  1. So now you’ve finished writing a chapter or a story. You’re tired, fried, you want to rest and let your mind wander. If you’re a hobbyist, you’re tempted to just upload what you made and be done with it. What about editing? Editing is a mostly lost art nowadays. Most people just assume their work is fine and they would have caught any errors while writing. I speak from experience when I say unedited material may seem okay from memory, but you can have a whole different animal in execution. I have re-read things I’ve written that I figured were close enough, only to gawk at the errors I’d made and wonder what in God’s name was wrong with me. I still wonder what is wrong with me, but I also edit now. So how do you edit? What are you looking for? How long does it take? What are your options? There are two main ways to edit a story: You can self-edit or you can get someone else to do it. If you get someone else to do it, you should still be self-editing as well. The other guy is there to give you a hand and help filter out mistakes you made. He/she is not there to rewrite your entire piece for you. So either way you have to read your own work. If you’re not willing to read your own work, then nobody else will be either. You should read your writing a minimum of 3 times: Once for its own sake so you can get the feel of what story points you covered. Twice to locate glaring mistakes. Three times to pick up the stragglers. I like to do my first read while I am writing what I am writing. This helps prevent plot holes and acquaints you with what you have left to talk about. If you’re really obsessive, you can take notes on your own work and what kinds of errors you found. Your goal is to eliminate as many errors before you send/publish as you can. Don’t just assume the editor (if you have one) will make everything better. You do NOT want to piss off an editor.
  2. This may not be relevant to you, but I can't be the only one. Turns out, I edit posts a lot before I actually leave it be. It's mostly not because of mistakes, but just adding things on. I guess looking at my post after putting it up there makes me realize things I could have done better or things I could have taken out. Because, you know, I care about what random people online think about me. So, tell me, how much do you edit your posts before they are complete? Answer in the poll and, if need be, elaborate with a reply.
  3. I only just learned how to make composite vids with green screen footage in the video editing software I use, and it's surprisingly easy. I've only done the following two so far, and I should probably stop myself before things get out of hand.
  4. If somepony subscribes to a thread that you post in, does s/he get a new notification every time you edit your post? Or does s/he only get notified if you make a new post? Thanks. Edited for testing.
  5. I'm currently writing a fimfic that is 4 chapters long and I've just completed the first chapter. I don't want to reveal anything about it on the board just yet. But I would like to help edit the fic and have any suggestions as to what I should change about it. If you would like to help me, please PM me and I will send you a copy of the fic. It is a docx file so you may need a word processor that can read a docx file. You can post any constructive criticism here on the board without revealing anything. Thanks. I'd appreciate the help.

  7. Hello! We need a wide range of Creative Bronies for a project. The project is called 'Fear and Loathing in Equestria'. It will be a full length pony SFM film. We are currently looking for a large range of volunteers. This includes Voice Actors, Script Writers, Audio Editors, 2D animators, Editors, and Musicians. We need quite a few Voice Actors for Extras and Background Ponies. We also need musicians who can play and arrange film scores and rock. Please ask any questions you have. -Sincerely, The Management
  8. Hey, so I have a youtube channel that I currently know how to do basic editing for but I'm looking to learn either how to edit better than I have done so far and/or someone to edit for me. If anyone can help, please leave a comment or pm me, thanks!!
