Cutie Mark: A chemical beaker. It symbolizes science, thought, and perfection. Cogitus earned the Cutie Mark after years of planning and perfecting a single experiment and when he revealed the results to the Cloudsdale judges at a science fair, the cutie mark appeared.
Personality: A cynic by nature. Cogitus sees the flaws and shortcomings of any system, whether it be something as small as a farm tool or as big as a government. Because of this, Cogitus tries to find solutions to these problems. Once he gets going, Cogitus never stops. This proves to be a blessing and a curse as Cogitus has no restraint in what he considers a solution, no matter how immoral or criminal it may be.

Cogitus isn't one to be scared to voice his thoughts. He usually does so, even if it may hurt somebody's feelings or offend somebody. Just like his thinking, Cogitus has no restraints other than his own self-preservation and calculating judgement. In fact, even under threats of violence or threats in general, Cogitus still voices his thoughts. This alone drives away many higher class ponies who see him as a "rebel" and a "punk."

Some other flaws are that he's fairly volatile in what he considers solutions, scaring and driving away many ponies. He's also not a joking or fun loving pony and has a tendency to insult those who are, further driving away ponies.

Cogitus himself dislikes Equestria in general and looks towards history, specifically the Three tribes. He frequently mentions history in discussions involving matters political or philosophical.
Backstory: Cogitus was born in a small, unremarkable village to two Pegasus ponies. Cogitus was then known as Cloud Runner, his birth name. As a colt, Cogitus was fairly normal. He was more intelligent than the other children however. He had a more eccentric and forceful mind than others. Soon, Cogitus was a fairly popular colt in his quiet town and lived a fairly normal life and even won first prize in a science fair in Cloudsdale, earning his Cutie Mark.

When Cogitus graduated from his High School however, a parasprite invasion overtook his village. It was later found out that a single pony, one of Celestia's Royal Guards, lead the parasprites to the village on accident. Cogitus survived along with three other friends and walked hundreds of kilometers to Ponyville. Along the way, the other three broke off from the group from fights or simply wanting to explore.

After the ordeal, Cogitus saw how fragile and ineffective Equestria was. His forceful nature and intellect allowed him to excel at what he did but Cogitus never forgot the village's destruction.

Cogitus later moved to Cloudsdale and worked as a scientist in the Weather factory. His papers on weather and its uses to combat Everfree animals made him famous enough to appear in Celestia's court. There, after presenting his findings, Cogitus advocated that Equestria use his new inventions to stand militantly against all opposition and to equip the Royal Guards with them. Celestia refused. Before Cogitus left the Court, he stated, "Burn the flags and begin again."

From then on, Cogitus left Cloudsdale and back to Ponyville. He started to research the time of the Three Tribes and began his obsession with them and whenever called to Canterlot, advocated militant opposition to any threats on Equestria, even after constant rejections.
