  1. As we draw closer and closer to the end of the 2010s and the beginning of the 2020s, I thought it would be a neat idea to look back and list out favorite movies of each perspective year.
  2. Describe or pitch your favorite tv shows so poorly, that we have to guess what it is. Can be animated or live-action.
  3. Most of watch movies/tv and read books/comics for the sake of fun or enjoyment. But is there any form of media that you could consider meaningful? As in, something that has a profound message and/or has deep personal value to you?
  4. I know, I know, the title is a bit weird; but think about it: death scenes are supposed to play a huge role in the story, by motivating the remaining characters one way or the other, or just to make us cry, really. So, what's your favorite deaths in fiction? By that you can answer either by the death itself (how violent, unexpected, or poetic), or the aftermath (like the characters' reactions to that event, that sort of thing). One of my latest favorite ones has to be I'm curious to know about your favorite death scenes in fiction guys. EDIT: As said by @Bakugou Is My Man ❤ , just don't post gory stuff, alright?
  5. Since there's already a thread for movies, here's one for animation. What are you looking forward to this year in the realm of animation? Personally I'm looking forward to Long Lost Gulch, Hazbin Hotel, Infinity Train and Toy Story 4, though I'm holding out hope for JG Quintel's Close Enough to maybe start airing this year, but I don't think that's going to happen...
  6. With Star Trek: Discovery getting to the halfway mark of its first season and me being about half a season of Voyager away from ending my recent binge of the whole series (upon creating this thread), I decided it was time to poll the community on the subject of Starfleet captains. Who is your favorite Starfleet Caprain? Who is your least favorite Starfleet Captain? I know who's probably going to be answered the most in both questions, but I just felt like asking. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ My Answers: My favorite is Jean-Luc Picard. A very philosophical captain that rarely did anything that really offended or really could offend, he's exactly what I'd want in a captain. One that listens to the concerns of his crew and addresses them, even always giving the respect of saying "your objection is noted" when his actions are questioned by senior officers even under the most trying of circumstances. Plus, he was portrayed as a captain who had his own way of commanding his ship, and his own personality that is as deep as it is well-defined. My least favorite is Kathryn Janeway. She is easily the worst captain for reasons I've [posted about multiple times before. She's an egotistical hypocrite with a contorted sense of morality that always sems to fit her actions, no matter how unjustified. She treats her crew in a way I find downright disrespectful (she's especially bad about it towards Chakotay and Seven of Nine), and she's a downright moron. It doesn't really help her case that SHE is the ONLY REASON Voyager got stranded in the Delta Quadrant in the FIRST PLACE... Also, the way I'd probably rank them: 1. Jean Luc Picard --------------------- 2. James T. Kirk 3. Johnathan Archer --------------------- 4. Benjamin Sisko 5. Kathryn Janeway
  7. So, anyway, I watch The Muppet Show on TV, along with many other television programs and I am wondering if anybody here watches it. If you like it, thank you for your response. Thank you anyway, even if you don't like it. If you don't know what it is, you can Google it, you can find info about anything online. Me watching The Muppet Show...
  8. If you're like me and are a huge Avatar: The Last Airbender fan, then you most likely heard that a live action series is coming soon to Netflix. I'm pretty excited and hyped. The movie version that came out a few years back is (unfortunately) still seared in my head, so I am really looking forward for this new show... What are your thoughts?
  9. It happens all the time with major franchises. Look at the Sonic the Hedgehog series for an example. The series used to be make a lot of good games in the past, but now it is rare to see a good Sonic game nowadays. The Powerpuff Girls is another example, since everyone loved the first 4 seasons of the show, but a lot people hated season 5 and 6. The Star Wars movies is also another example, since everyone loves the original trilogy, but about half of the fans hate the prequel trilogy and most of the fans hate the sequel trilogy. While I do love the Kingdom Hearts series, I have a feeling that after Kingdom Hearts III, the series is going to start going downhill.
  10. Hello everybody! How are you? It's my second thread here \o/ I just wanted to come out with a cool discussion, without any hate! I'm Marvel fan since i could understand the movies (they came out when i was 5, can you imagine a 5 year old trying to understand why the same old man appears in every movie? stan lee you slipery hoe Anyways, let me answer my only question duh My favourite MCU character is Loki, because since i was a child i always identify as him. There was a time on my life that i was suffering from bullying (around 8 and such), and it was when i discovered Thor 1. I felt a connection right away, with the guy that just wanted to be reconized and loved. Gladly, i don't suffer anymore, but i still love him. I know he may not be the strongest, or the coolest, but i don't really care, it's more like a personal thing I will be happy to know your opinion!
  11. So do we have any godzilla/kaiju fans here? for those who don't know what kaiju means it means giant (japanese) monster.
  12. I already know there are various active threads about anime, top 10 anime and so and so forth. But this is different. I know this forum contains a small section of the bronies but nonetheless I would still like this information. The question is simple. Do you watch anime? Answer the poll and post in the thread. If you like anime tell me what got you into anime in the first place, if you don't, post a nice (keyword nice) response as to why you do not like anime.