  9. So, I'm trying to practice editing on Adobe Premiere, and this happened: How do I fix it?
  10. Hello everybody! I'm starting a new audio series on my channel called "Technically Reel Life". A mini series, 5-10 minutes per episode, about my ponysona Tech Reel moving to Ponyville. Before you say anything..Yes I know, it's not the most original idea, but I still think it'll be fun and I can put my own twists on it. In fact, as the series progresses, I plan for the story to take quite a turn..but let's focus on what's needed right now. First off, I need an editor. Specifically a sound effect/music editor. While I'm able to assemble all the dialogue, I'm not familiar with how to work with sound effects or fit music to a scene. That will be your mission(if you choose to accept it), applying the appropriate sound effects to match the script as well as fitting background music for each scene. I have yet to decide what the scheduling is for this series. All I know is it will either be weekly or bi-monthly. I just thought I'd mention this so you can get some sort of idea about how often I'll need you to edit, so it won't be a problem later. I'm looking for a style that is similar to audio series' like "Doctor Whooves and Assitant". If you'd like to help out and be the editor for this series, comment below with an examle of what you can do or have done. --- Quick note, none of this is paid work. This is for people who wish to volunteer their time and talent. Though you will of course get credit for your contribution. Moving on to the voice actors/actresses. --- I will eventually need the Mane Six, as well as other various characters..BUT for now with this first episode, I only need Twilight, so that's who I will focus on finding right now If you are interested in being the Twilight Sparkle of this series, leave a comment with your best Twi voice. Here are some lines from the first episode you can audition with: --- "Hi, you must be the newest resident here." "You have nothing to worry about. Ponyville is very welcoming for newcomers, even really awkward ones." "Well your new house is all ready for you to move in. There's some basic furniture that you can replace as desired, and plenty of space fo decoration." *excited* "Great! I better tell Pinkie! She'll bring out the cannon..oh hopefully you don't get caked like the last new pony, well donkey..*trots away*" --- So that's it for now! Hope to hear from you editors and va's soon!
  11. So I used to edit Call of Duty clips back when I had a laptop and I can't wait to get a new laptop to continue because I've got a lot of higher quality edits I'll be uploading to my other channel. But this is my favourite that I uploaded to my old channel, I'm self taught so I think I'm decent.
  12. Hello everybody! I'm Tech Reel, I'm making a live action Christmas special, and I need someone for a few special effects. One thing to note is that this is more of a doctor who related thing, so I hope there's as many whovians around here as I think there are. What I need is someone who can do a good doctor who regeneration effect, including glowing hands, breathing regeneration energy, and of course the full regeneration. This is unpaid work, but you will be credited in the final video. If you'd like to help out, then leave a comment or pm me with an example of the effect I need this special done by Christmas, so I hope to hear from you soon

  14. What would you recommend to someone who's looking for some cheap simple video editing software that can still produce a nice finished product. I'm looking to get into making youtube videos, and though they will be more informational and not need any fancy effects and whatnot, I of course still need some means of editing. Thanks in advance
  15. MUGEN is a video game fighting engine based on Street Fighter where people make and download custom characters. There's even a few sprites from the canceled Fighting is Magic game. I have all the Mane Six on my roster, but some are more glitchy than others.
  16. Hello all, Batbrony here with some exciting news! After months of hard work, I have finally completed a massive editing job on the first six chapters of my first and (to date) only fanfiction, Batmare Begins. It's considerably shorter now by a few thousand words, and has been stripped of much troublesome junk, such as needless details, pointless adverbs, and worst of all, LUS (Lavender Unicorn Syndrome, i.e. the tendency to describe characters as, for example, "the lavender unicorn", "the grey filly", etc.). Besides these chapters being considerably more polished now than they were before, this news also means that I will now be able to resume writing new chapters for my fic! I have some great ideas for Chapter 7, and hope to have it typed up and posted reasonably soon. To anyone who's already following my story, I want to thank you for your patience; to those of you who have yet to check it out, I'd very much appreciate the support, and now would certainly be a good time to start reading it seeing as new chapter updates should start coming in more frequently in the near future. That's all for now everypony; you can find the revised story right here on FimFiction! Just click on the link below: Batmare Begins Revised: http://www.fimfiction.net/story/79481/batmare-begins

  18. So my spelling and grammar are horrible. It has always been a problem even more so sense I'm a writer. Recently I have been writing my own Original Story in the MLP universe not revolving around anything in the show other than the once named Las Pegasus. Im looking for someone who can read over parts of it and edit my bad spelling and grammar. I just finished the first excerpt and my spell check doesn't seem to pick it up so I went threw and fixed what I noticed but IM sure I missed things. Now I know a few people on here have offered some help but I wanted to make a formal request. This is a bit of a long term project i've started working on. So I'm looking for someone who is cool with me sending them little excerpts from the story and editing it and giving me constructive feed back on the story. Im looking for someone to keep it Professional I.E no heavy swearing/ No attacking my work, and someone who can keep it fun (because that's why I'm doing this, for fun and id like to keep it that way). Im willing to share my skype or steam both of which I'm on almost 24/7 thanks to my phone. Thank you in advance to anypony who offers to help.
