got a strategy guide for the game that I finally got that one stupid key hidden in the chamber under that floating platform...

Also, the ice cave in Pokemon Gold was a freaking nightmare.  It took SO LONG for me to figure out the puzzle on the sliding ice.  I got through it eventually, but not until I mapped out the entire thing on grid paper.  When I came back to it years later in HeartGold it was significantly easier.

  7. so I've been Super Training this Ralts with a Naughty nature to get a Gallade since February of this year (the only reason why it is taking so long is because I keep quitting.) Fast forward several months later to this current day, and I am now realizing I've been training this Ralts with the wrong gender the entire time. This upsets me so. Anyone wouldn't happen to have a "Male" Ralts with a Naughty nature so I don't have to go through the whole process of egg hatching again? If not, I guess I could keep it, but how much would the Naughty nature effect Gardevoir?

Sorry, don't have the ralts for you, but I do have an alternative to Super Training that's significantly faster.  It's basically just normal EV training but utilizing hordes.  If you have the right items and pokerus, you're pretty much guaranteed to fully train a pokemon in around 20-40 minutes of light grinding.  Here's some guides if you're interested:

Basic guide and EV hotspots for X/Y: http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/a-guide-to-ev-training-with-hordes.3490052/

    EV hotspots for OR/AS: http://nuggetbridge.com/articles/ev-training-horde-hotspots-pokemon-omega-ruby-alpha-sapphire/

Hope this helps at least a little bit!

  8. I'm sort of disappointed that Zygarde's new forms don't maintain the Z-shape of the 50% form.  I thought that one of the coolest things about the gen 6 legendary trio was how they all had the vague shape their letters: X, Y, and Z.  Ah well, I'm still interested to see how they function in-game.

  9. Some friends and I out at the Park last Friday. I'm the big guy with the beard:

That giant blob sculpture is messing with my head   It looks like your group is standing right in front of it, but then there are people who are clearly further back than you who are also in front of it.  I'm not entirely sure what to make of it...

  10. What races would you like to see?

The standard pony races (minus alicorns; including them as a playable race sounds too much like giving stats to Cthulhu) seem to be the obvious choices.  Some others that might be neat are zebras, donkeys, mules (the half-elf of Equestria?), and maybe even griffons.

Would you prefer progession-style play(Making a character and leveling it up from 1-whatever), or one hitters(take a premade charactersheet/make a character, and just play one 3-4 hour session)?

I'm a sucker for the grand, epic story, so probably progression-style play.

What are THREE elements from the show that MUST be in the game? (Examples: silliness, puns, canon characters)

Innocence is my big one; lore and mystery would be my other two (those might actually be the same thing  :P )

Would you rather have an original character, or play a canon character?

Probably a canon character, but that's because I'm nor very skilled at making OCs.

How do you prefer your coffee? (We have an ongoing argument and I need to win)

    I don't drink coffee

    Optional questions:

Have you played pen and paper RPGs before?

Yes: D&D 3.5 up to 5e, some Pathfinder, and a bit of Burning Wheel, Shadowrun, Eclipse Phase, and Paranoia.

If you were to choose a system, what was easiest to play if you have played TTRPGs?

I thought that D&D 4e was pretty easy to pick up, though it helps that there are a lot of good online tools for it (ie, character creator).  It was also the system that my friends (who taught me how to play) knew best.

If you were interested in a Brony exclusive starter set, what would you like to see in it?

Artwork is always cool, as well as miniatures.  Heck, if the minis were good, I might get the starter set just for those  ^_^

  11. I was able to complete the dex in Red version, though I'll admit to using the Mew Glitch and a modified version of that same glitch to get mew and a couple of version-specific pokemon.  Haven't finished a dex since, but I will be attempting to finish the Kalos national dex soon.

  12. I won't be watching the World Championship, but my friends and I will be attending the Symphonic Evolutions performance in Boston tonight!  (I understand that the World Championship is also in Boston, but I don't really follow competitive Pokemon.)  I'm quite excited.  It's in an outside venue though, so I'm hoping it doesn't rain...  The performance will go on regardless, but staying dry would be nice.  In any case, I'm really looking forward to it!

  13. I think the best way to sum up my opinions on the episode is that I don't think it was the worst Spike episode.  It wasn't fantastic and it wasn't terrible, it was just... a Spike episode.  I'm glad that Spike was at least remotely competent; as he points out, he did manage to let Twilight have a fantastic nap, even if did eventually result in a coup.

Also, this is the second new episode that I've actually watched on a television and not streamed, so this episode has that going for it too.

  14. Fellow Octavia fans, I urge you to go to the following link and vote for Octavia to be the next WeLoveFine chibi figure!  At the current moment she's in second place and only 1% behind Applejack.

Just a heads-up, they do take some of your basic Facebook (or other social network) information in order to allow you to vote.  If you don't want your opinion automatically shared, (ie. if you're a closet brony) BE SURE TO UNCHECK THE "SHARE MY OPINION" BOX which is left checked by default.

Just gonna leave this here so that the Octavia fans are aware.

  16. Social life online?  Certainly.  Social life IRL?  Kind of, I guess.  I mean, I've attended a couple of Brony meetups in the Boston area, which is something that I obviously never would have done without the show/fandom.  Even though I haven't really made any close friends by going to them, I tend to be a person who would rather just stay in their room alone, so I suppose just going out of my way to attend a social event is a step in the right direction.

  17. :D

This episode vastly exceeded my expectations (which were admittedly not set very high).  Was it all just a bunch of fanservice and references?  Certainly, but it was still just so fun to watch!  They did very well with this episode in my opinion.  In fact, it's up there with my overall favorites, if only just because I had a really good time watching it!
