• Flaire, Aka Violetta Rose

    Somebody

    • Age: "Middle-aged"

      Gender: Female

      Species: Earth Pony

Appearance: Eye color: Reddish-purple. Sort of dark cranberry.

Coat: Plum with darker purple stripes. These are not zebra markings, but they do suggest an "exotic" background. She typically wears two staple pieces of jewelry: earrings and a beaded necklace. She prefers understated accessories, and would never be seen wearing diamonds--she considers them to be gaudy.

Mane: Short, very neatly trimmed to a sharp cutoff. Black with dark purple highlights. Has a heavily "slicked" appearance.

Tail: Same as mane, but two-tone. Medium length. Not quite as slick as mane, but still has a tendency stay in one piece, resisting strand separation.

Physique: Average height, somewhat stocky. Not overweight, but not skinny, either. Her natural build allows her to throw her weight around if necessary. When outfit shopping, she can always be found in the plus-size section.

Cutie Mark: Cutie Mark: A crossed pair of searchlights beaming upwards into the sky. This signifies her talent and occupation as an Entertainer.

Flaire caters to high society soirées as both a DJ and singer. Despite how the most popular DJs in Equestria tend to be Unicorns, Flaire is remarkably dextrous with her hooves, and manages just fine with her musical equipment. Dance music is her personal favorite, so her specialty is dance parties. She's very versatile however, and has been known to host fashion shows, art gallery events, even jazz parties--she particularly likes to be the singing "mare in the red dress" lounging on a piano. She's also a great dancer, which comes in handy when a stylish mare as herself wants to make a splashy entrance.

Personality: Flaire thrives on attention, and can't get enough of the limelight. This occasionally leads to problems when she is _not_ the center of attention, at times leading her to go to great lengths to steal the spotlight... sometimes obtaining the wrong kind of attention in the process. While she tries to avoid being gaudy and garish (her preference for understated attire reflects this), she has been known to break this rule of hers in a desperate plea for attention.

Flaire has sometimes been called "snobbish," which her thick French-like accent does nothing to help abate. This is a distinction she actively tries to avoid, and she acknowledges her elitist attitude as a personal flaw. This is usually noticed only by ponies intimately familiar with her, as she manages to hide it from most. She is generally very amiable, and with her charm, can easily make friends with just about anypony.

Though she refuses to acknowledge it, she is publicly recognized as being bipolar. Still, most do not dislike her for this. Indeed, it does lead to many a hilarious incident. This is particularly evident when she encounters anything that would "sully her image." For example, she is intensely afraid to get dirty--even Rarity would find her snobbish in this regard. When in another situation, for whatever reason, she is forced to endure something she dislikes (for instance, eating a dish prepared for her), she will try to hide her dislike for it... and will always fail miserably. Fortunately for her, most ponies find her antics more amusing than offensive.

Some say it is easy to befriend Flaire, but it is difficult to be close to her. Flaire is also deeply afraid of anyone thinking badly of her. This is one of the reasons most ponies are not offended by her actions, as the disadvantages of her unique disposition are painfully obvious. She can deal with one or two ponies not liking her, provided she has enough friends and admirers around to offset it. However, should she end up in a crowd she does not fit into, or a place where she cannot befriend anyone, her mental state can easily slip into a severely crippled state in which only a very close friend can rescue her from.

      Backstory: Cutie Mark Story:

Flaire's cutie mark story started when she was a filly in school. One day, she spotted a flyer announcing the annual school dance. Instead of her thoughts going to where she would find a date, she was drawn to the unassuming, small print that called for volunteers to help. Flaire was elated to discover there was an opening for master of ceremonies.

By the time the day came for the dance party, she had somehow become the overseer for most of the entertainment. The other ponies were wowed by her singing prowess, and she thrived on the attention. While there were other ponies performing that evening, Flaire completely stole the show by performing the grand finale. As the spotlights dimmed to signal the end of the show, Flaire began to glow. Suddenly two beams of light emanated from her body, and swired throughout the auditorium. After a few seconds, the beams joined, aiming straight up toward the sky. There was a flash of blinding light, and once it finally dissipated, a cutie mark depicting a pair of "Hollywood" searchlights rested on her flank.

As the crowd cheered, Flaire was brought to tears of joy as she realized what had happened. Thus began her career as an entertainer, during which she would wow audiences with her love for the limelight.

Flaire's History:

Born "Violetta Rose" in Roam, Itaily, to Earth Pony Mr. Rose, a gemstone miner, and Unicorn Mrs. Rose, a mare who could only be described as a "dreamer." Violetta was blessed with a great early start in life, due to her father's exceptionally hard work. He wanted nothing more than the best for his one and only child, so he sent her to a prestigious school to learn business, so she could become even more successful than he was.

His work schedule was seemingly endless, seeing as someone of his position was rarely able to afford such luxuries. Eventually, his tendency to overwork himself brought him to his knees. Though he could no longer work, his employers were good to him, and made sure he could still provide for his wife and daughter. However, he could no longer afford to send Violetta to such an expensive school.

The family moved to a small town on the outskirts of Hoofenheim, where Violetta would attend a more humble school of general education. Violetta was fortunate enough not to be bullied, though coming from Itaily, she was seen as very different. She would often be asked why she spoke in an accent, or why her coat markings did not match those of most German foals and fillies. This troubled her, as she only wanted to be the same as everypony else.

Violetta's mother played a very important role at this point in her life, as she always told the young filly that being different was not a bad thing, but a good thing that made the world a more interesting place. She always said that following one's dreams and talents would lead to happiness. Though Violetta had no idea where her talents lay, this encouragement would grant her enough courage to host and perform at the school dance, one year. This led to her making many friends, and more importantly discover her talent for entertaining others, earning Violetta her long-awaited cutie mark.

Soon after she graduated from school, Violetta's parents finally saw her off as she traveled to Manehatten. There, she would slowly, but surely make herself known among the artsy elite. Others eventually started referring to her as "Flaire," due to her chic and unique style. It was a name she would eventually take for herself as a stage name, which she uses to this day.