  19. Hey, y'all! So I am presently in college, majoring in Writing, Rhetoric, and Technical Communication, and I think it would be neat to be a freelance editor down the road. It'd be good for me to get some experience with editing, though, so as I can have work to present to potential clients, and just for the sake of experience itself. In short, do you have something you need edited? A story? A letter? An article? A blog post? Pretty much anything, I'll at least take a crack at it. My experience has mainly been in copyediting (sentence-level mistakes like spelling and grammar), but I'm also pretty decent at rewording what's already been written to read better and flow more smoothly. So, drop me a comment or a PM if you have a request! All free at this point. I'm just doing it for the experience, and because it's something I enjoy.
  20. Hello everybody! I'm looking for someone that can edit an audio play series I'll be starting soon. The series is called Prisoners of Equestria. It's about two humans who are tricked into being test subjects for a multidimensional experiment, resulting in them being trapped in Equestria. An idea like this will require a lot of editing and sound effects. The job entails editing down a recording session into an episode, including sound effects to help everything flow. Of course you will be credited in each episode for your work. If you would like to do this, leave a comment with an example of your work.
  21. I just started a series MLP analysis and reviews on my youtube channel. I used the only program I had at my disposal, Windows Live Movie Maker, and the whole process seemed very sloppy and time consuming, plus I had to start over a few times because sometimes the program just stopped responding. Can anyone recommend a better editing program for me to use?
  22. What is up, everybody? This is TheLuigiLightning, but on this forum, you can call me Pinkie Pie Guy. For those who don't know, I have a let's play channel. I made an intro for my videos a long time ago, but felt now that it kind of sucks. So... I made it better! Added more ummph to it! And just jazzed it up. And now I think it's 10 times better! But you can decide for yourself. Original Intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om8hcRso3p4 New Intro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2VjSIhJS9M
  23. I don't know if this is the right section to be posting in, so let me know otherwise. Anyways, I've been figuring out making my mashups isn't just overlaying an acapella on an instrumental. Like figuring out the BPM, the key, extensions, etc. So I'm just asking from anybody who knows a lot about editing audio, if I could get maybe a few tips and such. Really appreciate it!
  24. PRE-READERS/PROOF READERS REQUEST Greetings everypony, Silver Quill here! I need someone who is willing to read over and/or proof read a fanfiction work that I'm writing (my first MLP fan fiction ). I'm doing it chapter by chapter whenever I have time (which, with work and school, is not very often, but I'm making slow and steady progress by writing whenever I have a few minutes [including between classes, in the evenings after homework, in the mornings while waiting for classes to start, and even occasionally in the rest room when doing my business XD]). Chapter one is now finished and while I work on the second and subsequent chapters, I would love someone who isn't me to read over what I have written and provide some constructive, critical feedback! I need someone who can easily spot grammatical mistakes, has a feel for flow and consistency, and doesn't mind a mesh of British and American writing styles (I'm somewhat culturally challenged), or who is just a patient reader and can give me advice on how to appeal to more readers as a whole! Please send me a PM or reply to this topic if you are willing to help, or even better, e-mail me!!!!! P.S. Also, it would help if you have, at some point, read A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket.
  25. I'm sick ATM So i'm wasting all of my energy into this topic.. *Sigh* Anyways, i've been having this problem for man days. Sometimes i can't even quote people anymore or edit. The big prob is, everytime i try to edit in chapter 7 into my fanfiction, It keeps on saying. Error: 505 Bad gateway. Does anyone know how to fix this?
