Personality: Essence is as honorable as they come, she strives for equality and fairness wherever she can make it. She is always kind to those around her. But get on her bad side whether it be to her or someone else, and she will give you a piece of her mind verbally, or physically if necessary.<br /><br />However, her self esteem is very low. She does not think she is pretty, let alone worthy of life because she is not "normal". This often gets her into life threatening situations where she would gladly sacrifice her life for the greater good.<br /><br />Essence is also very good with foals. She always offered positive advice and played with them whenever they befriend her. However, their parental figures do not share the same outlook. This is due to bad rumors, Essence's line of work, and her curse that some think will spread to their foals. Despite this negativity, she tries to stay positive and respect the wishes of the parental figures by interacting with the foals as little as possible.<br /><br />Voice of choice: Rhona Mitra

Backstory: During the Nightmare Night celebration, Essence's parents were on an outdoor outing with a group of friends. Essence's mother suddenly went into labor even though she wasn't due for another 1-2 weeks. Out in the middle of a moonlit grass field and several miles from Ponyville, her mother and father had no choice but to deliver her out in the field.<br /><br />When her mother finally gave birth to her, the Unicorns in the group felt her life force slowly diminish, she was dying. In a panic, the Unicorns quickly devised a way to save her with magic. In a conjoined effort, they attempted to cast a preservation spell on Essence to keep her alive as they rushed back to Ponyville. <br /><br />Something "else" had intervened with the spell and caused it to do something other than intended. Instead of preserving her, it saved her life, but at a price. She was made blind and a cutie mark immediately appeared on her flank, the teal streaks in Essence's mane now glowed a brilliant aqua at night, but went back to normal during the day. Her parents did not know what to make of the whole event, but were glad that she was alive nonetheless.<br /><br />As the years went by, her parents finally figured out why she was born with that cutie mark. Even though Essence was visually blind, she was still able to see. The spell that was casted on her that night had caused her other 4 senses to be preternaturally enhanced.<br /><br />Many years later at the age of 19, Princess Celestia had heard about the blind pony that can see and sense things far better than the average pony. This sparked her interest and she decided to meet Essence in person. Princess Celestia was astounded by Essence's sensory ability and offered her a job in the Canterlot Rapid Response Organization. Overjoyed, she accepted the offer and moved to Canterlot.<br /><br />Princess Celestia introduced Essence to her sister, Princess Luna. Princess Luna was also impressed with her enhanced senses, but sensed something odd yes familiar about her, but wasn't sure what it was. As they roamed the Canterlot gardens chatting, the Princesses decided to take a small break and raise/set the moon/sun. When they turned their attention back to Essence, they were shocked by her appearance. No one had told Princess Celestia what happens to Essence when night time comes.<br /><br />Princess Luna put all of the pieces together and identified what it was that caused this, and what it did. The cause of her current state was by Nightmare Moon; she caused her mother to give birth prematurely so she could cast an influence spell on Essence. But due to certain magical alignments within the Unicorns channeling their spell, it caused Nightmare Moon's spell to transmute into something unintended. This spell caused her to go blind and give her preternaturally enhanced senses, and gives her moderate immunity to magic at night.<br /><br />Essence was bewildered by this new information and wasn't sure how to handle it. The Princesses assured her that everything was alright. After bidding the Princesses farewell, Essence took her letter of approval to the Canterlot Academy. There she would go through extensive training and learn how to use her abilities for her new position as a Tracker in the Rapid Response Organization.
