Longhaul Hoofer

Longhaul spent most of his life growing up in a small village in the shadow of Manehattan, and just east of New Hayven. His given name was Dusty Hoofer, mostly for the clouds of dust he'd raise when he played and ran around. His mother was a nurse, his father was a warehouse worker, and both wanted a better life for their foal. To that end, Longhaul was subjected to numerous hours of instruction designed to help him land a career that had possibility for advancement, both socially and in the course of employment. While many of these courses were enjoyable, he bristled at having to spend almost every hour in some form of school.

Longhaul loved being outdoors as much as possible, constantly exploring his surroundings. This would get him in quite a bit of trouble when he strayed too far from home on one of his expeditions. It was during one of these trips, for an elderly neighbor, that his cutie mark appeared – a wagon wheel with wings. This caused great distress to his parents, who constantly wished he would settle down and choose a more sensible, stationary, and more socially acceptable lifestyle. Holding several jobs throughout his life after school, Longhaul only felt his best when he started as a freight hauler, and chose to make it his career. He hasn't seen or spoken to his family since the day he announced this to his parents, who both requested that he leave home and not return until he chose a more “suitable” profession.

It took Longhaul a few years before he settled in to the career he seemed destined for. Through it all, he's been able to travel all over Equestria, seeing sights he had only previously read about or imagined. It was during these travels that he gained his nickname of Longhaul, and earned a reputation for his hard work and adherence to schedules and deadline delivery times.

Longhaul is wary of relationships, owing to a marriage that ended drastically and scarred him emotionally. He’s had a series of one-night stands and short-term relationships, but has never again made an effort to settle down with a special somepony.

Making friends never came easy to Longhaul, mostly because of his traveling. He does enjoy meeting and talking with other ponies, although he wonders if the others feel the same meeting and talking with him. It's for this reason that he will seldom, if ever, initiate a conversation.  Anypony that approaches him will be greeted courteously, although he will rarely take the lead in a conversation. 

He stands slightly taller than the average pony.  He has gray hair, and brown mane and tail, with a few wisps of gray making their presence known.  He has strong legs, and an average build, if slightly paunchy.