  13. Inspired by a tread on Loud House Wiki here. http://theloudhouse.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:152000 So now while all our favorite shows do get bad episodes and we hate most of everything about them right? Well there can be times when our least favorite episodes do have a good moment in them. So what moments do you like that are from your least favorite episodes of shows that you do actually like? Put your comment here and share your opinion. Also you can include a moment from your least favorite MLP episode here as well too.
  14. I know less people bother watching commercials nowadays, but for those that do, does it bother you that it seems like less focus is on the actual product? For example, Weinerschnitzel has a commercial with metrosexual guys on stage and faking German accents, in a weird pop star promo, and their hot dog mascot at the end. This takes up the majority of the commercial, while the image of their food is at the tail end, for a lesser amount of time. No bragging about the quality of their ingredients, or close up shots of their toppings and garnishes. Just...repeating the brand name in an unrelated way and dancing with the brand mascot For a good chunk of the commercial time. Does advertising like this bother anyone else?
  15. Character counter go home -- you are drunk I had no idea what to title this. Ok, that works. Just some thoughts I had about something. Ever since I was a teen (and likely before) through to today, entertainment media and critics tended to repackage the same joke/critique -- it took a flavor that basically went like this, 'That there is nothing new in Hollywood'. Sound familiar? Remakes, reboots, sequels, you name it. Article after article film aficionado's claimed that the state of Hollywood remaking classics was a harbinger of its own death. Hyperbole and histrionics about the lack of any new 'artisty' were as plentiful as the tepid reviews. They aren't wrong that success breeds repetition, and I am not going to dispute that I mean, how many comic book films do we have today? They are still popular (and on the whole fun and enjoyable). Some re-imagined films had some merit to them. However, a few films that came out in the late 90's and early 00's did something that that drew the ire of many critics and fans of the original. Lucas became a long process of retooling his original Star Wars Trilogy to better match his vision. Some were cosmetic changes, others were character altering pieces. Around this time was Gus Van Sant's recreation of Psycho. For those that don't know, it was an attempt at recreating the Hitchcock classic -- shot for shot. This wasn't the Mummy, or Skull Island -- new tonally different takes on earlier versions. This was a direct reproduction with modern equipment. It was reviled. People (rightfully) questioned the purpose of a nearly identical remake. They claimed that some of the old school touches helped make the film a classic. It currently sits with a 37% on Rotten Tomatoes. I never questioned the critics on the backlash. I saw the movie itself and honestly agreed it seemed superfluous. I moved on with my life as even the worst film has never done me a personal injustice. However it popped into my head earlier today, because a very unlikely and unrelated thread discussing graphics in gaming. I found myself asking if the criticism's of updating old films like Star Wars or complete copy-pastes like Psycho are mostly about not wanting to touch something precious from the past that should remain unchanged. Is there a valid reason to update a film? Then I thought of one classic that made me pause, unsure for a moment. The original Pixar film Toy Story. First, let me get out the horror I feel from the fact that I am calling Toy Story a classic. That should be criminal -- I am not that old yet! Anyway, mid life crisis averted for now ... Toy Story. I watched this recently. It's story and humor are still worth while and hold up well. The animation, while vaguely nostalgic, is dated. There are scenes that look ... bad. Of course this was insane back when it came out. It blew all of our minds when we first laid eyes on Woody and his plastic and cloth cohorts. But, the animation is old. So I wondered, what if tomorrow Disney announced plans to redo Toy Story visually. By that I mean, only update only the visuals, the renders, the textures ... and leave all the story elements and alone. The same sound we be reused. No 'special edition' scenes. Basically Toy Story would look on par or better than Toy Story 3 and later animation. What side of the fence would you be on. Would you be upset that they messed with a classic? Would you be all for the updated visuals? If you were against it, would you take a page from Star Wars fans and grin and bear it hoping that they at least preserve the original older animation? Does the fact that the medium is CGI make it any different in a sentimental way than ... say ... Casablanca, Ghostbusters, or any other treasured film from your past? I will tell you that I am honestly uncertain there is a difference between making adjustments to Toy Story and what Lucas did with Star Wars. I would expect the same outcry, yet I can see the appeal with a refresh that I didn't with Star Wars. Basically, this is one I am uncertain of my own opinion -- and in the process I am actually reevaluating my own views on how I approach the Special Editions of the Holy Trilogy. Purists have a point (some actually like the artifact of film), yet you know that if they pulled it off many would actually appreciate it. TL;DR So where would you stand on updating visuals in older films? Leave the films be, or 2.0 them?
  16. I'm talking about the Brittany Miller from the 1980s "Alvin and the Chipmunks" cartoon. Both these characters are very similar to each other in terms of personality, and here's the similarities that they have to each other: Both characters like fashion and jewelries Both characters are stuck up snobs Both characters hate getting dirty Both characters are girly girls Both characters care a lot about their self image Both characters are arrogant when it comes to their looks Both characters are drama queens Both characters get jealous very easily Rarity and Brittany Miller are not the only characters that I made a comparison to from the "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic" series and the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" series. visit the link below to see the other characters from those series that I made a comparison to. I personally like Rarity more than Brittany Miller for many reasons.
