• Taric

    Lighting Star

    • Age: 24

      Gender: Male

      Species: Non-Pony

Cutie Mark: Zebra's don't have cutie marks like ponies do. Instead they have a spiritual mark adorning their flank. This mark will describe the Zebra's personality and life.

Taric's spiritual mark is the mark of the night sky. Growing up in a cold and unforgiving world that seems to be against caused Taric to feel as if he was alone in a void of darkness. Something that Princess Luna could deeply emphasize with. Thus, the night sky gave Taric its blessing that it would always be on his side.

Personality: Taric absolutely despises ponies. Mostly he will disregard even the mere presence of a pony. And when forced to, he speaks to them as if he were breathing acid as well as take every opportunity he can to insult them. If he witnessed a pony fall and break their leg he would spit on them and walk away.

Around non-pony races such as Gryphons and Minotaurs however, Taric is much more sociable and even to some degrees friendly. He enjoys playing card and dice games as well as relaxing in the shade.

Years of growing up having to steal to survive have caused Taric to have a strong dislike of paying for anything, especially if a pony is selling it. If possible, Taric will steal anything that catches his eye.

Backstory: Life in Equestria is perfect. Everypony is kind to one another, there's always plenty of fun things to do, and always another friend to meet just around the corner. There isn't anything else a pony could ask for. Life is perfect...if you're a pony.

If you're not a pony, things a quite different depending on where you are. You could either feel no difference at all or be treated like complete dirt. And unfortunately in Taric and his family's case it was the latter.

Taric grew up in a rather xenophobic time in Phillydelphia. And since he and his family were Zebras, they had the worst possible life. Nopony wanted to hire a Zebra to work so rarely did Taric's family have any money. This meant that they couldn't afford any food, water, supplies, or even heating in the winter.

It didn't take Taric long to see the difference between ponies and zebras. To see the poverty gap between the two species. To see how ponies take everything for themselves and give nothing to the zebras. Not even a chance to make something of themselves. His parents urged him not to blame ponies, but that's just what he did. Hate is a rather strong word, but it wasn't strong enough to describe Taric's feelings towards ponies.

One day in the winter a young Taric was walking through the streets something caught Taric's eye: a mother pony hanging a bright blue blanket out on a clothes line to dry. Taric looked at the blanket with envy. He had nothing to keep him warm during the nights but his parents huddling against him. He was worried they would all freeze to death without something like that blanket. Then the idea dawned on him: why not take it? It was right there, nopony was looking. Ponies had already taken so much from him, so why not take something from them? And that's just what he did.

Taric's parents didn't ask a single question of where he got the blanket from. They only appropriated the warmth it brought them during the winter. Even though it is old and faded, Taric still keeps the blanket, as a memory of when he started to take back the world that the ponies had taken from him. For this blanket was not the last thing he stole from ponies. Taric began to steal everything he could, with very high success rates. Soon Taric's family, who before were lucky to have found a single slice of pizza in a garbage can to eat, were eating fresh fruits, vegetables, and even cheeses daily. Taric's goal was set: He was going to steal the world from the ponies, just like they had done to him.
